I'm actually smack dab in the middle of a season of establishing and finding rest in my identity in God. This is a great word. Very encouraging.

I Think this passage shows that Naomi also didn't deny her grief or put up a mask she was real about it and now i'm asking myself how often do we put up a mask with people about our situations?

Bronwin Swart many always do it rather than cause strife but are determined to continue in their habits or addiction. I love her dearly but God has refused me to leave her in her time that she need and asks for my help. No need for me to ask Him. HE tells me secretly. Telepathically

You just spoke right into my heart. Thanks so much for the videos. They are so awesome! And it is so great you take the time to do this bible studies in RUclips. Some of us can't make it to a live bible study because our work schedule changes constantly, every week, so this helps a lot! Thanks again for doing this.

What you said really hit home for me. I am in a very troublesome time in my life. I am bitter and defining everything based on this ONE incident. Everyone else agrees with you but my head and heart do not want to. I hope you have something else for me next week that will help me to clear this pain out of my heart.

Amazing word Jon 💕♥️ keep on doing what God has called you. You have encouraged me in my current situation. I am working as a nurse here in Uae and sometimes I just want to leave everything and just live simply or get by with my mother and sister back in PHilippines. All I ever want is just to be with my sister and mother and live a simple life. But I also believe that God has called me to serve the sick and the elderly and in Gods perfect time I will be with them again. Thanks God for the technology skype

Thank you. Spot on! I have a loud know it all, non Christian friend. This friend is aggressive. & unpleasant to be around, except for very short periods of time. Several years ago, I felt God was leading me to be a better friend to her, spend more time with her. I looked up to Heaven, & said: Really God?? Really?? How am I going to do this? But I started in, calling & getting together. I got snotty criticizism, and "Expert" advice about everything. I finally had to shut it down for a while. Slowly waded back into those shark infested waters, & tried again. But honestly, not trying very hard. Your words have helped me to see that I must keep trying. God doesn't give up on me.

Ruth! Yesss! Something I need to cling onto is storing my treasures up in heaven, to live with heavenly values. Becuase lately all Christians want to talk about is the demonic, rather than focusing on God and the authority He has given us through Jesus. And all of that will bring God's blessings at harvest time... can't wait until next week. The ending of Ruth is my favorite!

I always found it very difficult to make myself read the bible even though I want to know more about god and the disciples, Jon thank you! You're truly using god's gifts to multiply and to glorify them. Through this series I'm better understanding the bible and gaining new found knowledge in the biblical stories. So thank you so so much! Love from Singapore :)

I feel I need to cling to my family. though it's terribly broken, I feel this deep gnawing in my soul to cling to it. Though it feels like nothing will ever change, and it feels like a hopeless situation; I shall cling. And I pray that GOD will show me the truth, The life and the way for me.

I'm currently studying this book with some other girls! It's been interesting to read up the cultural background and original Greek words used, including when Ruth "clings" to Naomi. The original Greek work used there is the same one used for marriage between Adam and Eve in genesis.
ALSO-what do you think in regards to how Naomi and Elimelech leaving their home town to escape God's punishment of the famine (since it was a time where each "one did what was right in their own eyes"-including Noami and her husband) by escaping to Moab, which was known as a godless city. I know that in reading this Old Testament book it is often viewed as God punishing Noami with Elimelech's death because they were trying to escape his punishment on the Israelites as well as a continued wrath of "God's hand against" Naomi when after marrying her sons off to Moab women (godless women) they too then died. And she only decided to return to her home town when she heard the famine was over.

It really changed my view of Naomi when I looked up more into the context of what was being said. Not that we can point fingers at her-if anything (like you did) we can relate to her and her sinfulness. while aspiring Ruth, who was NOT one of God's "children" (an Israelite) but by her covenant to Naomi she also covenants herself to God and we see the glorious love of God when He fulfills Naomi's original request for His hand to be over them in vs. 9 (which-seeing that neither Orpah or Ruth were Israelites this was a HUGE favor/prayer for Naomi to ask of God!) and we see God's fulfillment of that throughout the rest of Ruth as Ruth also fulfills her promise to Naomi and God.

reading this made me think of the family tree that brought about the birth of Jesus. All the men and women were considered in my opinion to be outcasts and imperfect people. It shows me that God can use whomever He intends to use and it doesn't matter how many times you've felt or how many stupid mistakes you've made, His grace and love can change a person completely. King David and myself come to mind as I type :)
Thank you for sharing this Christina :)

Question for Jon: could it be possible that Ruth clung to Naomi because she felt she need Naomi to help herself grieve her own husbands loss or something of that nature and she wasn't completely thinking of Naomi? Was it just her way of coping?
