"A 2012 remake that nobody saw" I am sorry to say that I, who at the time was a 14 year old girl obsessed with Josh Hutcherson, saw it in theaters twice
Absolutely brilliant video. Not being from the US (and being in fact from a country that has often been the target of US abuse and imperialism) I often despair at how blind Americans are at the toxicity, violence, and destructiveness of their militarism Even in the wake of the racial justice protests and the conversations happening around police brutality and reform, I was disappointed to not really see that discussion spread to involve the military. Because as I see it, just as American police enforce white supremacy at home, the military do so abroad. And the entertainment industry absolutely plays a part in that desenzitation. Even in movies and shows I enjoy, like Marvel, you will often have American military men or agents blowing stuff up, beating people up, or shooting around all over the world, and I find myself asking "ok, but what the fuck are they doing there?" That question however almost never comes up in that show or movie, nor is it really a part of the discussions online, or part of the critiques.
Something else to consider: the Pentagon does give lots of money to studios whose movies portray the military in a positive light. And you're right; Hollywood is pretty complicit in this. They're not exactly turning that money away. The only two times I can recall when the Pentagon stopped giving funding was the original Independence Day (supposedly for mentions of Area 51) and The Avengers (the details of that remain secret to this day).
The US military's (current) purpose isn't about spreading ideals-that's also propaganda. It's about obtaining, and controlling cheap or rare foreign trade resources (like minerals or oil), and consumers (buyers of military, and luxury items) for private individuals/industries. By keeping regions unstable, you can pay off some corrupt people and plunder. Also since US taxpayers are the ones who fund the military, it's like these venture capitalists have the greatest mob in the world that will strong arm any dissension, and they don'thave to pay them, or associate with them directly.

I love your intelligent, quiet (although that blast of Stars and Stripes made me jump!) presentation style. Keep up the good work!

Loved it
we need to get you some nice drapery or even some cute colored blinds. Do you live near an IKEA?
Reintroduce the draft and suddenly military won't be so cool. When everyone serves it becomes a more mundane experience and looses the glamour.
I love u yup thank u for making videos
By the way I live how you lean into being a gay disaster.
Btw love your work sweetheart x
2 main problems 1 it’s not true, 2 it’s not true.
