Ever since I switched to only accept Black and SUV requests I noticed people tip more often. I also get asked by passengers how tipping works and my response is always the same " It is not necessary but if you enjoyed your ride feel free to give what you feel is fair. Nine out of ten times those people tip generously.
Yes you may accept cash tips as an independent contracted UBER driver (UBER was sued for over 100 million because of the tip issue )It's illegal for UBER to tell you may not accept tips especially when you're not an UBER employee and you own the car. Likewise with passengers, they may tip the driver. Many passengers think that the tips are included in the fare which is not. I advise drivers to post a sign in the car explaining to the passengers that they have been wrongly informed and they can tip in cash if they wish to do so.
I say "Thank you very much!" and accept the tip. Uber already tells our passengers not to tip so much that hardly anyone ever tips anymore. Working full time 5 or 6 days a week and over 40 hours, the most tips I've gotten totaled $30 for the entire week. I have signs right now, but I'm going to buy a tip jar/box soon. Taxi costs 2.5x the price of an Uber X, which is what my car qualifies for. They're saving tons of money, don't have to deal with a foreigner. choose the music, can charge their phones, etc. Tipping should be for good service, not tied to the price of the ride. Cheap asses lol
"don't have to deal with a foreigner"?? where the heck are you ride sharing? The queues at the airport are full of mohammeds and such. a lot of people from africa as well.
I have a small cup holder in the back of my car where your feet would go in a sedan, one with a tip jar and the other with candy and sign above reading "tipping is greatly appreciated, but not required." typically gets me $2-3 more per trip which really helps me.
I bought an illuminated tip box with 4 USB ports for mobile charging on Etsy and it's like a money printing machine. It includes a nice placard with the Uber-compliant message about gratuity not being required. As soon as I installed it in my car, tipping went from being an occasional rare treat to being a routine part of any given ride. They just put the money in the box without a word. The riders like it (as evidenced by my 4.94 rating) and I don't roll without it.
I never tell them that tipping is not required, unless they ask me how tipping works in Uber, for the rates we are getting in NJ, tipping should be a requirement, sometimes I feel that we are competing with NJ transit to say the least. and don't get me started on the cheap bastards that get driven for more than 30minutes and just leave the car like I should be tipping him for driving him/her home.
screw that. I would say. thank you. end of story --- uber is not special for chasless transaction . it is special because it is cheaper than taxi and car are in better shape. people should tip
I don't drive for Uber or lyft. I tip $15.00 cash 95% of the time. And never under $10.00. I'd rather give $$ to the man trying to make ends meet. Than the long hauling taxi man.
Are you dumb or stupid....the longer a uber driver leaves the app running the more he makes, just like a meter in a taxi. I still use cabs myself because I have my regular cabbies haul me where I have to go. I tip them well and they treat me well and pickup and drop off is always on time early or right on time and they charge me less of a fare then normal so they can pocket more money themselves, therefore taking care of a driver or 2 that can't even afford to go buy a car to work for uber....which in fact has cut taxi drivers out of money but that's a whole different story. With your comment you sound like you broke and yelled and complained about cabbies driving you the long way and you're probably just punching in free promo codes for the uber rides and threw in the I almost always tip 15 dollars but sometime but sometimes 10...hahah and you know the difference between uber riders and lyft as one being broke and not the other hahah...What happened...do you use lyft when you get your govt. check and uber when you spent it all waiting on the next one ...say thank you now to me and all the other tax payers that you learned how to scam 😂 I bet we paid for your wedding too bahaha
Personally in this day and age, with the economy the way it is,when someone is polite, and gets you to your destination safely,a person should feel that a tip is in order,If they can afford to be driven around, they can darn well afford a tip.I just couldn't imagine getting out of that vehicle, especially knowing the struggle, and if they were kind ,and professional, not insisting they accept a tip.I think it's classy that you don't make people feel like it's required, but if someone has any kind of empathy,or a moral compass, they should definitely tip.Restaurants, and waitresses are brutal for that, sometimes they just add their own tip right into the bill, like who do they think they are?,what if the service was not up to my standards? that's up to me to decide, sometimes I tip big,and sometimes not so much,it really does vary on service. When another human being is catering to you,and making you feel special,or are being very kind, then they are going to get rewarded big,and they deserve it,no matter the occupation,i.e driver, waitress, nail technician, and so forth.Anyway,I like your videos, and I like your manners, and I hope you get blessed with some huge tips in the very near future, good luck.
They really need to add a tipping option. Maybe where it lets people leave feedback it can ask for a tip ??? jeez come on uber. lyft cost more and still has a tip option, which most do tip. Afterall, it is the service industry.
+Lili Kuhns Absolutely! That would be the perfect option. we make shit with this. Sure its fun, sure it's flexible, but we need to haul in more especially if it's up to the discretion of the rider. Like us better than a cabbie, let us know with some extra $
I've commented that in the app reviews. I want a way to tip the driver. And if they truly want to make it a cashless transaction then they need to add the option to tip. Customers know it's an OPTION not requirement.
Kind of good topic, however, here is America. Providing Service, safe ride. Of course tip is necessary. Every Passenger who said -Nice Ride, I will give you 5 stars. Always getting 1 star from me. Nice ride- Means at least $5 tip. Good Luck and Uber On
hello uber man. i think if they tip you tell them thank you so much you(customer) r the best. dont even say to customer it is not required coz on next trip to another driver they wont tip tim/her. 99%of customer dont tip you. i m a chicago uber driver, these people here are cheap as fuck. and you dont make that much money at all. never say no to tips...tip box sounds good but your rating is going to down to 1 or 2. dont ask for tips but if they tip you take it with a big smile. my opinion.
I just got a new car through Uber xchange program I will be picking it up tomorrow because I needed 50/100 liability to drive the car off the lot. I will also start driving tomorrow or as soon as Uber starts me on the road😉😉 I live in Chicago I will be driving full time, these videos are like an tutorial for me thanks so much.
+shoshanna strader I wish you the best of luck. I hear Chicago is a very profitable market, you should do well. Congratulations on your new car! What did you get?
tips, are the best thing any uber driver can receive!!! Some nights I make more in cash tips than I do my actual fare!!! Customer service is #1 to getting a tip, i feel, and making the passenger comfortable, IE don't avoid long awkward silences, like Uberman said it's fun, way more fun than I could have ever thought!!! Suit yourself to your primary customer. Mine is college students going out, if your tailoring your rides towards airport pick-ups you need to be dressed very sharply, I can get away with looking like a college kid, and being professional, because of my actions when I pick them up, which makes them feel comfortable taking rides from me and gives me a big advantage over others I feel, also I don't want riders to worry about petty things like safety so although it sounds weird drive grandpa n grandma style when you have passengers, for their safety, personally I drive like a bat out of hell to go get them though after i get that ping :)!
You do realize that telling people or hinting at them that tipping is not required is hurting not only yourself but other drivers as well? Uber is already pre programming it's customers not to tip by telling them it's not required. Why on earth would you not just take the money and say thank you very much? Think about the 1st time rider. Once you tell them they don't have to tip...they will no longer ever tip any future drivers again. They don't want to risk being told by another driver not to tip. It simply will never come up again. You are hurting the uber Driving Community with this advice. My advice to you is take the tip, say thank you, and go about your business
+Uber Man This is true but the fact of the matter is you are programming Uber riders to feel like tipping is not required. Tips mean gas support for drivers, gas support means more ubering, more ubering means more money for uber and it's drivers. My suggestion to anyone reading this is...don't listen to Ubermans advice on this matter. It's hurting all of you....take your tips, express gratitude in return, and leave it at that. NEVER discourage the customer....
ProWrestlingGamer I know this was 2-3 years ago but so true. If they are handing you a tip, just accept it. If you brought up the topic of tipping then it could come off as forcing a tip. Just let it happen and when it does take it.
so it's okay to tip a crazy cab driver that's swirling all over the road and talks in a foreign language the entire time while they drive you like a maniac in their most often gross car, but when you get into someone's personal car that's clean, fresh and the driver takes care of you 'oh, no! I'm not going to tip. it's Uber!'
Assuming you're talking about uber driver in the USA. In the UK it is the complete opposite, minicab and taxi license's are hard to achieve over here, so anyone unqualified without correct working rights, often speaking different languages and being foreign, download the app and start driving.
So far I've only had one person try to tip me, but it turned out she didn't have any cash on her. I told her that I appreciate the gesture, and tipping isn't required for Uber, and to have a nice evening.
I made a little sign the said "Tips not required with Uber! But are appreciated" with a smiley face. My tips went from about $10 a night to $45! it works try it! thx for the idea!
Hi Randy, In a lot of cultures it is very common to bring gifts to a visit, tip for service etc. It would be highly offensive to refuse one of these folk’s tips. Unfortunaley UBER advertises this “no cash” stuff. I’d recommend that a driver get a “square” or some other way to put a tip on a credit card and have that available for the folks that “only have three 100 bills” and aligator arms LOL.
Hey Uber Man, So I am currently building my own tipping box. with a 5 port usb charging station, gum, and water. I will also put signs up that explains that Uber doesnt say you cannot tip, but they do say we can accept them. I think its really going to work well. I will let you know and send you a personal message on how it looks in my car. Its going to be pretty awesome and unique. I dont think that riders can give you bad ratings like this.
Old Stock Canadian Barely. I went from a 4.9 to a 4.6 and stayed around that area. Later I started providing drinks ect. And was consistantly gettig 5 stars. I was also in one of the most expensive areas in the country with one of the highest per mile rates.
I always leave tips for drivers, delivery, bars and restaurants. I know it’s not required any where but it just feels like the right thing to do. I work at a sporting arena in NYC and it’s rare to get a tip in the department I work for. When I do get one I’m always surprised and tell them it’s not necessary but I always take it lol. I thank them with a huge smile and then it’s on to the next guest. I don’t ever expect one but it’s always nice when guest leave me a tip.
I am taxi driver in the uk and the passengers have the option of paying by cash or card and from experience passengers paying by cash are much more likeley to tip. When asked if if tipping is a requirement i always say it is discretionary
NEVER REFUSE A TIP. Only a fool would do such a thing. Tipping makes up for all the shysters and Uber itself ripping you off. Accept graciously and don't EVER refuse.
nuclearsummerr Did I say ask for it? I said never refuse it when offered. Very different. And someone that gets you somewhere safely deserves a gratuity. The world is full of cheap money grubbing penny pinching bastards. Any excuse to not give up a scheckel, huh?
+nuclearsummer "I didn't start using Uber so I could pay MORE money." ... You realize you'd have to give your driver an insane tip ($15-20) just to MATCH the cost of a Taxi, right? Even if you tip $5-10, you still paid less for an Uber than you would've a Taxi. Us drivers pay for our own gas and maintenance, and keep our vehicles clean. That costs a lot of money. The fares being so cheap means it's difficult to earn a decent income after all the expenses, and on top of all of that Uber takes 25% of every single fare... We need tips.
thats funny I 1 star anyone who has a visible tip sign. Uber doesnt want thier customers feeling like they need to tip. I can't believe you do that to people. don't drive for uber if you don't like the fares. don't punish the rider because you have a sense of entitlement.
Great video. I have gotten some big tips. I have gotten several $20 tips. When someone hands me a $20 tip after maybe a $15 trip it almost puts me in to shock lol
Oh, I love you Uberman! You were my "go to" when I first started and still are! Gotta tell you this tho, being a 66 year old Grandmother of 10 is even better than being a sweet young thing as far as tips go!
Uber man, I myself have a tip jar, also from the same guy. And it is true. Now $60 for a Friday is a little low since I do more hours. But on a decent week I can hit $200 in tips easily. While still maintaining a 4.85 rating...
You the best uber man, you are the real deal, God bless you, your uniqueness is appreciated, keep up with the good work, and remember most people like you, don't let the negative comments affect you in any ways, that's what they want a response from you.. Just ignore them, that will show them that their negative comments don't count..
I went to the dollar store and got a plastic tip box, cut a hole in the top and put "thank you for riding with uber" on it and people have thanked me for having it in my car so they could tip.
The solution is rather simple. Organize. ALL Uber drivers kick in $20 per month to support the co-op organizer. The organizer can then stop driving but sets up a communication platform for ALL drivers in each state. Negotiations are then opened with The higher ups. If reasonable rates are not re-administered to the general public the organizer calls a one day work stoppage in one market. Costing Uber or Lyft tens of thousands of dollars. This is not a union because a trust fund must be set up enabling drivers to ask for deductible money should they have an accident. That money will be supplied up to $500 which does two things. It should keep greed in check since the organizer will not be in a big money position The most important is the organizer cannot be corrupt. He cannot be anything other than someone wanting to see justice dealt to all drivers since this service is good overall and is here to stay. Secondly, this keeps the co-op clean and not classified as a union. Uber needs to be smacked around a few times each year until they learn what they should have read about in history books regarding unions and their effectiveness in the early 20th century. No wealthy persons in history ever got there alone. Drivers are in fact: The most important entity in the rideshare business and it's too bad the Travises of the world are blindly leading their companies to destruction.
good one is, "you don't have to, but bless your heart!" but i usually just say "oh, bless your heart, have a great night!" if you say "thank you" you are insinuating that is was expected and not following uber's policy.
I have a rating of 4.96 and have received 2 tips in my life. Uber passenger's are tight arses. 10km trip not required, but $1 for those small trips should be mandatory.
Like the videos... appreciate the tips and tricks. Been driving for Uber for almost 9 mos. Never had a problem, making money, (not tons, but ok)... thanks again!
I tell people when they leave my car I'm giving you 5 stars you're such a cool rider! without saying it there's a quid pro quo there they'll give you 5 stars just about every time
aww, gee. I see what you mean. Any links for the box or anything? I got a square reader to take debit. I'm driving for lyft. Figure, I might as well, get a tip from these people, after all, what are the odds of driving the same person twice?
pshhh I don't follow uber's "protocol" when it comes to tipping or protecting myself. if someone tips me, I just graciously accept and tell them to have a great day, rest of their vacation, safe travels, etc.
I just started thinking about putting a TIP sign in my car aswell cause most people would TIP you and this seems like a Great Concept but I also want to have water bottles supplied chargers and GUM to get Great TIPS
Tip policy at Uber has been updated after a trial, I believe. IT IS NOT FORBIDDEN to accept a tip. The driver share of the fare barely covers for the car depreciation and maintenance, so if a driver performs well (above and beyond just taking you safely place A to B), they surely have earned a tip!.. Like with any other service!
If you are given a tip, just accept it and say thank you. No need to let them know it's unnecessary, that makes them feel like you're ungrateful. even Uber says if you're tipped, go ahead and accept it.
Drove a Lyft passenger to Magic Mtn from LAX. Over 1 hr on the road as a 1 way trip. Return waa little more than 1hr. Guess what??? NO TIP. I think the industry has "Brainwashed" the public that tipping is not required, as it is built into the pricing. Would they take a taxi and NOT give the driver a tip? Probably not. Would they go to a restaurant and not leave a tip? Probably not. SO WHY DO THEY TREAT US WITH SO MUCH DISRESPECT?
I've got much more info on Uber from UM than the company. Thank you Randy. I did not drive the first part of this year while Uber Eats was introduced. In LA,Ca. It can easily be a time eater. Very seldom due they tip and many times they expect office delivery which brings in parking issues and more time. I feel tipping should always be involved when someone is handling my personal food.UM what is your position and knowledge on this new feature.
UberEats is not in my market as of yet. I feel the customer could meet you at the door, especially if it requires you to pay for parking, or around the block. Tipping should 100% be given if you provided timely service. I will try UberEats when it comes to my area. I've heard many people say it is working out very well for them. You're more than welcome, I love helping when I can.
Have you heard of the legal battle between Uber and Massachusetts drivers over tips? Apparently, the drivers won and are allowed to put tip signs in their cars.
not a driver but thinking about it. But I've been around a rodeo or two. I would respectfully suggest that you physically take the tip in your hand while 1st Thanking them, and 2: explaining that Tips Are Not Required, but really appreciated. Hold your hand still holding the money and smile. I'd bet that 99.9% of the time anybody with half a brain would not take the money back. Ron
Yeah I def tip if the driver gives great service. I work as a waitress and I know that I appreciate tips because I do my best to give extraordinary service. I recognize others working a service job and acknowledge effort. Human decency is cool
As someone who has used Uber many times (and is not a driver; not sure why I'm watching this, actually... lol), I can say that if someone said "No" and put their hand out to stop me, I'd be inclined to say "Ok" and take my money back. If someone did the alternative offered by Uber Man, I'd say "Please, take it" and give them the tip. Saying "No" and making a refusing gesture is a bad idea.
Don't understand Uber's attitude to tipping especially in USA. Surely having tipping as an option is reasonable especially in a service industry. Uber should include a tipping option in the app. I'm a taxi driver in Sydney and we have taxi apps that display an optional tip incentive when job is flashed. Customer rationalizes that by offering a tip their job will be quickly filled. Of course the surge is an incentive on UberX but that is not controlled by the customer.
in this industry were I average after only uber`s fees and gas about $9 to $10 an hour working 9 to 11 hours shifts , if I get $20 or $40 in tips ,it represents 2 or 4 hours or more of saving my ass of painful driving!... I will be looking in to this!... like you said ,if it does not affect the ratings ,why not? Thanks again for great video!
Consider yourself lucky! If the driver refuses a tip, he probably has parts falling off his car and is putting you at risk. You all people that don't tip the driver...I laugh my ass off when the car falls apart at 70mph and slams your cheap ass into a cement culvert LOL!
FUCk-um....I just started driving 2 days ago, I drove my ass off (more than 25 riders) but didn't get a single tip. I am not gonna give any more 5 star ratings if I don't get a tip. I would support a revolt against uber if they don't start to say "please tip your driver" in their adds.
In the DC market I guess gratuity is fixed into the app?? My customer asked me if we had the same thing in the chicago Market. I told her no (to the best of my knowledge it isn't) she handed we a 20 on the spot. I never ask for tips nor do I decline them if offered. Gas $$$$$
I just say that is not necessary to the tune of a 55 dollar tip on a 40 dollar fare last night I tried to refuse more than once but they wouldnt hear it as I got them out of a huge bind. I basically delivered car keys and I didnt have a rider I just took the keys from his wife at their home to a guy that lost his at midnight and had no way home. I would not do the tip box. If you do a great job people will tip you is what I am learning. Got a 20 dollar tip tonight for a 5 dollar fare.
How about a receptacle with a note on front " Tips are not included, they're not required, but they are appreciated "For your convenience a Card Reader is available"
This is the biggest drawback for driving for UBER and the whole situation has me baffled. Why won't UBER add a tip option to their application ?. They say that it is inclusive, but we know that it is not, and if it was they have no business taking a percentage of it, which is why they are in court and apparently losing as a result of it. If the class action suits are ultimately successful, the court could very well order them to pay back retroactively for all the stolen tips. What has me baffled though, is why UBER is so stubborn on this issue. What would it cost them to add a tip option ? Do they really think they would lose market share as a result of this option ?. With rates being less then bus or Subway fare in many cities, I do not how understand how adding a 10 to 15% gratuity would hurt them at all. It would certainly help the drivers. So what is UBER's reason for not doing it ? Would love feedback. Incidentally, for those that might now be aware, Passengers are absolutely 100% convinced that they are NOT suppose to tip. If you are getting even 10% of your fares tipping, you are doing well. I have had passengers that I have befriended, made real long lasting friendships. They might praise you up and down, and you might appear as their best man at their wedding, or meet your future wife, yet at the end of the ride, no tip is forthcoming ! Why ? Because they are told not too ! and it feels awkward and inappropriate asking them, which I never do.
I was tipped once so far, but I don't know about getting the car full of candy or a jar tip. I only carry water, mint gum and a little trash compartment I posted that on the R3Z Solutions Facebook cause I don't want to make the Uber guys mad at me on the Uber network.
XEmeralDQueenX I have no water, mints or any other goodies for the pax and my rating has stay at 4.9, just be polite, professional and take them to their destination in a timely manner, unless Uber starts footing the bill for goodies then my pax are not getting any.
***** Hey YoYo thanks sorry I though calling you Yoyo was easirer lol, I'm a Lyft driver and sometimes they promote that we give candy and water and all that crazy stuff but I don't go crazy about it just a little if I can but I agree with all the tips you have said here thanks :)
XEmeralDQueenX at the end of every trip tell the pax they are getting 5 stars, you'll see that they get a smile on their faces and your rating starts going up, I know it works because when I just tell them "have a nice day" my ratings starts to go down, the only time that this works less than 50% of the time is when I get drunk people.
Seriously if EVERY Uber driver just SWITCHED over to LYFT (trust that I LOVE UBER) there would be NO one to pick up pax with UBER and they would be FORCED to add a tipping option....those are the FACTS. Anyway we all know no one is going to do that so there you have it.
I do not understand where the concept of tips came from but I do believe in tips. Uber and Lyft sure are nice, convenient, cheaper than Taxi but $20.00 Ride to me your not spending maybe more than 2 or 3 dollars on gas let alone 20. I mean where does it end people at restaurants want tips, bell boy wants tips, door man tips, paper boy or girl tips, uber and Lyft tips. where do we draw the line what next are we supposed to tip the mailman, the UPS driver, policeman, firefighters heck no body tips me and I do customer service.
before you say it puts wear and tear on your car, you chose the job knowing this going in and if Uber and Lyft did not exist you're going to drive around regardless and put wear and tear on your car. and also you can get mileage, I am sure there are other tax deductions. when I experience and Uber or Lyft driver bragging I am inclined to believe they must make plenty of money already.
Uber drivers expect a tip but there’s no option for adding a tip to the credit card. The appeal of Uber (to me) is I don’t have to have cash. All the taxis have the electronic tip option so this is why I don’t ride Uber. I often don’t carry cash.
There is an electronic tipping option, and has been for several months now. After the ride has ended, the rider is given the option to tip at the screen where they rate the driver.
UM, I think you may need to update this video since the lawsuit; I have not had time to read it, but some things change based on the lawsuit in San Fran.
So first off, thanx for ur vidz..Im registered and ready to go. Wanted to get prepared before I jump in. I drove a taxi but this is so different (thankfully) lol! I know u don't want to plug anyone but I would love to get my hands on that tip/snack/charging box. I think its horrible for UBER to try and discourage ppl from tipping! I guess because they aren't benefiting...SMH...anyway...drive safe and thanks again!
Ever since I switched to only accept Black and SUV requests I noticed people tip more often. I also get asked by passengers how tipping works and my response is always the same " It is not necessary but if you enjoyed your ride feel free to give what you feel is fair. Very nice!!!
I find it redundant when a company tells you to tell people tips are not a requirement.
Tipping by definition is optional.
+TheMovement85 True.
And In The Other Hand The Are Restaurants Who Call The Police On You Because You Refuse To Give Them A 20% Tip!!!!!
+TheMovement85 Isn't it mandatory in the U.S. to tip on restaurants?
Alfredo Z. No although some restaurants would try to add a tip to the bill for large party's of 10 or more but it isn't a law.
Yes you may accept cash tips as an independent contracted UBER driver (UBER was sued for over 100 million because of the tip issue )It's illegal for UBER to tell you may not accept tips especially when you're not an UBER employee and you own the car. Good to hear man!
Michael hi could you show a pic on how you have the tip jar
I bought an illuminated tip box with 4 USB ports for mobile charging on Etsy and it's like a money printing machine. "Tipping is not required"
Fuck that shit. I'm taking the tip whether they like it or not. I DESERVED IT. PERIOD.
icantw8 Good deal man
Hells yes
+icantw8 haha yes.
+icantw8 Deserve? No. Earn? Yes.
no you dont
who doesn't want tips? seriously? lol.
me
I don't want tips either.
I always say “Oh thank you, you didn’t have to do that” ......very personal, very polite, and very grateful. .........works like a charm.
Tipping is not required but I sure do appreciate it thanks! Boom simple
Tank0923 true that
I don't drive for Uber or lyft. I tip $15.00 cash 95% of the time. And never under $10.00. I'd rather give $$ to the man trying to make ends meet. Than the long hauling taxi man.
We appreciate that. Thank you.
Bless you, I started driving for uber 2 days ago, I hustled and drove more than 25 separate rider and didn't get a single tip, disheartening.
Subdude that's uber and uber customer's. you should try Lyft. at least there a tip option in the app. no option with Uber.
Uber is scam try Lyft and soon Juno. Juno is all about the driver not all about the venture capital overlords.
When another human being is catering to you,and making you feel special,or are being very kind, then they are going to get rewarded big,and they deserve it,no matter the occupation,i.e driver, waitress, nail technician, and so forth.Anyway,I like your videos, and I like your manners, and I hope you get blessed with some huge tips in the very near future, good luck.
sunnydayforever1 Thank you so much for this great comment. It's one of my favorites :)
: )
They really need to add a tipping option. Maybe where it lets people leave feedback it can ask for a tip ??? jeez come on uber. lyft cost more and still has a tip option, which most do tip. Afterall, it is the service industry.
+Lili Kuhns Absolutely! That would be the perfect option. we make shit with this. Sure its fun, sure it's flexible, but we need to haul in more especially if it's up to the discretion of the rider. Like us better than a cabbie, let us know with some extra $
no they don't we tip for everything now, just add it into the damn price, tired of having to guess or tip for everything.
I've commented that in the app reviews. I want a way to tip the driver. And if they truly want to make it a cashless transaction then they need to add the option to tip. Customers know it's an OPTION not requirement.
Do you tip your kid's teacher? The teacher's doing a service. Tipping should be outlawed and everyone should get a fairer wage and that's that.
Lili Kuhns iam moving to lyft I hate the way uber treat there drivers😨 plus there rate fare is very low 😨
If you have a tip box, I would probably have some words on the top saying " Tips are not required, but very much appreciated" Thank You
Kind of good topic, however, here is America.
99%of customer dont tip you. i m a chicago uber driver, these people here are cheap as fuck. and you dont make that much money at all. never say no to tips...tip box sounds good but your rating is going to down to 1 or 2. dont ask for tips but if they tip you take it with a big smile. my opinion.
+dana pat I am an uber driver in Illinois/Chicago as well. I get all my tips from people in the burbs not the city.
+TheMovement85 city people r too demanding
+TheMovement85 where in the burbs do you drive?
Juan Saldana basically every burb. In one night I can end up in 5 different county's.
2:01 Video start
+georgyorgy2 Thanks, you saved me 1:15 minutes of my life. Technically you partially saved my life. :)
Mine is college students going out, if your tailoring your rides towards airport pick-ups you need to be dressed very sharply, I can get away with looking like a college kid, and being professional, because of my actions when I pick them up, which makes them feel comfortable taking rides from me and gives me a big advantage over others I feel, also I don't want riders to worry about petty things like safety so although it sounds weird drive grandpa n grandma style when you have passengers, for their safety, personally I drive like a bat out of hell to go get them though after i get that ping :)!
dude...u rock...stay uber strong
mcfirebug Thanks man, you as well!
+ProWrestlingGamer Well, we are all entitled to our opinions
+Uber Man This is true but the fact of the matter is you are programming Uber riders to feel like tipping is not required.
Tips mean gas support for drivers, gas support means more ubering, more ubering means more money for uber and it's drivers. My suggestion to anyone reading this is...don't listen to Ubermans advice on this matter.
It's hurting all of you....take your tips, express gratitude in return, and leave it at that.
NEVER discourage the customer....
+ProWrestlingGamer good advice I totally agree with you
+Butterfly Kisses lol thanks
ProWrestlingGamer I know this was 2-3 years ago but so true. If they are handing you a tip, just accept it. If you brought up the topic of tipping then it could come off as forcing a tip. Just let it happen and when it does take it.
so it's okay to tip a crazy cab driver that's swirling all over the road and talks in a foreign language the entire time while they drive you like a maniac in their most often gross car, but when you get into someone's personal car that's clean, fresh and the driver takes care of you 'oh, no! I'm not going to tip. it's Uber!'
That about sums it up!
Assuming you're talking about uber driver in the USA. In the UK it is the complete opposite, minicab and taxi license's are hard to achieve over here, so anyone unqualified without correct working rights, often speaking different languages and being foreign, download the app and start driving.
This was interesting. I like this guy. Nice & wholesome. Too honest for words, which is rare these days.
LOL
So far I've only had one person try to tip me, but it turned out she didn't have any cash on her. I told her that I appreciate the gesture, and tipping isn't required for Uber, and to have a nice evening.
+Sean Dudley Well played!!
I made a little sign the said "Tips not required with Uber! But are appreciated" with a smiley face. My tips went from about $10 a night to $45! it works try it! thx for the idea!
+Tondog65 Nice!! :)
Hi Randy,
In a lot of cultures it is very common to bring gifts to a visit, tip for service etc.
Hey Uber Man,
So I am currently building my own tipping box. with a 5 port usb charging station, gum, and water.
I'm excited to see it!
With my tip sign i have brought home over 150 in tips on a sat night.
Daaaaamn!!!!! Very nice!!!
James White but did it hurt your ratings?
Old Stock Canadian Barely. I went from a 4.9 to a 4.6 and stayed around that area. Later I started providing drinks ect. And was consistantly gettig 5 stars. I was also in one of the most expensive areas in the country with one of the highest per mile rates.
What drinks do you provide?
Adriana Cervantes Just water I would never do soda or juice becuase it stains
"Thank you! Tips is not necessary but it is very much appreciated"
Dude please quit apologizing! You don't need to make any excuses, you're doing a fine job. LOL
+Rusty Shackleford I'm sorry lol.. JK JK JK Thank you.
I am taxi driver in the uk and the passengers have the option of paying by cash or card and from experience passengers paying by cash are much more likeley to tip.
When asked if if tipping is a requirement i always say it is discretionary
+richies quest That's pretty cool. We do not have that over here.
Thanks for your tips mate. I'm an uber driver here in Sydney Australia. Been driving for 3 months. Love it! Just joined your fb network. ;)
Adrian McHarg Shout out to the land down under mate! Happy to have you!
NEVER REFUSE A TIP. Only a fool would do such a thing. Tipping makes up for all the shysters and Uber itself ripping you off. Accept graciously and don't EVER refuse.
Any Uber driver who asks for a tip gets a one star rating. Sorry dawg. That's life. I didn't start using Uber so I could pay MORE money.
nuclearsummerr Did I say ask for it? I said never refuse it when offered. Very different. And someone that gets you somewhere safely deserves a gratuity. The world is full of cheap money grubbing penny pinching bastards. Any excuse to not give up a scheckel, huh?
+nuclearsummerr You should take a bus. I one star anyone who doesnt tip me
+nuclearsummer "I didn't start using Uber so I could pay MORE money." ...
Ghislaine Hiers Good to hear! Thanks!
Uber has launched tipping in Virginia Beach today !!!!!
I got the notification today. For UBER and Uber eats
Yes sir! 121 cities today :)
LOL i get a advertisement for Lyft on your shirt for this video
A. Cobian That is too funny!! WOW...
+miguel rocha Cool man!
I got my first $5 tip the other day and I was happy to take it!...LOL!!
Niiice!!
We love you too,! Randy..... your very Helful an informative on all having TO do with uBER
Thank you. :)
You can say 'tip is not a requirement but thanks very much.....{take the tip}
You got it!
You the best uber man, you are the real deal, God bless you, your uniqueness is appreciated, keep up with the good work, and remember most people like you, don't let the negative comments affect you in any ways, that's what they want a response from you.. Just ignore them, that will show them that their negative comments don't count..
Juan Vargas Thanks, I appreciate that.
I went to the dollar store and got a plastic tip box, cut a hole in the top and put "thank you for riding with uber" on it and people have thanked me for having it in my car so they could tip.
+james Dodge Nice!!
Q: How do I tip you?
A: $$$ Throw your driver a buck, or ten.
missingremote Right? LOL
Drivers are in fact: The most important entity in the rideshare business and it's too bad the Travises of the world are blindly leading their companies to destruction.
good one is, "you don't have to, but bless your heart!" but i usually just say "oh, bless your heart, have a great night!" if you say "thank you" you are insinuating that is was expected and not following uber's policy.
djmarkcotter Good point.
+Dean Pattison You're welcome. Thank you for watching, and commenting. I hope you continue to be profitable. #UberOn
I tell people when they leave my car I'm giving you 5 stars you're such a cool rider! without saying it there's a quid pro quo there they'll give you 5 stars just about every time
zenguy That is a great way to get 5* ratings!!
'hi uber man, i wanted to see what the tip box looked like, that sounds like an amazing investment, and a good invention
PlanetJohn I changed my mind on it, because it is a very rough box for $50.
+FrankJDM Good idea!
Uber Man yeah brother make that lil extra cash to pay off Taxes or wear and tear on your car
Looking back, I do agree with you today.
Agree 100 percent Randy. Being Polite will go a long way. I just say "you do not have to tip me." Atleast I follow Uber's Policy.
+Steve Finestone I agree. I wish I knew why it was this way.
Great Video..... Your right about what to do. It's very professional. Your Uber Driver Friend.
Thanks, I appreciate the comment.
How about a video about what you think about people who call pax before pick up to see how far they are going.
James Pitts You bet!
Have you heard of the legal battle between Uber and Massachusetts drivers over tips? Apparently, the drivers won and are allowed to put tip signs in their cars.
I did hear about that. Very cool story!!
According to Shakespeare Oberon is king of the Fairies so I think 'Stay Uber Strong is better '
not a driver but thinking about it.
Ron
That is great advise.
Thanks but I'll just not tip.
Yeah I def tip if the driver gives great service. I work as a waitress and I know that I appreciate tips because I do my best to give extraordinary service. I recognize others working a service job and acknowledge effort. Human decency is cool
That is so good to hear! Most do not tip us at all.
+ThatUncutRaw Thank you.
Of course the surge is an incentive on UberX but that is not controlled by the customer.
leroyybrown I couldn't agree with you more brother.
in this industry were I average after only uber`s fees and gas about $9 to $10 an hour working 9 to 11 hours shifts , if I get $20 or $40 in tips ,it represents 2 or 4 hours or more of saving my ass of painful driving!... I will be looking in to this!... like you said ,if it does not affect the ratings ,why not? Thanks again for great video!
+Frank C You're most welcome.
I've taken 4 rides as a passenger, and not one of the drivers told me tipping wasn't necessary when I gave them a tip.
Consider yourself lucky! If the driver refuses a tip, he probably has parts falling off his car and is putting you at risk. You all people that don't tip the driver...I laugh my ass off when the car falls apart at 70mph and slams your cheap ass into a cement culvert LOL!
I would personally always give a tip. They didn't have to accept the ride, and I like to show gratitude
FUCk-um....I just started driving 2 days ago, I drove my ass off (more than 25 riders) but didn't get a single tip. I am not gonna give any more 5 star ratings if I don't get a tip. I would support a revolt against uber if they don't start to say "please tip your driver" in their adds.
no clue how i ended up on your video, but very entertaining!
Her name was probably Esmeralda Villalobos :D
I'm thinking if a passenger offers a tip something like "Are you sure? I'm happy with a positive review." would be appropriate. thoughts?
MikeM8891 I love it!!
In the DC market I guess gratuity is fixed into the app?? My customer asked me if we had the same thing in the chicago Market. I told her no (to the best of my knowledge it isn't) she handed we a 20 on the spot. I never ask for tips nor do I decline them if offered. Gas $$$$$
chad mackey The tip Is not built in to the app. Not at all.
Very nice!! Thanks for sharing that experience!
.
It's not a requirement but UBER should allow tips just like Lyft does. STOP BEING CHEAP and tip the driver.
me again, lol power watching all your videos!!
LOL Thank you!
How about a receptacle with a note on front " Tips are not included, they're not required, but they are appreciated "For your convenience a Card Reader is available"
+Tricia Leone It could work.
They don't day it's included anymore (cause its not and that's a flat out lie) now they say it's ""not required ""
They don't **say** it's included anymore
2015 Chevy Cruz through the xchange finance incentive they have available
+shoshanna strader Nice!!
I was tipped once so far, but I don't know about getting the car full of candy or a jar tip. I only carry water, mint gum and a little trash compartment I posted that on the R3Z Solutions Facebook cause I don't want to make the Uber guys mad at me on the Uber network.
XEmeralDQueenX Post away! They can deal with it, or we will deal with them! :)
XEmeralDQueenX I have no water, mints or any other goodies for the pax and my rating has stay at 4.9, just be polite, professional and take them to their destination in a timely manner,
unless Uber starts footing the bill for goodies then my pax are not getting any.
XEmeralDQueenX
at the end of every trip tell the pax they are getting 5 stars, you'll see that they get a smile on their faces and your rating starts going up, I know it works because when I just tell them "have a nice day" my ratings starts to go down, the only time that this works less than 50% of the time is when I get drunk people.
WHATS GOING ON UBERMAN? UBERX MAN HERE!
I think people know it's not required, that's why they don't tip. I read from Uber that drivers can accept tips at their own discretion.
I do not understand where the concept of tips came from but I do believe in tips. Uber and Lyft sure are nice, convenient, cheaper than Taxi but $20.00 Ride to me your not spending maybe more than 2 or 3 dollars on gas let alone 20. I mean where does it end people at restaurants want tips, bell boy wants tips, door man tips, paper boy or girl tips, uber and Lyft tips. where do we draw the line what next are we supposed to tip the mailman, the UPS driver, policeman, firefighters heck no body tips me and I do customer service.
before you say it puts wear and tear on your car, you chose the job knowing this going in and if Uber and Lyft did not exist you're going to drive around regardless and put wear and tear on your car. and also you can get mileage, I am sure there are other tax deductions. when I experience and Uber or Lyft driver bragging I am inclined to believe they must make plenty of money already.
by the way I do take bus and trolley most of the time but sometimes Uber and Lyft are necessary to get me from point A to B.
LOL
Uber drivers expect a tip but there’s no option for adding a tip to the credit card. The appeal of Uber (to me) is I don’t have to have cash. All the taxis have the electronic tip option so this is why I don’t ride Uber. I often don’t carry cash.
There is an electronic tipping option, and has been for several months now. After the ride has ended, the rider is given the option to tip at the screen where they rate the driver.
UM, I think you may need to update this video since the lawsuit; I have not had time to read it, but some things change based on the lawsuit in San Fran.
I made an updated video long ago. Thanks.
Tips are a form of thank you and even thou Uber ask drivers not to accept tips, then perhaps Uber should reduce their commission.
Hey UberMan thanks for the videos (:
erik fiallos Hey Erik, you are VERY welcome. Thank you for watching!
+Robin Planer Thank you Robin. Please, keep me posted on how you are doing, and how you like Uber vs Taxi. :)
+Uber Man why are you so against telling us about where online to get the tip/ charging box? I don't get it. don't be greedy with knowledge
Good commonsense advice as usual. The kind you needn't hesitate to get some financial benefit with. Your original catchphrase uber on sounds better.
Ayad Saleh Duly noted, and I will return to it! :) Thank you.
Uber just changed their policy and now allows tipping through the app and they don't take a commission out of it
Thanks for the video! 🚙🚗
William Wilson You are welcome. Thanks for watching.
cool UM thanks for the help and hints.
+Ron Petersen You are welcome. Have a great day!
Why does uber get a cut of the cancellation ride when the rider never got in the car?
+Richard Rosette Because they make the rules. :(
What about using square for customers who want a cashless tipping option?
Interesting idea...
Hi great videos. Can you tell me how it works with has for your car. Is that out of pocket?
+Linda GonzaLez Thank you. I appreciate the compliment. As for gas, that is paid for 100% out of our pockets.
OK thanks
