$h!t I'd be happy with the uber fare @5 , 3 is like a slap in the face. Socal San Diego is 4. but you don't see that many short rides, most are around $8 mark average driver cut. I'd be ok if the made NoCal minimum 4 but they need to quit with the 16 mile/minute pick-ups.
I just started UBER driving yesterday in San Diego. I was very nervous at first but watching your videos has made me feel alot more comfortable. Keep up the great work!
+Uber Man I really like it. I had a perfect 5 star rating after 15 rides. The 16th rider gave me a 1 for taking longer route to airport. Sucks, I'm a newbie to my city. One ride could ruin my 15 perfect rides.
+Jonathan Yaghoubi Don't sweat it. Pax ding drivers from time to time for the dumbest of reasons...sometimes it's your fault when you get dinged, sometimes it won't be. Relax -- you'll be fine.
+Jonathan Yaghoubi I always ask the passengers which way THEY want to go. That way if it's farther it's a bonus. Plus, if we get stuck at a train crossing they can't say shit about it.
been knowing since they make a "cancel no show" option. this it's awesome! let me break it down why a 5 cancel is better than a 5 ride. 5 dollar cancel looks like this 5.00 - %20 = 4.00 (time total = around 6-7mins) 5 dollar ride looks like this 5.00 - 1.30 (Chicago rider fee and tax) - %20 = 2.96 (time total can be around 15 mins) so you have $4.00 in 7mins tops or $2.96 in 15 mins basically more money in way less time. Take your pick. It's completely within the bounds of Uber's policy as well.
there have been many times the rider has a bad "pin" pick-up, they are sometimes in the back of the building lot rather than the front, I was sent to an area and the app said I was there, even Wave said "you have arrived" and it's not even the right street, so then you have to drive around to see if the street is the next one over, also had riders pin the address wrong and this can be f'd up unless you get them on the phone and the tell you WTF is going on. I'm there to please the rider but sometimes this crap Uber does is BS, we should get .50 just to accept a ride, .50 more if they cancel, .50 for arrival + the fare at a 20% rate not 25%, flat minimum $4 (or 5) under 3 mile ride then .75 per mile. question is, how do we know how far the rider is going, we could be canceling a trip that pays $20-40 bucks or more and then spent the rest of the day getting crappy rides.
Great video. You got almost 10k subscribers and 2 million views. Holy shit, you are a celebrity. I saw on my local Charleston board you were being talked about (in a good way). It is a FB closed group. Keep up the good work :)
Ok, I've never cancelled on a rider (but have gotten many riders cancel on me). Didn't realize I had the capability . Lol. Now I don't need to wait like my time is not worth much, but treat myself and my time seriously and move on! You are SO good for me, Überman. Aligning myself with you, as always. ~ your fan
Stay away from USC (los angeles), I felt like a pinball getting knock around back and forth running snotty ass collage kids making pizza runs from the dorm to the other side of campus. Also many times you get a ping before you drop off the rider you have now, if you accept, it could be another snotty ass student. I like to drop off a rider, turn app off for a second, get my bearings then turn it back on.
For me the counter starts the moment I am arriving at the location and Uber says "passenger has been notified". If the passenger isn't there within 5 minutes I cancel and drive off, no remorse.
that's all well an good I'd just remember your name/face an itd be one less person I had to deal with. I've actually never had anybody take that long but if they did I'd expect that money
Never had that happen to me, if they take forever to show and I cancel I don't see them ask for a ride again. Now, my exception to the rule is if a rider actually contacts me and tell me it's going to take a while, yes I will wait if you contact me, at least I know that you are indeed coming. When I was a new Uber driver I sat on a few riders that didn't show up, one took almost 20 minutes, and as a new driver I really didn't know what exactly to do, what was the protocol. So I created my on: anything more than a 5 minute wait and I am gone. I'll also add that every time I arrive at a pick up and the rider isn't there I send a text message saying "Hello, I am your Uber driver. I am waiting outside in a dark Honda Fit." They have no excuse to be over 5 minutes late without a reply.
I drive in Las Vegas and have a little better rate than some cities but really could be more. Lyft has even a higher rate. Taxis are way up there and has helped our riders ride with Uber. My main issue is to stop driving when tired. I have found when I am tired you can not think ahead as much as you need, such as missing a turn or seeing an address on a dark house. Las Vegas, if you are not from here it takes a lot of thought since you have all the traffic and so many back streets to remember. Yes GPS mapping works well once you get started but not all the time until you drive out on a street. So be well rested so you can deal with knowing your trip before you take off or being able to remember where the traffic is best for your route.
I live in Los Angeles. The public transportation is not bad. If a person wants a ride they should pay a minimum of $10 for the service. Excellent service plus convenience equals value. Take a bus for $3.
Uber man. . again thank you for the reply... In regards to the first question I asked you about the rider no show, which you answered. ... What about this scenario.? 1. rider requests ride and driver shows up to supposed location. I start the clock on the application software once I have arrived at that destination. 2. I wait 5 minutes and then 5 seconds and then call or text client to ask them where they are ....the client has told me that they are at a different location than originally put into the software for the destination pickup point. 3. client apologizes that they put in wrong destination, tells me what the correct destination is and then I proceeded to head to that client. ( bearing in mind that the clock on the application is still running after the 5 minutes 5 seconds.) 4, I arrive at the different destination the client told me about. from that point forward, before rider gets in the car, can we ... cancel the trip... Get paid because initially it was a rider no show ( or in this case wrong pick up point) and then re request the ride from the new destination start point? or.... let the entire trip ride out as it normally should have been ( with erroneous initial location and then correct new location )and then close the trip once the rider departs the vehicle? That way we would get paid from the initial destination point even though the client messed up on that? it would seem only fair because the client initially put in an incorrect address, we had to wait for that period of time, we contacted them and let them know that we were waiting and then they advised us of the new location, go and pick them up and bring them to their desired destination point in essence, since they put it in incorrectly, we showed up, had to wait, drove to them and then proceeded to bring them to desired destination. I would think we would be able to get the entire ride as a whole or cancel part 1 of the ride, re request the second part of the ride and then take them to their destination... Err go... we get paid twice. any ideas or recommended solutions to this problem? this has happened a few times, especially with drunk university students. Please advise per your convenience. Thank you :-)
+Rick Rozek In this situation you have two options only. Either cancel the trip as a no show, or continue to the correct location on your dime. We are not allowed to start the trip until the PAX is in the vehicle. Otherwise you will eventually get terminated.
Thank you so much for this video (and of course all others) I usually start the trip when they get in, I have also been guilty of calling, getting ready to make this a more full time gig, and I am glad to know that this will help me, after all, they are notified when I arrive.
Hey uberman I've been driving for Uber a little over a year now and I want to thank you for your videos they have helped me learn a lot about how to maximize my earnings. Wayne from N.C. Thanks
lytf charge $10 cancellation and it's 100% for the driver. and as soon as you arrive at the pick up location you press arrive then the clock starts, so they can take forever if they like you still get pay for waiting. uber wants the rider to actually be in the car before you can start the trip
I agree. Riders cancel on me about 2-3 times per day. It pisses me off. So I start to use a timer on my smart phone and wait for 5 minutes and cancel on a rider who decides not to show up. I think it's fair.
Hey guys I'm very new with only 18 trips in and I'm loving it so far. I had one rider who never came out of the hotel for pick up. I phoned her and she hung up on me. I waited for another 10 min and decided to cancel because I wasn't sure what to do to move on and keep working. My questions are, can a rider give you a bad rating for this instant and is there a clock on the app to show the time you are waiting for a rider?
+SuperChagster They can not leave you any rating if the trip was not started. There is no clock on the app that shows how long you have been waiting. Hope you continue driving! Thanks for a great question!
+NY Uber Driver I had 3 cancellations when I was over 5 minutes almost at the pickup spot and the passenger cancelled. When I requested payment from Uber they stiffed me. Waste of my time, gasoline, wear and tear, and damages my rating. Now I never accept pings that are 8 minutes+ out of my range because I know Uber will stiff me. CA Uber driver $5 cancellation fee here.
asalazar40 I'm sorry to here that. The 5 minute clock starts when you are at the pick up spot. I know it's sucks. Sometimes when that happens I wait for a 1 or 2 minutes. Some Pax hit the cancel button by accident. Since you are even closer you get the same ping from the same Pax.
This is great info. I'm a new driver and I had to waste about 5 minutes trying to find a college kid on campus. Later he apologized that when he requested the ride, he had done it from another campus hall, then had walked to another area of the campus.... Then I got a call right after I dropped off a different customer. But when I arrived the customer had just cancelled. So my question is: I thought the 5 minutes starts from when you accept the call, not your arrival. According to what I read on the Uber partner app when I requested a cancellation fee (I see this video was posted last year, so maybe it has since changed to when you accept the call?).
+D. Augustine It depends. If you accepted, and have been driving in that direction for 5 mins, yes it counts. If you're sitting still, no. It's best to drive, wait, and cancel. I don't recommend screwing over the PAX.
UM - I have decided to do Uber full-time. I have to say I feel great cause I feel I work for myself and after 100 trips in two weeks I've had great riders, great conversations. You never know who you may meet. Out of 407 trips, I only had one minor problem with one rider and that was in December 2015 cause they were drunk. Other than that it feels great working for yourself. I did two straight weeks with no surges and I was still satisfied with my turnout. It only motivates me to take advantage of every surge that comes. I work six days a week at my own hours and enjoy it. I don't feel like a cab driver just feel like you giving someone a ride down the street and getting paid for it and having a good conversation on the way. The money adds up as long as you stay on the road.
im confused, in a previous video you mention that youre against checking where the passenger is going and cancelling? also, do you mean cancel the trip after 5 min with the passenger in the car? or not grabbing them at all? and what if you arrive and theyre waiting and saw you already/?
+rick miller No, you're way off lol... Don't check and cancel at all... I'm saying if you get there, wit 5 mins, and they are not getting in the car, cancel, take your fee, and move on. If they are waiting for you, take them.
I am a heavy Uber user and I can tell when a driver come with this approach, he doesn't call/text and cancel's as soon as he can. We the customers hate it! It might come after you
+Uber Man You are right by that, but, let me explain. Business has proven time and time again that when it works in favor of both sides that is when it works out best! many of your ideas don't necessarily hurt anyone its just basically tricks, but this one I wanted to let you know that we the customers feel it and its very painful when you're in a rush to come out and learn that your driver left you to make a few dirty dollars more. you sound like a nice guy and this trick doesn't match your personality. Plus I usually complain to uber about it. I mean come on, let's be fair, you're sitting there and doing nothing, you have my number, why not call or text? I hope I am clear enough. (BTW, I usually fight the cancellation fee and I win in most cases. I am not sure if it affects you or not)
+Charlie Miller If you win the cancellation fee, it does not affect us at all. We still get it. And I respect your opinion. I am a nice guy by nature. Sadly, customers (passengers) do not understand how these ridiculous rates ($0.30/mi in Detroit, $0.70/mi in OKC) are killing drivers. That's not your fault, it's also not ours. We have to do (within the boundaries of our TOS) what we need to in order to maximize our profitability. At these rates every dollar counts. My last Uber ride to Yukon was only $24. I tipped my driver $20. Still WAY cheaper than a cab for me. If more passengers helped to compensate for the rate cuts with tips (if deserved), more drivers would stop cancelling for the fee. As it stands, this is the way it is. We do what we need to do.
I do this if necessary. I did that because after 5 minutes there a huge risk of losing good trips if you in a middle of a surge or pic. Also, they use their rights to request an uber to drive 2 blocks. thanks randy. drive smartly as I do in Miami! no drunks and after 4 am no junk...
John LeGresley exactly those 3 dollar trips can earn you 5 to 10 dollars tips. You NEVER know who your gonna get and whos gonna tip. So i disagree with cancelling short rides. Its a gamble
My concern is always if I cancel, and then right as I start driving away they quickly come out and want to get in. I guess you then have to explain that you already cancelled the ride because they weren't there within the allotted 5 minutes, and that they will need to schedule the ride again. I did end up cancelling on someone a couple of days ago, though. I went to the location, and waited almost 5 minutes when I sent her a text that I was waiting outside, and then waited a few more minutes and no response. I tried calling her on the phone, and no answer. (It was at a club, though, she probably couldn't hear the phone.) Oh well, I waited at least 10 minutes on her, longer than I should have, before I gave up and cancelled.
Here in El Paso you don't get to many rides, last week I received a request 15 minutes away from my home so I accepted it cause haven't made any on a saturday, picked 3 guys and they went 34 miles west to Las Cruces New Mexico, Stopped at Taco Bell(looks like is the riders favorites) It was like an hour trip, ended up whit 50 bucks and 20 on tips, but had to return empty to El Paso. I drove them there cause I didn't know they were going that far, next time a 12 to 15 min ride to pick up I'll just ignore it.
Hey I'm driving in Boston too. Picked up a pax who said she had just been charged $10 for a cancellation (don't remember details but I think it was no ones fault). But she was pissed and was in the process of getting the fee reversed. All you have to do is complain to customer service and they will cave. Everyone has the ability to dispute a cancellation fee and only a few ppl can afford not to care.
Had a run yesterday, showed up at a condo building, waited 4 minutes, pax calls "I am sorry I forgot to move the pin, you are picking up two students at school" (high school about a mile away) figured be nice and drove there, get there, only 2 cars there, about 20 students outside hanging out, wait 2-3 minutes, no one shows up, call pax she does not answer her phone, wait another 2-3 then cancel. 5 minutes later the pax calls and leaves a not so pleasant voice mail demanding why I did not pick anyone up and demanding her $10 back, Like I am suppose to know who her kids are. Going to keep checking to make sure Uber does not reverse the fee. Guess pax calling and complaining the downside of cancelling trips, but do agree well worth it in the end.
Uber needs to make the cancellation fee during surge higher. Saturday I had two no show cancellations during surge times. Wait five minutes and then surge is gone or much lower. It can be very frustrating getting a surge ride, you wait they cancel and screw up your Surge opportunity. However it's very likely that Uber will never address this issue. Makes sense to me that if it's in surge then cancellation fee should reflect surge pricing as well. This has happened quite a few times to me and is really irritating!
pax order uber during surge so it's double carrot in the stick mean time.pax watch his friend uber app and wait for surge to go . pax cancel and rebook I. you are most probably the closest. do as follow log off and drive away from the area. guys when surge ends just wait offline. fuck them
Sean Mcpeek YES i just had this happen some drunk female i accepted while on another run got to her pick up and called her and she said i cancelled that im in another uber during a surge. I was pissed and she would not cancel she was so drunk she thought she did and i cancel as customer request cancel and got nothing. I am new to and didnt know how i should cancel these when it happens
most excellent advising UM!. like 85% of people on the road-my number one challenge IS gas, so I need to be comp'd for so-whether or not (x) happens. intently, I'm looking to hang a sign on the back of the seat/rear pick-ups advising them to : "TIPS although truly NOT required-are greatly appreciated-in the form of GAS over CASH-so if you can help-thanks". is this legit to request, or no? thanks for your input.
+janne wallace I think that will be ok. You can try it, and if your rating suffers, or if Uber contacts you, remove it. Thanks for the compliment, it's much appreciated.
The overclock runs on its own now and then tells you to cancel if they're not there. Make sure you push Rider no show and not rider not at location. If you push rider not at location you won't get paid.
I take short trips all the time. Sometimes the fare is $5 or less but I tip at least $5 or more in cash. Why when I wait 15-20 minutes for an Uber at the airport and the driver cancels don't I get a cancellation fee. My time is valuable also and it happens often.
Uber man. ... first and foremost being a driver in the Northeast I love your videos and please keep up the good work... A question in relation to this video... specifically relating to the video, I do work in a college town. Many times the rider will have their location put in but sometimes they are off by a mile or two miles. The other night the rider was off by 7 miles and put the incorrect destination in. I called them and they told me where they work and drove 7 miles back... And was not happy. Could I have arrived at the "incorrect" location even though it was not the exact pick up point, started the clock. Waited 5 minutes, then do rider no show cancel and then contact the rider after the fact and then find out where they truly were and then go back and have them re request ride ? not trying to shaft anybody price wise but trying to get an idea what is deemed proper protocol in this scenario like this if you can share your thoughts please. Your thoughts on this & the best way to proceed? Best. Rick :)
+Uber Man I've noticed something about these pin drops.... When riders drop the pin a long distance from where their originally located, it's in order to avoid the surge pricing in their immediate area.
I signed up a while ago but did not do my first ride until March 25 2016 after changing cars from the first car I signed up with. Can I still use the promo code in your link.
+Uber Man YEA I had a run couple days ago, 3 min in I try to text the client, couple minutes go by hear nothing, try to wait 8 minutes then I just cancel them. I just tell them that were not able to wait longer then 5 minutes and to request again
Stating that your insurance company will cancel and blackball you if you mention that you ride share is ridiculous. At worst, they'd tell you that you're not covered while you're doing it.
I think that if you cancel and the rider request again is better not to take it because he will be already offset and no matter what you say he wont rate you good. it happened to me on a pool.
Thank you for the helpful videos. How do we see the final destination of a rider? I find they don't fill it in and it wastes time to me. Also can Uber post the landmark such as Marriot- located at xyz address. The gps is terrible and always put you in the wrong place which I imagine is not good for your rating.
Not a problem. Sadly, we can not see the destination before accepting the run, and if they did not enter it at all, we can't see it until they are in the car. You can just type in the name of a hotel, instead of an actual address, and it will work. Thanks.
the GPS does aggravate me at times and lots of bad pins. and you seem to get ping as soon as you pass up a rider and at sometimes in New Orleans it takes a lot of time to backtrack. Usually tourists don't have a problem but locals who should know those places, and they tend to get aggrivated
5 min 10 sec and I'm gone ! No call no text , I go to the pin . I don't do short round trips anymore . My rating might take a hit but oh well . They get out I end it and move on .
If they don't put the destination in, how are we to know where they are going? I usually don't start the trip until they are in the vehicle This may be my new policy.
same here in San Joaquin Valley CA, Stockton, Lodi, and surrounding cities even Sacramento. it sucks getting 16 minute pick-ups and they go 1 mile, I've been complaining to Uber every chance I get. it's just not worth it I may as well flip burgers. the rates should be the same everywhere, it's no wonder they don't have drivers working the cities. I was working in SoCal (Carlsbad CA) and the lowest rate was $4, Stockton $3 (Uber fare) and the same 2.25 driver cut, people can afford to take a bus one way $1.25 and back later thats $2.50 for a non door to door service, Uber is really abusing the drivers and insulting their intelligence. someone needs to get some real management in there to give drivers what they deserve, every time I go offline I'll see a surge and if I'm in the middle of it and go online it disappears, or they will show an area surging and if I'm heading that way it keeps getting farther, I have been in the middle of their "surge" and receive no pings and then the disappear, so I say BS to their surge crap, I think the whole time I've driven for Uber I seen one short ride at a 1.2x surge, I have had some decent days of payouts but nothing in the amounts I am hearing some drivers getting, and some days total crap. I don't like big city traffic and I don't like driving nights so I have basically strayed away from nights. I have yet to see a cancellation fee even though I get those 10+ minute pick-ups canceling 2-3 times because they are looking for a closer ride I imagine. maybe our rides need to start when we receive the call from now on ! I have excepted every time I get a ping I guess it's time to change that strategy for the area I'm in now. maybe we could give Uber our number and they can negotiate these trips that don't pay, I'd really like to talk face to face with them and ask "would you run your car into the ground for some company that takes 25% for doing basically NOTHING ?" ok so you have software developers and others that need to be paid for God know what... maybe they need to get out and drive some too and "feel the burn". ok rant over for now.
here in my city we dont get the cancellation money if the driver cancelled until 10 mins. the 5 mins only applies to passenger cancelations. most passengers do come out before 5 mins and will rate down if the clock starts upon arrival. they really dont like that.
I'm a little confused, when you say start the clock do you mean start the trip or just say you have arrived? and when you cancel, do you put "no show"?
how do you now where they are going prior to starting the trip? I start the trip as soon as they open my car door....I heard that starting the trip before they get in is unethical and some passengers rate you low because of it....
+gen genn No, don't start the trip. He's saying once you've arrived, start watching the clock. Once it gets to 5 minutes, cancel it. I do agree with you about not knowing where the passengers are going....it could be a 30 mile trip right?
Uber is only good for the rider and uber. I NEVER accept pool. Uber also fucks you with loop holes, it's happened to me referring a new driver. DRIVERS BEWARE DO NOT REFER NEW DRIVERS. This flooding of areas make you less money! Yeah you get a one time boost but when bonus is gone Uber cares less.
I had a trip yesterday where I arrived at the pickup location and the rider called at the 4 minute 30 second mark to tell me they were near another building in the apartment complex. At this point am I still required to pick them up?
If I cancel a short trip after 5 minutes and the driver is charged 4 dollars wouldn't they be charged less if I didn't cancel it and then notice it and complain to corporate that I'm fleecing them? I'm going through my fare costs in my Uber account and it says some trips cost $3.00 where I live and It only takes one OCD passenger to notice that they where charged a cancellation fee that cost them one extra dollar. Am I getting this right Uber Man?
+AlexMercersRevenge No. People are hiding down from the PAX, and cancelling after 5 minutes in order to get the cancellation fee, and avoid driving at all.
How is it some markets Uber does not give cancellation fees to the drivers, but when I ordered a Uber and cancelled it, a message showed if you cancel after 5 minutes you (the rider) will be charged a cancellation fee. So Uber charges the rider for cancellation fees but don't pay it to the driver?
I'm really tempted to go out and purchase a better car, ect. but heck, this 5 star rating system is NOT FAIR......you say we need to tell passenger's that a 4 is FAILING, so rate me accordingly..well isn't that UBER"S JOB when passengers download the app, and click on the UBER SOP/or rules and regulations?..Unless I keep getting 5 star reviews, getting to 4.6 is really easy to get, and then bye-bye job...there is going to be a learning curve with every job, and UBER I do not think provides a "mentor" like Lyft?...so I'm thinking about going with Lyft first, and then once i get the hang of the app, go with UBER and both really. Thoughts?
+Uber Man oh, it is? then I won't get too excited for it. I asked at the Uber open house about will there ever be a way to let "the system" know which way you are headed so drivers can "pick" your car and they told me about pool - for that idea of going the same direction I thought it sounded interesting - cuz when I have to go to the bathroom I like to be headed in the general direction of home lol
He means start your smartphone stopwatch app on your clock and when that hits 5 minutes cancel the trip with a NO SHOW reason on the cancel. He DOESN'T mean start the actual Uber trip when you get there. That would give the pissed off passenger the chance to rate you. Cancelling without starting the trip protects you.
General question for anyone that is willing to answer. Our local airport charges us $7 to go to the line to pick someone up. Does Uber refund that to us? If so, then how? I refused to pay it and texted the customer and told them to walk 2 parking lots over because yeah, heck no.
That is a tricky question because it varies by market. You will need to speak to Uber to get the real answer. For me, on OKC, they automatically reimburse tolls to out pay each week.
I am a new driver in a VERY small market, with lots, if not most, are short runs. How do you "start the clock"? Does it start when you arrive and it says "the rider has been notified"? Is there a timer on the screen that I am missing? Thanks in advance
I have dealt with this problem so many times. What "reason" do we give if canceling? Also can't they rate us if we do this and it drops our rating that much faster? I thought I had read we weren't allowed to start the meter until they were in the car. If this isn't the case then I need to start the meter every time now because almost every time I have to wait 5 min or longer when picking up from downtown at the bars.
+Jennifer Garner 1) Customer requested cancel. 2) A cancelled trip can not be rated. 3) No, do not start the "meter." 5 mins after you arrive at the destination.
+Uber Man thanks .. I recently waited on a guy and messaged him . waited ten minutes. he kept saying he was coming out. I finally texted and said please review UBER policy after 5 min we can cancel. please keep this in mind next time you UBER. I then canceled with a rider no show. I got my money ($3) here in LR,Arkansas. But about 10 minute later or less I got a bad rating. was it because I chose a different cancelation reason. I even had a guy tell me how UBER will refund riders if they complain.. guess what went down after I dropped him off?? I contacted UBER about him as well. But I feel trying to delegate the ratings and our rights as drivers is oblivious to UBER. They want their money and drivers and expendable. recently in my area its hard to get a surge or good amount of trips because so many are driving now. plus the riders are getting worse! I usually get pissed like you when I get a really bad one or a handful and say @#$& it Im done for a week or 2. lol
+Jennifer Garner No matter what reason you cancel, there is no way for them to rate the driver, or the driver to rate them. It's just not possible. However, a passenger you took 3, 6, 12+ weeks ago can rate you at any moment.
So, start the clock as soon as you arrive? I had someone call me talking about it says you started the trip after I had waited for a minute and he hadn't came out yet. He gets at least two Ubers a day and yet makes us wait.
Why do you guys do ride share? I do Uber eats and it pays way better. Usually 1.5-1.8 boost, with most payouts being in $6-8 range, then I send them a text after dropping the food thanking them and requesting a thumbs up. At that point they see the tip option.
I don't see a clock on uber like lyft has no count down and also I don't see tab to arrive in the uber app like lyft as how do I just the five minutes do I have to time it myself?
If you cancell too much though Uber will send you an email bitching about though. Ive had to cancel alot in one crappy area that has alot of 1 ways and no pplace to really hang out and wait.
+Uber Man Do they ever really deactivate you, or just bitch at you through email? With the current fares, I don't want to take any non-surge rides, but I don't want to cancel so much I get de-activated, either. I hate it when I'm sitting right in the middle of a 4X surge or something, and I get a request to leave the surge area to pick up a rider at normal fare.
I received a call like a week ago from an old man and when I arrived he came out of the restaurant almost drunk and apologize whit me cause he did it by mistake, the wait time was less than 5 minutes, ok I cancel it whit the rider cancel it option and uber didn't gave not even the 2.60, I didn't know what to do or that maybe like I waited less than 5 minutes they didn't charge him whit the cancellation fee. I din't have the option to contact Uber either so don't know what to do.any advise? Uber Man, by the wait thanks for your advises you are our mentor lol
+Abel Leyva Jr Thanks for watching, I appreciate you. If it was less than 5 mins, you get nothing. Otherwise, you can email partners@uber.com to tell them what happened. I hope this helps.
uberman.... thanks for the reply. I live in the New Hampshire seacoast and I am Not sure if you have been hearing with some going on in this part of the country, but one of the cities in the sea coast, specifically Portsmouth New Hampshire has banned uber drivers from picking up passengers... That's not to say that other drivers are not going against this ban. does the insurance in the way Bill cover us? to be more specific, our town wants 100000 - 300000 insurance and minimum of 50000 property damage on our policy... However when one looks at the way Bill it is a 1 million dollar policy, but if you look further down the second part of the way Bill is less than the numbers which I just mentioned. can the million dollar policy be used as A commercial policy if I understand it correctly? If not and we have to get our own insurance with the other numbers which I mentioned, are the rates going to go through the roof as far as regular policy for a typical passenger car versus commercial policy? I guess I'm just trying to figure out where does uber step in on this? we have to get a criminal background check and provide the insurance is which I explained above. Just trying to figure out what a bird does and does not cover to make this all happen. Any thoughts or suggestions? Most appreciated it. :-) thanks again. Look forward to reply :-)
I love strip malls , everyone has cell phones in hand , so when I cancel after the wait time , I usually get the rider walking up to the car typically saying I was right there .. My response always is " Hey you have a picture of me and my car , you should have been looking for me .. Sorry 😁 "
it is better to get to the passnget start the clock don't anwser the passnger call driver around until the passnger Cancels you will get like $9 plus the $5 cancellation fee this is much better
Just wanted to say thank you to all the drivers who do this because I end up being the one who picks them up and makes that $15+ instead of $3 and looking like a total impatient douchebag. So thank you for canceling your rides and making it easier for me to have $300+ days ;) keep on keeping on I love that money.
So wait... You're telling people to accept a request for service (that you have no intention of actually providing), go hide (so the passenger has to play hide-and-go-seek with you) and then cancel on them (in other words collect payment under false pretences for a service you had no intentions of providing in the first place)? In other words, be a scammer and ruin the service for everyone?
Wrong. I did this and my ratings dropped from 4.95 to 4.80 People didn't like you staring the app when they weren't in the car and you cannot cancel once you start the trip. When I stopped doing that my rating stopped dropping and went back up.
I'm a new driver I got an email about cancellations I made like 5 or 6 in 3 days not even full days a total of 11 hrs then I'm unable to go online and I get email stating my account is on hold and under investigation into have no clue what that means or what has happened in have emailed them alot and no response there support service sucks so I haven't been able to drive for 2 days UM wat do I do could you give me some tips
IDK - i rarely have to cancel. I have my own college age children. One is in school otheres graduated in 2010. There are 10 or 20 colleges around me. Never been to taco bell. No 24 hr taco bell here.
Uber should multiply the cancellation fee according to the surge rate.
+Mark Danger Absolutely!! I wish they would.
I think Uber should charge $5.00 minimum fare. I agree if you cannot walk one or two blocks ridiculous. my average rides are $20.00.
i'm assuming he meant a minimum 5 for the driver.
Monte Self I heard acceptance rating didn't matter as much now so if that's true then just decline the longer ones
I just started UBER driving yesterday in San Diego. I was very nervous at first but watching your videos has made me feel alot more comfortable. Keep up the great work!
+Jonathan Yaghoubi Thanks Jonathan. I'm glad I was able to help some. How are you liking it?
5 dollar cancel looks like this 5.00 - %20 = 4.00 (time total = around 6-7mins)
5 dollar ride looks like this 5.00 - 1.30 (Chicago rider fee and tax) - %20 = 2.96 (time total can be around 15 mins)
so you have $4.00 in 7mins tops or $2.96 in 15 mins
basically more money in way less time.
Ian Nowosad Also you dont use your miles on the car.
Great video. You got almost 10k subscribers and 2 million views. Holy shit, you are a celebrity. I saw on my local Charleston board you were being talked about (in a good way). It is a FB closed group. Keep up the good work :)
+B. Leaphart Thanks B. :) I'm gaining momentum. Did you grab yourself a car yet?
Ok, I've never cancelled on a rider (but have gotten many riders cancel on me). Didn't realize I had the capability . Lol. Now I don't need to wait like my time is not worth much, but treat myself and my time seriously and move on! You are SO good for me, Überman. Aligning myself with you, as always. ~ your fan
be careful cancelling that can get you suspended if it goes too high. most of mine are cancelling when I am already on,a trip.
Yep another great "feature" of the app. It can be so stressful in college towns.
For me the counter starts the moment I am arriving at the location and Uber says "passenger has been notified". If the passenger isn't there within 5 minutes I cancel and drive off, no remorse.
After you cancel on them do you ever go back? Part of me thinks that would effect your rating if you picked them up after cancelling.
Aaqil Nasr
You can't rate on a cancellation.
that's all well an good I'd just remember your name/face an itd be one less person I had to deal with.
Otaner Kcereip
Good strategy, sometimes the uber contact system glitches an they don't get the text but usually they do.
+yukafidah1 I agree with that comment 100%.
Uber man. .
again thank you for the reply...
( bearing in mind that the clock on the application is still running after the 5 minutes 5 seconds.)
4, I arrive at the different destination the client told me about.
from that point forward, before rider gets in the car, can we ...
cancel the trip...
+D Garcia Thank you for watching. I appreciate you.
+GiGi P Good info. Thanks.
I agree. Riders cancel on me about 2-3 times per day. It pisses me off. So I start to use a timer on my smart phone and wait for 5 minutes and cancel on a rider who decides not to show up. I think it's fair.
+ewroylong It is 100% fair.
I've been doing this since week one. To eliminate sudden show up of pax, I pull away at minute 4 and push cancel button on my way out.
+ARMANJAN1 Very nice!
Great advice. I waited on someone 10 minutes the other night just to have THEM cancel.
+Gutterguy720 they still get charged $5.00 for canceling 5 mins after initial request
+Gutterguy720 That's why at 5 mins, I'm out.
I 100% agree after the 5 minutes cancel. In NYC it is a $10 cancel fee.
+NY Uber Driver $10 is GREAT!!
That is great to hear! Congratulations on taking this huge step! Please keep us informed as to how you're doing. Stay SAFE out there!
Uber Man sure will, thanks!
im confused, in a previous video you mention that youre against checking where the passenger is going and cancelling?
also, do you mean cancel the trip after 5 min with the passenger in the car? or not grabbing them at all?
and what if you arrive and theyre waiting and saw you already/?
+rick miller No, you're way off lol... Don't check and cancel at all... I'm saying if you get there, wit 5 mins, and they are not getting in the car, cancel, take your fee, and move on. If they are waiting for you, take them.
I am a heavy Uber user and I can tell when a driver come with this approach, he doesn't call/text and cancel's as soon as he can. We the customers hate it! It might come after you
+Charlie Miller No, it won't. This is Uber's policy, we are just following it.
$10. in R.I. & Ma. Hope drivers don't start a new trend of cancelation. Uber might raise the accepted drive off time or lower the fee.
+Karl Power NICE!!!
+Luis Araujo Good advice. Thank you.
+Luis Araujo Miami 305 all time bro, greetings from El Paso ex Miami resident lol. Miami is busy eh??
I start my iPhone's timer soon as I get. I think taking screenshots after 5mins is a good way to proof.
+AfricanCichlidMan That's a great idea!
+AfricanCichlidMan I love my African Cichlids BTW. Beautiful fish.
But.... if you don't wait, you really don't know for sure if that ride was going to be a $2 or a $20 ride. Why not just take a good book?
+John LeGresley That is a good point, and a great idea!
lyft tells ya in advance how much the ride is
@ LT - ??? Where?
I do lyft and I have never seen where they are going in advance of starting the ride.
+Sean Dudley I've never had that happen it over 2 years. It could happen though.
+Abel Leyva Jr Sorry man
The cancellation fee in Boston is $10 :)
+johnd508 Very nice!
+johnd508 You got it! You waited longer than I would have my friend.
+Sean Mcpeek I for sure agree with this statement. 100%
pax order uber during surge so it's double carrot in the stick mean time.pax watch his friend uber app and wait for surge to go . pax cancel and rebook I. you are most probably the closest. do as follow log off and drive away from the area. guys when surge ends just wait offline. fuck them
Sean Mcpeek YES i just had this happen some drunk female i accepted while on another run got to her pick up and called her and she said i cancelled that im in another uber during a surge. I was pissed and she would not cancel she was so drunk she thought she did and i cancel as customer request cancel and got nothing. I am new to and didnt know how i should cancel these when it happens
It's against Uber's policy to start the meter before the rider sits in the car, unless told to do so by the rider
+Easton Bingham That's why I said start the clock, not the meter. Start counting up to 5 mins, and cancel.
How do none of you moolies NOT know how to use the stopwatch app on your smartphone clocks?
most excellent advising UM!. like 85% of people on the road-my number one challenge IS gas, so I need to be comp'd for so-whether or not (x) happens. intently, I'm looking to hang a sign on the back of the seat/rear pick-ups advising them to : "TIPS although truly NOT required-are greatly appreciated-in the form of GAS over CASH-so if you can help-thanks". is this legit to request, or no? thanks for your input.
+janne wallace I think that will be ok. You can try it, and if your rating suffers, or if Uber contacts you, remove it. Thanks for the compliment, it's much appreciated.
+ To beter sum it up 4 all you. How about, " 20% Tipping not required - But very desired. thank you".
I thought it was Ass, Gas, or Grass, nobody rides for free.
The overclock runs on its own now and then tells you to cancel if they're not there. Make sure you push Rider no show and not rider not at location. If you push rider not at location you won't get paid.
You're commenting on some really, really old videos man.
Well people are still watching the video so I figured maybe people would like this information.
got a simple fix. use the timer on you phone. works great
It sure does! Thanks.
No cancellation in Houston any more. At all. Ridiculous.
That sucks!
I think Uber is trying to get drivers to quit, then tell the city they can't keep people, so they can get rid of the licensing requirements.
Yeah. Neither does San Antonio
I take short trips all the time. Sometimes the fare is $5 or less but I tip at least $5 or more in cash. Why when I wait 15-20 minutes for an Uber at the airport and the driver cancels don't I get a cancellation fee. My time is valuable also and it happens often.
Hi new uber driver in NC here...Im confused...what if they come out to the car while I'm waiting?
Uber man. ... first and foremost being a driver in the Northeast I love your videos and please keep up the good work...
Best.
Rick :)
+Rick Rozek YThank you so much! Yes, you could have arrived, waited the 5 minutes, and got that fee. Absolutely.
+S Chiaa Sadly, no. But I thank you for asking.
what option would you select on canceling the trip to collect the fee for cancelation? ??
+Michael Patrick Rider No Show. Works just fine.
+Michael Patrick Rider no show.
Usually tourists don't have a problem but locals who should know those places, and they tend to get aggrivated
when you say start the clock do you mean start trip or just check your timeframe? can't cancel a trip untill it finishes/ drop off
Thank you, Uber Man.
You're welcome.
5 min 10 sec and I'm gone ! No call no text , I go to the pin . I don't do short round trips anymore . My rating might take a hit but oh well . They get out I end it and move on .
It's hard to believe that you get paid when YOU cancel a drive.
+humanyoda Right?!?
If they don't put the destination in, how are we to know where they are going? I usually don't start the trip until they are in the vehicle This may be my new policy.
+Michael Clemons You have no way of knowing where they are going.
I hate it when i go to a client that is 15 min away...then they drag their feet getting out of the house...making me wait 3-4 minutes.
$2.25 in Providence RI
Ouch!
same here in San Joaquin Valley CA, Stockton, Lodi, and surrounding cities even Sacramento. it sucks getting 16 minute pick-ups and they go 1 mile, I've been complaining to Uber every chance I get. it's just not worth it I may as well flip burgers. the rates should be the same everywhere, it's no wonder they don't have drivers working the cities.
And BTW Uber... I'm taking today off since you F#@K3$ me over yesterday.
here in my city we dont get the cancellation money if the driver cancelled until 10 mins. the 5 mins only applies to passenger cancelations.
most passengers do come out before 5 mins and will rate down if the clock starts upon arrival. they really dont like that.
+Simon Bartlett What?? I never said to start the TRIP... I said start the CLOCK... As in, time them... And cancel.
+Uber Man
yeah realised that after re-watching . enjoying the vids btw! cheers
+Simon Bartlett LOL, yeah do not start the trip. That does get low ratings. Thank you man. Uber on.
In Houston Tx the wait is 10 minutes.... 10 minuets! Rediculous.
+John Lamb Hell no!! That is too long.
The wait is 5 minutes in Houston. I got 11 of them Friday night at the midtown bars.
You are correct sir. Ot use to be 10 minutes but yes now it is 5.
I could do this on 90% of my pax, but sometimes I get decent distance (day time hours)
+JukeBoxJame5 Good point.
I'm a little confused, when you say start the clock do you mean start the trip or just say you have arrived? and when you cancel, do you put "no show"?
+Sal Marone What I meant was start counting up to the 5 min mark, then cancel on them as a no show.
Cool, I figured that after reading more of the comments. thanks for the tip. I appreciate you my brother.
Wow! Thanks for that. Now I know never to call Uber for a ride.
You're most welcome!
how do you now where they are going prior to starting the trip? I start the trip as soon as they open my car door....I heard that starting the trip before they get in is unethical and some passengers rate you low because of it....
+gen genn No, don't start the trip. He's saying once you've arrived, start watching the clock. Once it gets to 5 minutes, cancel it. I do agree with you about not knowing where the passengers are going....it could be a 30 mile trip right?
+gen genn There is no way to know where they are going.
+tipigi Exactly
+gen genn they get in your car ask them the destination if less than a mile kick them out and cancel as no show lol .
K Mathew lol
Uber is only good for the rider and uber. I NEVER accept pool. Uber also fucks you with loop holes, it's happened to me referring a new driver. DRIVERS BEWARE DO NOT REFER NEW DRIVERS. This flooding of areas make you less money! Yeah you get a one time boost but when bonus is gone Uber cares less.
What's your advice on fares that go to Taco Bell and then back home?
+Gutterguy720 Take them.
I had a trip yesterday where I arrived at the pickup location and the rider called at the 4 minute 30 second mark to tell me they were near another building in the apartment complex. At this point am I still required to pick them up?
+Jacob Brown Nope, at 5 mins, you can cancel. However if they call, it seems like the right thing to do, to pick them up.
does cancellations effect your rating?
+zach hatfield No, they do not. If you cancel too much though, Uber will send you a text / email warning.
+Uber Man Then send Uber an email reminding them you're not their employee.
I'm honestly not surprised. :(
Uber Man
I got a warning of in danger of suspension for cancelling trips
Yes, they take it really seriously.
Thoughts?
+UncleHarry 4.6 is EASY to keep. I drive late night, bar rushes / drunks and maintain a 4.8. That is the hardest shift too. It's really not hard.
i just want to had i really hate it when people request a pool ride, i feel like its a rip off to us the drivers, I sometimes ignore those pool pings.
+george gonzalez (blazhinheat79) I believe Pool is horrible for drivers.
+george gonzalez (blazhinheat79) I wish we had that option in Milwaukee - maybe it will eventually come here, I heard about it
+Uber Man oh, it is? then I won't get too excited for it.
Do you have to start the clock? I thought that you could cancel without starting the clock and still get your $6?
+PoliticalPolly You used to, not anymore. That option disappeared. And it's usually $5 before Uber takes their 20%
He means start your smartphone stopwatch app on your clock and when that hits 5 minutes cancel the trip with a NO SHOW reason on the cancel. He DOESN'T mean start the actual Uber trip when you get there. That would give the pissed off passenger the chance to rate you. Cancelling without starting the trip protects you.
the annoying part: they come out at 4 min mark, and only wanted a $3 fare trip
It never fails, 4 minutes on the dot!
+uhsen That pisses me off.
+Ravensofend LOL
when you cancel it ask you for the reason? do you start the trip when you arrive or wait five minutes?
Yes it asks for a reason. You never start the trip without the passenger in the car.
Uber Man thank you
General question for anyone that is willing to answer.
True on the tolls but in this scenario, you'd have to pay before the ride starts, so idk if you still get reimbursed.
randy ,the only downfall is that we have no idea were the pax is going as they dont put they destination on...
+twinsflamuri That happens.
Here in Nashville it is 10 min
if you just turn off your iphone after accepting,..you make an automatic 3.75 now ,..but its risky ,..soon they may catch you ,..
how do you know that it's going to be a mini run? I'm an Uber driver and I never see the destination until after I've picked up the passenger.
Sadly, you can't.
I was about to ask the same thing
he's just saying that in many cases it is and it sometimes isn't worth it to wait 6 7 8 minutes hoping it's a long enough ride to justify waiting.
I am a new driver in a VERY small market, with lots, if not most, are short runs. How do you "start the clock"? Does it start when you arrive and it says "the rider has been notified"? Is there a timer on the screen that I am missing? Thanks in advance
+azherbboy No, no. Start counting to 5 mins, then cancel on them.
Use your smart phones' stopwatch on your clock app
There's a timer now. It counts down as soon as you arrive then starts climbing up to where you can cancel.
Aren't you at all worried that this would drive riders to not use Uber for fear of this.
Cancellation fee is the same as the minimum fare over here =( 20 pesos, not even worth it.
Wow!
+Uber Man thanks here I was thinking I was getting the ratings for the cancelations.. maybe it was just bad timing/coincidence.
Jennifer Garner It really had to be.
Here in Puerto Rico cancellation is $2.25
If you cancell too much though Uber will send you an email bitching about though. Ive had to cancel alot in one crappy area that has alot of 1 ways and no pplace to really hang out and wait.
+tom wells True!!
+Uber Man Do they ever really deactivate you, or just bitch at you through email? With the current fares, I don't want to take any non-surge rides, but I don't want to cancel so much I get de-activated, either. I hate it when I'm sitting right in the middle of a 4X surge or something, and I get a request to leave the surge area to pick up a rider at normal fare.
why do you drive 15 mpg for uberx ? lol you should be xl at least on that
+rivertopia I do well, so I can afford the gas. I just like the car, so do the PAX lol.
I am a new Uber driver. Please tell me how to cancel a trip. I've never noticed a way to do this.
+Stephanie Turner When you get a trip, and accept it, use the options (menu) button, and there should be an option to cancel the trip.
uberman.... thanks for the reply.
+Rick Rozek If Uber is available in your market, then yes, their policy covers your passengers as a commercial policy.
+Jesse Brito No, that is a breach of contract, and I promise you will be deactivated for it.
I need help I'm new and can't find any clear info with questions that I have to how all this works
I'm confused...do you go to the customers house then cancel? or just stay in place, accept, then cancel after 5 min.?
or you mean go ahead and take the customer where they want to go after you hit cancel?
what if the customer comes out in 30 seconds, can you still cancel? I'm unsure what you mean exactly?
Drive to the customer, wait 5, cancel.
cool, but what if they come out in 2?
Then you have to take them.
You just gained a new subscriber. Thanks for the tips. This one, I already do. Lol
Thank you. I appreciate the sub!
Just wanted to say thank you to all the drivers who do this because I end up being the one who picks them up and makes that $15+ instead of $3 and looking like a total impatient douchebag. So thank you for canceling your rides and making it easier for me to have $300+ days ;) keep on keeping on I love that money.
You are aloud to start the clock as soon as you have arrived? I always waited until the passenger was in my car.
+Nate “The Arabian” Steers Start the clock: Means - start counting the 5 minutes then cancel. Do NOT start the TRIP.
Thanks for clarifying. The next question I need to ask is: how do you know if a person is taking a short ride or a long one?
Nate Steers You don't
They take cancellations VERY seriously. You need to go to the local office, if you have one ASAP.
IDK - i rarely have to cancel. I have my own college age children. One is in school otheres graduated in 2010. There are 10 or 20 colleges around me. Never been to taco bell. No 24 hr taco bell here.
+missingremote Nice man!
I figured this out on literally my 2nd day. I actually give them 6 minutes and a phone call though.
