You have been of a lot help to me especially that am not able to afford a PT. Am 3 weeks post op and doing quite well after watching your videos that l should push myself to a point of screaming. Am doing it slow but sure. I don't have those device to measure but I can extend my leg flat on my bed and bend past the 90% . I thank God for you Sir. I can only pay you by subscribing. Am in Africa.
Hi Tony Love all your tips. I am 11 weeks post op but can only get to 108. I tried this just once and was a bit over 110 so I am sure with more time it will get better. You are a great source of help for us TKR patients. Thanks again
Thank you so much Tony. All of a sudden, 17 days postop and I feel I’m starting to lose flexion. I come to your channel for help and inspiration and am never disappointed. Just tried this and it helps enormously. Pressure just in the right spot behind the knee - thank you so very much x
THank's again Tony, your like a teddy bear so much comforting word's of reassurance that we are getting their stronger & nice to hear from other's as well, Bless you
I couldn't get a wedge in our Australian country town area so I made a wedge to suit my body out of plywood and bought a piece of memory form for cushioning. Love using it to try and get better range of motion in my 8 week slow to bend left knee.
I just tried this and it was great! No pain at all doing both but I could feel it helping with extension and reflection. As you mentioned I am tired of the heal slides and all the other exercises, I am 8 weeks since surgery and seemed to have hit a Plateau. I will continue your method and hopefully I will increase range of motion. Thank you Tony!
Love your videos. They have really helped me recuperate with my total knee replacement. I've learned some new tips from you, especially on walking correctly. Thank you. You are great!
I am struggling with being able to bend my knee I can only get to 80 degrees 7 months after surgery couldn't do much due to the fact my femur was fractured by the tourniquet during the knee replacement it has been a nightmare seeing a different ortho soon hopefully get some help. do you have any suggestions I can try ...
Thanks again, Tony! Certain exercises (like heel slides) that are routinely recommended do get “old”. I learned the “wall slides” from you and now I can do something new with my wedge. 🎉🎉🎉 I think I have a Baker’s cyst like Sheila and if I learn anything about it from my 2-week post-MUA appointment next week, I’ll post it on the KIND support FB group.
Thanks you so much for your videos. They are immensely educative and useful. Can I use this technique for improving flexion after acl+ meniscus repair? I'm 8 weeks post op and I can only get to 90-95°. It's really frustrating. I work hard everyday and follow all the instructions, still I see no improvement.
I just ordered this wedge thank you for this video. I will at times place my hands behind my knee and let my leg hang to allow gravity to help. I don’t have great flexion on the left after my TKR. I think I was headed to a manipulation when COVID hit and couldn’t see my surgeon for close to a year post op. My RTKR is scheduled for this Friday July 2nd I’m hoping to do better this time around and your videos have been a great pre op watch! Thanks so much😀
@@totaltherapysolutions Yes, it is more comfortable than some of the other stretches. I am 9 weeks out of surgery. Flexion is at 126. So I am almost there.
Hi Tony I’m a 27 years old male who had a meniscus repair surgery of a bucket handle tear. I’m currently 6months post surgery. My Range of motion actively is around 115 degrees and passively 140.As for my extension My knee can fully extend, however I have trouble bending my knee because of post fibrosis and effusion. My meniscus has healed but my knee flexion isn’t where it should be by now . Do you have any analysis I can take on board?
Love your videos. I’m almost 7 mons post op TKR and it stills feels like there is a tourniquet behind my knee. It’s stopping me from getting more flexion bc I can’t go beyond that point. Would the wedge help with that and if not any suggestions that might help?
Hi I watch a lot of your videos on knee replacements. I’m from the uk. Had mine 10 weeks ago. I’m 54 yr old woman fit and healthy but my knee was long term sore from a ski accident when I was 19. My cruciate ligament snapped and I didn’t get it repaired, my knee went outwards slightly over the yrs. Iv been doing physio since the opp. Straight is good, but flextion is 90*. I do all the right exercises. Ice, elevation, massage too. I really am not keen on the idea of an MUA, surgeon says it’s up to me, there’s no guarantees. My question is after the 12 weeks is that really it? No more flex ion, or will I still get a little more over the this yr. the more physio I do the more it swells , the less I can then do, but they say more meds, more flexion keep pushing. I feel anxious as 12 weeks is coming up soon. I’m hoping I will get more flexion over time little by little, am I correct in thinking this or will it be too late. Your my favourite physio btw! Thankyou foR all your great advice.🌟🙏🦋
I am nearly 5 months and terrible flexion and extension ranges. I am doing everything possible. I work hard with exercises and more. I've been following you Tony, and have tried a lot of your suggestions. It's early morning and I have a heating pad on my knee to help with morning stiffness. I want to try this exercise with hanging my knee over the footboard of my bed with towels on the footboard. I would say my flexion is in the 70's
M 3 weeks post surgery and today with only 74 flexion. PT said im falling behind. 1st tkr 7 yrs ago and was at 100 at the same time frame. Confused and depressed
Hi Tony, I’m 21 days post op and I’m looking for that wedge but the link goes no where. Can you provide me a new link for a wedge, I’m 6’2” and I love your videos.
You always have to ask your surgeon or your physical therapist before trying any of these exercises. Sorry, if you were my patient I would know better what you were allowed to do.
Hi Tony, greet videos. May I ask your advice? 4 weeks out of a TKR and my leg is still 15% from straight. I do all the exercises and really push into extreme pain, but it won’t budge!! Everything else is perfect. What can be done?
I generally do not recommend pushing into pain. Discomfort is okay, but pain is unnecessary. Have you seen some of my extension videos. Do you do the one laying on your stomach and letting the foot hang off the end or side of a bed?
After 12 weeks post op, I hit 134 flexion today. But it is the extension that is worrisome to me. With a push from the therapist, I can only get down to about 4 degrees. I'm having my second TKR, in two weeks. I will buy the wedge and see if it helps with the next knee. You can sleep with the wedge and your knee extended? Is it comfortable? What size for 5 ft 10 inches, with 29 inch short inseam legs!?
It is almost universally recommended to sleep with the leg in extension and on the wedge. Some people love it, others cannot tolerate it. If you get one you will have to try it before surgery a couple times. You should be fine with any of the common sizes. I prefer something that allows your heel to hang off the end so maybe nothing 30-inches or longer.
@@totaltherapysolutions how about this one that you recommended in another video: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QNZCR4Y/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=A1U9HPXUHLRLGO&psc=1
Hi I think this would be very helpful to me. I clicked on the link and the wedge link is not available anymore. I am 5' 7" as well what size wedge would you suggest?
Those cysts are frustrating. I recently had a patient with one. The doc tried to drain it but there was no fluid in it. We try our best to compress it by pushing a thumb into it while also trying to flex the knee. I haven't found a good solutions for it.
What size wedge would work best for shorter people? I’m 5’2”, would like to continue to improve flexion from LTKR and would like to get one in anticipation of my RTKR in 2021. Thank you.
Why is it so painful behind my knee? It’s the soft skin behind your leg . Say I lay on my left side and do leg lifts . The muscles feels like it’s falling out when I lift and hold . Sounds crazy I know . 😌
Is there an updated link for the wedge? Thank you - I am 1 year post-op from bilateral TKR and have issues with range of motion. I wish I knew about this channel prior to surgery, but am glad I found it now!
I am 3 months out after TKR. Not being able to lift your leg is totally normal. One of many things they didn't tell me - feels like you have a 1,000 lb lead leg. The muscles, tendons, etc were all cut into and your brain is basically protecting the leg by making it useless in a sense. Took me over a week before I could lift my leg a few inches. After 6 weeks, it was totally normal again. Be patient and keep doing your exercises - you'll get there, I promise!
I would say based on research you can always make ROM gains. Even beyond 1 year. The body is incredibly adaptive. Think of someone who starts yoga for the first time. That person is so stiff, but they will adapt to the yoga poses with time. Your knee will continue to improve as long as you continue to work on it.
