Thanks! I tried your recommended settings, but with slightly more contrast and saturation and used your ETTR recommendations (along with your guide on using the histogram). Very helpful!
Thanks for selling your settings Peter. A great time saver. OM should enable custom modes via smartphone on all their cameras. To support people like you.
Now that the prices have come down with the OM systems cashback, I am planning to buy this camera with the 12-45. Very helpful to have this video as a resource. Much better than going through a manual. Thanks Peter.
Hi Peter I have very recently purchased the OM5 with the 12-45mm f4 PRO lens here in England, as the package is now being heavily discounted during this month. Just for context, I am an amateur photographer who has been using M43 for many years, after deciding that the low weight and small size suited me for travel, street and ED photography. I have owned a number of Panasonic Lumix cameras, and more recently the GX9 coupled with small fast prime and zoom lenses has become my favourite 'go to' kit. However, unfortunately the GX9 lacks weather sealing, (often needed in the wet and windy UK) and so I decided to give the discounted OM5 a try, particularly after watching your 'First Impressions' video. Well, after using the OM5 for a week or so, and with your much appreciated help regarding best settings, I can see my GX9 now has some serious competition!!😀 So, many thanks for your very helpful and much appreciated videos and I look forward to seeing you in action again soon.
I still haven't decided if I prefer to have the exposure compensation on the front or rear wheel but knowing that I can reverse the functions seems great to me. 😄 Thank you very much Peter for giving us so much useful information 🥰
Thanks so much for this video. I'm really thinking about buying a OM-5 after looking for weather sealed M43. First thought about a EM-5 III, but used with a weather sealed lens it's only 200 less than a new OM-5 kit with the 12-45 pro with my corporate benefits code. Might also get the 17mm 1.8 and later, in a year or so, the 40-150 pro.
E- M5 Mark III is still a capable camera. OM-5 is agood choice with the 12-45mm lens. Adding a fast prime is a good idea. I hope you enjot photography with your OM-5.
Tahnks so much for this detailed and precise tutorial. That's my first Olympus camera and have still a lot to learn. I've succeeded to set the manual focus but I didn't succeed to find out this function when using video. Is there a way to set some manual focus on videos ? Thanks for your attention and reply. best regards from Parma, Italy
Hello, how are you? I have the Om5 system and also the Omd5 Mark ll. I have compared the dynamic range of the two cameras and the noise at high iso and in low light and I can't understand why the Omd5 Mark ll still has a better dynamic range and better response to noise... I have tested both cameras with the 12-40 f/2.8 lens. I have used the same parameters on both cameras. It's incredible how the Omd5 Mark ll far surpasses it. Am I configuring the Om5 wrong..??? Is it a sensor problem?? Thank you very much.
I cannot reaslly say what the problem might be. In my test the difference was not really that big. OM-5 was slightly better. Did you have the same settings, exposure and ISO?
How do you turn off the Self-Timer LED light when its counting down? Thank you for the video, also can you map one of the cross-pads to a picture profile?
@@ForsgardPeter yea I was told that using silent timer option that would stop the LED from going on, and it seemed to work but now using it once more the light still comes on. Truly weird
Hi, Peter, many thanks for a very useful video and as a result I've got the OM 5 well set up with my own preferences. But I've a problem and having wandered the menu maize several times I can find no solution. Problem: When I take what I think will be single photo (S-AF) I frequently get six copies of the same image. I also find images taken when I lower the camera to look around for another shot. I've probably inadvertently set something wrongly. I'd be very grateful for you help. Stay well.
The camera started shipping on Nov. 17th, and at the moment, it is out of stock in many places. Photo Warehouse in New Zealand has it in stock. I do not understand your comment. Did I miss understand something?
OM Workspace, iOS and updating firmware can sometimes be a bit hard. The security settings in iOS are quite strict. OI.Share is a better option. It has always worked better than OM Workspace.
Hello Peter! Thank you for your work and your videos. I have the first omd e-m5 since 2012 and would like to invest in a new case. Do you know if the face detection is as effective between the new OM-1 and the OM-5? I am not a professional, I practice photography only for leisure. Thank you very much and keep up the good work, Nikol
@@ForsgardPeter I guess that in 11 years the cameras and IA must have evolved in the right direction 😅. Thank you for your answer and have a good day Peter.
Is there a way to increase raw resolution more than 3200x2400? I keep getting that resolution and the manual tells that there are higher resolutions. The jpeg resolution works.

De plus l'auteur n'est ni français, ni anglais et c'est déjà bien d'avoir ce contenu en anglais plutot qu'en finlandais. Allez, un effort pour l'anglais ! Good thing that it can be either one.
You probably you use it far more than changing aperture, put in on the back wheel so you can keep your finger on the shutter

You can do it from the video menu page. If you have a lens that has MF Clutch just use that.

S-AF means single auto focus. You probably have Sequencial Shooting on.
On December 3rd 2022, DP Review still does not list the OM System OM-5 release date. Photo Warehouse in Auckland, New Zealand does not list it at all.

Just updated OM Workspace to latest version and it still doesn't work with macOS Ventura to connect to camera. So will have to try the iPhone app.

In my opinion OM-1 is slightly better. Both are quite good. It works best when using C-AF+Face Priority

Where do you get that resolution? That is only 7,7Mpix?
Is there any noticeable difference between lcd and EVF?
EVF is better quality, but both are usable.
