Getting old sucks eh? I had about 5 ton of wood from an 100yr old Ash tree we had taken down, I wasn't looking forward to splitting it with the axe so we bought the little brother to that the FM5.Put it all together and after 5 mins threw that guard away like you said its flimsy and the first log that jumps out batters it anyway. Other than that they're good machines and can punch well above their weight especially on the knotty stuff that an axe won't touch. Me and my son usually run it together one loading one working the machine that way you can soon get through a lot of logs.We left the doobry where it was as you can then put two logs in together so there's no lost time.Just make sure you get it at the right height for you (no bending over) or your back will ache just as much as with the axe ! We actually bought a MANUAL hydraulic splitter years back. (We haven't heated with wood for the last few years because of the state of our chimneys in this "new" home, but I still have the splitter). It works on a duo of hand levers that you pump back and forth to move the splitting wedge. Rather like a bottle type of hydraulic car jack. It is actually easy to move the levers... even an old badger haired fat granny can do it. It splits the wood well and saved me a ton of time and injuries I am sure over the years we used it. When I first bought it cost was the key reason, but I also came to like the fact that it worked quietly and with no needed energy input other than a few energy units that I probably needed to expel anyway. I used to split our wood needed a day or two supply at a time. I could split enough to heat our 1300 sqft home for a day in a little under an hour and that was with several tea breaks. The hardest part of the whole job was moving the wood on and off of the splitter.
hello, its always good to hear from you, im now having a little kick myself moment, i was looking at the lever splitters, i thought that they might make my arms ache quite a lot, but after you have described them they do seem a lot easier than i expected. i also like purely mechanical equipment, the reason being is we have quite a few power cuts here. Im also thinking if i had to have a neighbour it would be you, ha ha, your an oracle of homestead ways ! thanks very much, have a great weekend and take care
Hi hi Just wondering how the splitter is still going as I have been looking at them as when I am working or chainsawing the logs the wife can split. Honest review a few years on would be GREAT. hope family is doing well and everything is growing. Me👍
Hello Joe, its still going strong ! probably now up to 15 tonnes of wood split on it now, im very pleased with it. thanks for popping by, take good care
Hello Nick, i do watch a lot of RUclips videos that others call conspiracy theories ! ha ha and get a lot of future predictions and advents way in advance, then i can make adjustments here to still thrive. I'm not that clever on my own initiative ! Ive also just started watching Gerald Celente for economic events ( march madness is here ! ha ha dont trust banks to look after your money and i have not for the past 4 years, stash the cash else where ! ). Being ahead of the games they play can make you continue to prosper. Energy prices will continue to rise for at least 6 years or until more nuclear power station are completed in the UK, along with food, the worst is still to come im afraid ! my goal this year is to put up more solar power, battery banks ( a house with no bills ! ) and grow even more veg than previous years. Keep safe and well Nick, thanks for popping by.
Hello, the building is a garage that has been here since the mid nighties and i did not build it. I love working with wood though and have built a tree house high up in an old oak tree and recently built a water well hut. Im also refurbishing an very old hut which seems to be here over 100 years, it has old square hand forged nails in it ! thanks so much for popping by, good luck and take care.
Hello Jack, thanks for popping by, im hoping this lasts for 10 years, we have owned it for a couple of years now and its split probably over 10 tonne of wood and still working fine. I brought this as it was higher rated than what we needed and we are not overloading it too much. Cheers and take good care.
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD well thats good to know thanks. i was not sure weather to get the log master or the titon pro. i would rather pay more and get one that will last. chear and take care too.
Hello, sorry for a late reply, mine is still going strong with up to about 4 tonne split now, thanks for popping by with a comment, take care and happy splitting.
Love the review Gary. The hard thing looks a bit weedy. Is is necessary or worth having. 5 years on. Would you still recommend this model, or another. Cheers pal :)
Hello Chris, luckily its still working well, but the guard around the top was very weedy and has now been removed, it has cut some impressive tonnage of wood over them years, i would still recommend it. I burn about 5 uk tonnes of wood per year, i would say about 3 to 4 tonne of that goes through the log splitter, so that around 15 to 20 tonne the log splitter has worked. Thanks so much and take care Chris
A double wedge on that would half the time again especially if all ur rounds are sub 10 inch I've been splitting all wood for 5 years with an axe and im about ready to buy a splitter hydraulic or kinetic is my choices but cant decide
Hello Steve, thanks for popping by, I have seen the kinetic machines, they are a lot faster for sure if you cut wood on your own ! we now get a mini production line going, i cut the rounds into the correct sizes with the chainsaw, the wife splits them and my son stacks the wood, it now works very well and fast. where as before i was working on my own with an axe. There is some great log splitters out there. I dream of owning one of them complete wood processing machines ! the really expensive ones where you just load any size log and it cuts and splits in seconds ! Good luck in your choice and take care.
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD yes production line is best or a processor but I personally dont have space money or access for processor unless I turn it into a business which I've been toying with a nice 10 tonne hydraulic or kinetic would fit lovely down the alley into garden and store in shed
Looks like a good splitter, I really like Forest Master stuff, just got their log lifter. I'm staying with my Stihl Maul for now, really quick and effortless on ash and beech (and I'm pushing sixty and have lead a life of debauchery) Looked like you were using a felling axe? not the right tool for the job. Anyhow, thanks for the vid, useful.
Hello, sorry for a late reply, thanks for your comment. You cant beat Stihl, i have one of there chainsaws that never fails to start fist time over many years. Although i do service it regular. Its a shame Stihl don't sell log splitters. Yes i was using a felling axe, i got it cheap at a car boot sale, i have now learnt that one by mistake ! ha ha, there is so so much to learn when running a smallholding and trying to live off the land. Im having to be a butcher, farmer, beekeeper, plumber, electrician, carpenter, chimney sweep, builder ! the list goes on ! but i like it like that. thanks and take care
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD Good luck to you, I bet you'll end up enjoying all the different jobs you have to do. I do, sure beats working for other people. I love logging, and there' a nice sense of security with a good log pile, I know we can stay warm a few years, whatever. Yes, I'm a big Stihl fan, my 024 saws are thirty years old and I've only cleaned and serviced them Same my brushcutter, 21 years old, but I'm rebuilding the carb and fitting new throttle cable. And you can get all the parts, or Chinese copies if you prefer. My Hussqvana brusher cutter airfilter pack was going to be an absurd £21, last time I buy that make.
From one ‘badger’ to another ‘badger’ thank you for the intro to the Log Splitter. Actually, just the video I’ve been hoping to see; as someone of similar age to you I have been experiencing the same dilemma. I purchased a Rayburn on the back of watching one of your videos, now it looks like I may go and follow your lead and buy this very same log splitter. ...For gods sake Gaz, please, please don’t go and colour your hair pink!!
ha ha a pink rinse ! its good to hear you have got a rayburn, when you think about it your can now cook food no matter what happens, (power cuts and all that), its all about future proofing yourself as well, because im pretty sure in the future things will be changing and energy prices are going to rise dramatically, carbon tax is only around the corner ! which can only be based on meter readings, not by logs being passed through the door of a Rayburn ! im pleased your getting your self sorted, cheers Matt have a great week and im now getting back to plucking turkeys ! take care
😂 what a brilliant review, had me laughing lots. Sensible review as well. Just bought one of these and apart from struggling with dry Eucalyptus tye only issue I have is the minimum distance between the blades. It needs to go closer so small wide rounds can be split. How you getting on with yours?
Hello, yes Eucalyptus will not split well at all ! , this is the type of wood and its grain structure that makes it hard not the log splitters fault. I work for a lumber jack sometimes and get paid in wood , but i no longer except Eucalyptus for this reason, also when its dry it blunts my chainsaw quick, its a great hard wood to burn but a pain to process to size ! My log splitter still works fine but i did remove the guard on top as i found it a pain and it got in the way. thanks so much for popping by with a comment and question, keep safe and well.

hello rob thanks for popping by, the shit is really going to hit the fan early next year, im expecting civil unrest as well in the big cities, i would stock up if you have spare cash as goods and food will triple to what they are now and shortages will get worse.
Hi hi
Just wondering how the splitter is still going as I have been looking at them as when I am working or chainsawing the logs the wife can split. Honest review a few years on would be GREAT.
hope family is doing well and everything is growing.
Me👍
Hello Joe, its still going strong ! probably now up to 15 tonnes of wood split on it now, im very pleased with it. thanks for popping by, take good care
Watching in 2023, how right you were about fuel prices..... although it's not really rocket science!
Hi Gary im a self builder did you build that wood house in the background?
Hello, the building is a garage that has been here since the mid nighties and i did not build it. I love working with wood though and have built a tree house high up in an old oak tree and recently built a water well hut. Im also refurbishing an very old hut which seems to be here over 100 years, it has old square hand forged nails in it ! thanks so much for popping by, good luck and take care.
Good investment mate, happy splitting. Love to all 👍😊
cheers Andy me old mucker ! keep warm, take care
i had a wolf creak 5 ton and it lasted about 3or4 years. not so happy with that but it did get some use though.
Just got a 6 ton one (Ebay Forest Master)------so far happy at the size of logs it splits ;-) and a free guard.
Hello, sorry for a late reply, mine is still going strong with up to about 4 tonne split now, thanks for popping by with a comment, take care and happy splitting.
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD One bolt missing but going well ;-) £349 (Ebay site)with guard but no stand.
Love the review Gary. The hard thing looks a bit weedy. Is is necessary or worth having. 5 years on. Would you still recommend this model, or another. Cheers pal :)
Guard, bloody productive text. I meant the guard!!!!
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD yes production line is best or a processor but I personally dont have space money or access for processor unless I turn it into a business which I've been toying with
a nice 10 tonne hydraulic or kinetic would fit lovely down the alley into garden and store in shed
DON'T FORGET YOUR HAMMER!!!
ha ha yep the hammer is back safe in my tool shed ! thanks very much and take care
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD Thanks very much, my Fiskas X27 seems t handle it provided its not more than three inches thick. Like you say a great burner.
You were bang on about fuel prices going up, any more predictions?.
hello rob thanks for popping by, the shit is really going to hit the fan early next year, im expecting civil unrest as well in the big cities, i would stock up if you have spare cash as goods and food will triple to what they are now and shortages will get worse. I cant predict the future but keep my eye on the background stuff that the mainstream media don't talk about. I used to get called a conspiracy theorist ! ha ha now people come for advice ! thanks, keep safe and well. Good luck
Wait you got a Wood Splitter through the post, you left that in really LOL
Get your doobry adjusted properly before your start fine bit of advice.
ha ha are you sure you was in the RAF and not writing the puns for news papers ? ha ha, keep them coming ! , thanks Dave and take care
Well worth it if it makes life easier Gary.
yes , chopping wood is no longer a chore ! cheers Roy for popping by take care
That was a good price u paid. Where did u buy it
Hello Marc, i bought it direct from forest masters website, its still going strong and has saved a lot of hard work, thanks Marc for popping by, take care
All that wood you’ve got 🥰🥰🥰
This did make me laugh, the music interlude was funny, Bit of a time waster though as its so slow to operate, ideal for the ageing DIY'er so happy splitting 👍
ha ha yes thats me ! getting too old to chop wood with an axe ! thanks for popping by, keep safe and well
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD Will do thanks...Likewise!😉 I had a hydraulic splitter made to fit on the end of my mini digger, works a treat as you can manoeuvre it wherever you need via the boom without moving the machine much 👌gone are the days of splitting by hand...especially with gnarly grain wood. 🤦♂️
Where’s it made , need I ask ? China probably like all the rest of them .
Hello, its made in the UK strangely enough by a British company, cheers for popping by, take care
Watching in 2022 and fuel prices have sky rocketed!
Hello, thanks for popping by, the world is going crazy ! self sufficiency eases the burdens created by the big wigs ! hope your doing okay in these times. thanks for your comments. keep safe and well.
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD You're not wrong. To much government & to many civil servants lining their own pockets at our expense! We are currently finishing of some restoration work on our suburban home, then plan to do exactly as you have :)
Just found your channel and swiftly going though your videos. Keep up the good work.
funny and good info
Hello, thanks Susanne for popping by, take good care
If you are retired and have the time to spend watching it good luck .......
Hello, thanks for popping by with a comment, im not quite retired yet but do work from home hard on our smallholding, i also spend a lot of time cutting wood to heat the home for free. oh i wish i could retire ! but that would come with death ! ha ha, smallholders work is never done, thanks and take good care
The cover will blow up, when a log explodes. I don't like the cover at all. IT LIMITS SIZE OF LOGS as well
Hello, yes ive also removed my cover, it was a bit of a pain ! thanks for popping by.
@@ESCAPINGTHEMATRIXFORGOOD Good deal i want ya safe
Made in China ?
Hello, unbelievably its made in the UK, i cant stand crappy things made in china ! cheers for popping by.
take the cage off ya woosss
blah ha ha, yes its now off , it was a pain in the ass that cover. cheers for popping by.
@ESCAPING THE MATRIX FOR GOOD lol... yes.. a pain to put on, a pain to feed in the logs and probably all in all, more dangerous...👍
Noddy splitter
blah ha ha, nice one ! I would love a proper wood processor, one of those 6 grand ones but i only had Noddy money ! cheers for popping by.
Irritating 😠
You have missed out the word arse hole on the end ! thanks for popping by
