Great video! I am totally in sync with you on recovery and PT following surgery, just do it! Those who don't pay the price. Congrats on such a great recovery.
I made this video in Hope of helping someone in need. I'm glad you found it and I'm glad you found my video and sound comfort in it. Thanks for sharing with me.
I had a knee scope, partial knee replacement and recently a revision total knee replacement. Walking had been hard for the last five years, but I have continued to ride my bicycle 8eight to twelve miles a day. I’m two months out on my revision and hope to resume my bicycling at six months. In the meantime I go to the gym for mild stationary biking and other mild exercises. My latest revision was way harder to rehab than my partial replacement. This time I had terrible pain that needed more than P.O. Celebrex and hydrocodone. I had urinary frequency/urgency, insomnia, loss of appetite and depression. I’m hoping to fully recover without PTSD. I see these people on videos that at one week, look like all they have is a cold. My biggest problem with my latest surgery was being discharged after 16 hours with inadequate pain management. I can’t wait till get back on my bicycle, stationary bikes can’t compare. 😂
Hi joel congratulations on your recovery video, great information about knee replacement, at my earliest 55 i fall from ladder in my work, an hit the floor with my right knee , my femur broke chunks of bone of my tibia, and was were my nightmare beginning’s, i live in florida and I’m cyclist enthusiast too , So went see your video i now for sure what are you talking about, In my case For many reasons my operation was at 3 days after in Oseola hospital, and after that 2 weeks in the same hospital, but they move my to PT in 7 floor of the hospital i have to learn how wash my self again, and deal with the impotence of depend from other people to do everything, after that they discharge from the hospital, and start in cora therapy 8 weeks for keeping PT , however my story was 2019 , today swimm, and I take out my clips and start riding road bike again, I didn’t mentioned they put me like titanium plate with 16 nails to help todo bone stick , so I have this metal in my body so sometimes my self experiment stiffness and swelling 2 years later , I decided to go to orthopedic doctor again and he said I have arthritis between femur and the tibia, I’m candidate for knee replacement, and take out all the titanium and put the replacement stuff, I don’t have any intention to go true to that nightmare again, so I continue doing my exercises, but I know for sure one day my knee replacement is coming, thanks for sharing your story and I appreciate your honesty and I wish you many blessings and good health to keep enjoying our favorite sports cycling 🚴🏻♂️
Just found your video. I am 5 months post op for my right knee. I used the same under desk pedal. The big problem I had was with swelling. What really helped was having my leg up on the back of the couch for a few hours at a time. And sleeping in my bed with my legs elevated. 6 weeks of physical therapy then I started water walking and stationary bike. My work has me walking from 1.8 to 2.5 miles a day. Right knee is pain free. Left knee is painful and have it scheduled in 5 months. But last week I did a 2.3 mile round trip hike with a 620 foot elevation change. First time I did a hike of more than a half mile in over 10 years. My take away is like yours, don’t wait. Get the swelling down as soon as possible. Do pre-hab if you can. I’m going into the next surgery in better condition than I was before the first one and I’m confident that it will be that much better. Not easier, just better.
Great job Joel You are giving us a pep talk for sure. I’m almost 5 weeks in tka and still having some issues but definitely way better than the beginning. You are exactly right about the 4 weeks and no sleep. I ordered the little pedal thing from Amazon but it got lost somewhere 😮.We are getting there . Thanks
Really good review and synchs with my own experience. I'm at week 3+. My wife bought me a vintage Cinelli for Christmas - which I have yet to unwrap - and I can't wait to ride it. Your advice is encouraging. Thanks. I can't believe you were pedaling even before your bandages were removed. Yikes! The short crank length on the little pedal machine help when you have minimal range of motion.
Thanks for sharing and great that you are back on the road! I had O.A.T.S. surgery 3 yrs ago and had 8 months of PT before I could get back on the bike. They told me, if it happens again, full replacement. This video has given me hope that it won't be as bad as I had pictured!!
@@joellikecatcher3480 i did! When I had my surgery they gave me a machine that flexed my knee up and down since I couldn't move it. It was different from total replacement because they drilled out the part of my kneecap that had worn down to bone and replaced it with a bone "plug" from a cadaver. So on top of the muscles having to rebuild, i had to wait for the bone to join together too! Fun stuff
Great video! It was "spot on" as far as knee replacement recovery. I had my right knee replaced Dec,2021. The first two weeks were unpleasant but got better after that. The "bone on bone" pain is totally gone. I am glad I went thru with the surgery. Currently waiting for a total ankle replacement on the same leg. That is going to be a much longer recovery period but it needs to be done. I can pedal and ride with minimal ankle pain. But walking is definitely very painful. I am anxious to get the ankle done so I can return to cycling on a regular schedule.
Love your video, I had 2 replaced on the same day and now at 6 months I've started cycling again and wow are they both feeling uncomfortable with a little clicking but with time I'm sure they will fell better.
❤ I had knee replacement on July 17 they sent me to the hospital and they wanted to send me home after surgery I went home and I went right back I was in extreme pain now is 11 days out and I'm still in a lot of pain is that how you felt because it feels so bad like burning the doctor told me that it's normal❤
Very informative video! I know knee and hip surgery are in my future. On another note, I would love to see how you video your rides. How is your camera setup during rides? I have a GoPro 9 and will be filming my rides in the future. Good riding!
Joel, I am getting ready to have my TKR in Nov. I have a recumbent bike in my porch. Will I be able to use that for my post surgery exercises instead of the little peddler you were using?
You should make a video how you Walk and how you ride a regular bike and how you up and Down stairs and how you bend and up posición , and thats the idea every one whants to know. do not show nothing if you have a reclinar bike or sit on a chair
I am 30 days post op TKR on right and i was hurting with you when you were peddling the under table unit....i could feel ur pain!
I feel your pain too. It gets better. I'm about 2 years post-op now and can speed walk 90 minutes 5-days a week!
Great video! I am totally in sync with you on recovery and PT following surgery, just do it! Those who don't pay the price. Congrats on such a great recovery.
Thank you for this down to earth video. I am 3 weeks out from TKR and this info and perspective is very helpful.
