Like the cord for foot operation, game changer saves so much time

It's a dangerous idea. The whole point of a 2 hand operation is to avoid accidents. All it takes is miscoordination with your foot and you've got a broken hand.

Great mod! I managed to get a waist high titan stand for my splitter. They are like rocking horse shizzle , then added a momentary switch to it so its one handed opperation, its a game changer

Suggest you hone leading edge of wedge to knife like finish. Reduces pressure needed to start split, & eases strain on pump, so less heat generated by the electric motor. Improve life expectancy of the tool.
A Forest Master Duocut wedge head is a good investment, I found. Allowing processing of logs that previously overloaded the system.

Where can I get the wedge head replacement please? Or is a different splitting machine?

I think he means a splitting axe (maul) head.

EXCELLENT DEMO. Proper Well Done to you sir!. Really like your adapted stand, mods, advise and cautions. I'm already thinking about how I'll do my own version of the bench and foot adapter. Your example of log diameter was also very interesting. Most other RUclips demo's with similar type splitter's, mostly 5 or 6 ton pressure compared to the 4ton on this model, have been with much smaller logs. I've been sitting on the fence the last couple weeks on getting one (same model) in Screwfix IE, or if I needed to consider something a little bigger (i.e. 8ton Vertical Splitter, for well over twice the price and more).Just put my money down now and heading out to collect. Thank you for your effort on this. J

If you are not moving the splitter around, you are OK to leave the valve permanently open. It's purely to prevent the hydraulic oil from weeping out during transportation. 👍

Glad I watched this. Well thought out mods. I trust that your black thumbnail wasn't caused on the splitter!😃

Forest master may have a replacement from their range of models that may fit this machine.

@Ornamental & Orchard Do you guys sell to the public? Loads of tree surgeons in my area, but none seem to advertise their spoils.

@Sepp Pileggi hi, I don't do logs commercially, there's very little profit unless your processing tonnes a day. And delivering unprocessed timber directly from site is often more hassle than it's worth.
      Sorry dude.

Our mods to this design are:
Foot operated switch, strong bungee cord to hold lever down until you lift it, similar stand on wheels.
We used this for years, no injuries, but found it rather slow. Have now invested in a “kinetic” design splitter: very fast, but needed some “improvements” again, and of course much more expensive.
