    So glad to see you making tutorials again. I have yet to find any as good as yours!

    I wanted to point out that if you put an equal sign at the beginning of the part number field in the family table it will update your length after you trim or change the length of the shapes in any form. When you don’t put an equal sign as you did in the video it pulls the values from other columns in the table at that point in time and never updates this is why your BOM had all the shapes in one row because by default inventor groups by part number column and in this instance they were all the same.

      Wow! Didn't know that. Thanks @crisauces. That was quite a chuck of knowledge Cris. My body came to a stand still while all power had been diverted to the flux capacitor on my shoulder's... that was deep. Genius bro! I'm gunna try that myself just to see it happen.

      This is not the case for Inventor 2024, it may be the case previously. The reason the part number did not work was due to it not being a custom expression with a number range. E.g: [0.001;50000;;] there is no need for an equal sign.

    Its worth noting that you should only use "structural shapes" that are solid for frame generator. I added slotted strut to my content center and it doesn't work, unless the frame doesn't need any modifications beyond simply placing its members. Because of the inherent way frame generator works, most modifications will result in modeling errors.
    You can use solid strut and adjust the parameter mapping accordingly, but it would be nice if it would show slots at least for cosmetic effect.

    Hi Niel, great videos! I have followed along step by step with this tutorial and have added my custom profiles to frame generator, but when creating the drawing the parts list is giving me the combined length, but I do need the idividual cut lengths and quantities, please could you explain to me how to change this as I cannot for the life of me figure it out, I keep getting *varies* in the "base qty, unit qty and G_L* and the "item qty" is wrong too.

    Is it possible to just copy a family from say tube to Strucutral shapes? I have no idea why they would not include round tuing in structural shapes to use with Frame Generator.

  •  2 года назад +1

    I think you need the length in the part number to ensure that the part number becomes unique when you publish from content center? Otherwise your profile that is 50 mm long will have the same part number as the same profile being 60 mm long?

    • @peterlinsley4287
      @peterlinsley4287 2 года назад

      If you put your length in the part number and change the length in the part, it will not update the part number. You're better off having an individual part number for each frame.

    • @beno9966
      @beno9966 2 года назад

      @@peterlinsley4287 Then you should change the size with content center not by changing the actual part. All the standard structural shapes have length in the part number. You would only have unique part numbers if the lengths were set.

    Good video and thnks for posting, just arrived at the right time as I've been trying to create an Aluminium Alloy section content library and was doing my "napper". Came across a video where you specify the length using B_L, G_OFFSET_END, & G_OFFSET_START, is this still applicable or have thigs moved on?

      In the dialog box titled "Publish Guide" when you do the upload, there's a field called "Family Name" and "Family Description", those are what appear in the frame generator list when you use it. There's also a "Standard" field, which is populated in the same Publish Guide dialog

    I've gone through this process not less than a hundred times in the past. But I still learned some new tricks from this video, noice! Also, I thought I had to make the initial part an iPart in order to progress it to publishing level. Has my life been a lie? I've also struggled immensley trying to redefine a profile once published, could this be because I've never started a session in admin preveledges?

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  2 года назад +1

      Yep! I've been having a good play around with that over the last week and I'm amazed. I haven't figured out how to get it to reference the Inventor API though as it'll need that for specific API calls and reference in the libraries?

    • @paadillaa
      @paadillaa 2 года назад +2

      @@Neil3D I'm pretty sure inn the next future you will be able to give the model the api documentation and it will figure it out. This friend of mine who uses Catia got a pretty amazing result just by asking a simple visual basic script with visual interface to design a bolt according with ASME standards.
      You should upload your experimentation with GPT there is no other content related to CAD
