    I’m 6 months after TKR. My doctors, Alvarez still wants me to have 0° extension. I tried hanging weights on my knee also hanging weight laying on my stomach hanging over the edge of the bed, which works to some extent. Also had months of PT. He sent me home with this device called knee Extensionater…. You pump it and it straightens your knee. I use it throughout the day and it’s working. I Actually enjoy using it. I’m Walking normal and I feel great.

    I had a TKR about 2 and a half years ago and straightening was a bigger challenge and more painful to work on than flexion. I am expecting that I'll be having my other knee replaced within the next year. It's not as bad as my first one was...limping, bone on bone, etc. I'll be coming to this channel often when that happens. I've read the knee book and am doing my darndest to put off having the second one done. I exercise regularly, including some of the knee rehab exercises that I did after my first TKR and they continue to be helpful. Thanks for putting all of this together...I love the focus.

    Thank you for explaining the issue. It is due to the tightness of the capsule, the tissue surrounding the knee, and/or hamstring tightness or muscle weakness. I have 140-145 flexion, but full extension has been difficult.

    Hi Dr. Rosen. I enjoyed your information reference straightening the leg after knee surgery. I have a question to ask after providing some background information.
    Background: I’m 43 days post total left knee replacement. I’m presently engaging in physical therapy and making some improvements. My knee bending is presently at 98 degrees (on my own) and 106 - 110 when the tech pushes). I’m 5 degrees from achieving total straightening, which has been the hardest. Two days ago, my Dr. added Hydrotherapy to my regimen, which I start tomorrow.
    Question: Is there a deadline for when someone should achieve the straightening of the leg after surgery? My Dr. has stated that there is a short window to get the leg straightened (an estimated 30-day window, which has passed for me). He, including several PT techs, says that someone can have a permanent limp if the straightening is not achieved within this short period.
    If possible, can you please add a short video addressing the period that straightening the leg must be achieved?
    Thanks, Robert (Columbia, SC)

    Hi Dr Adam, thank you so much for your video, I also got the similar 2 rehab practice to straightening me knee. I had the first session yesterday day (day 5 post-op) and been trying the both your exercise 3 sets today each, now in the evening I found my still swelling knee is very painful, am I doing to much or maybe too early? Btw my op was both ACL recon and bucket handle meniscus tear repair.thank you in advance!

    Could you comment on whether it is necessary to get beyond 0 extension? My opposite leg goes to 8 degrees hyperextension; the operated leg had 5 hyperextension prior to surgery. I had a partial lateral knee replacement 3 weeks ago and I wonder how far I should push my operated leg into hyperextension (if possible) or whether 0 is good enough.

    After total knee replacement I was able to work into a straight leg in short order, but when it came to flexion I had difficulty. I was able to work up to 130 degrees flexion with physical therapy quickly, but then ran into a brick wall. There are some basic yoga poses I am unable to do completely. My doctor said it will come eventually but it has been over a year. Can you comment on post knee replacement flexion? Thank you

    • @dradamrosen

      Best to talk to your surgeon or get a second opinion. The implant sizes are sized for each bone in each leg. The difference between sizes is usually only a couple millimeters. Many people have a one size difference from side to side.

    Im 4 weeks post op and have good bend but not straight, onceni start walking. Perfect when i wake up, but once walk, lots of swelling and discomfort right behind knee, even after only one short block. Then have to go home to elevate and ice. I found out I have a baker cyst. Does that affect straightening? Am I about normal at 4 weeks re swelling etc? Have been doing the first exercise you mentioned since day 2 but only 3-4 a day, and seems strange first thing am I'm straight. Any guidance?

    • @dradamrosen
      @dradamrosen  7 месяцев назад

      This is an old one on Baker's cyst -ruclips.net/video/kVLPyX2E3uw/видео.html - normal knee, arthritic knee, or replaced knee treatments are the same - elevation, compression (knee sleeves work well), nsaids (if no contraindication) and ice. When the knee is swollen (front or back) it can make range of motion difficult but should improve over time in most patients. Reach out to your surgeon to see what recommendations they have.
