Last year was a really tough year for me. This album (WHERE THE LIGHT SHINES THROUGH) was, in many ways, an attempt to find a path towards hope, armed with the flashlight of melody and lyric. “I Won’t Let You Go” is a song that faces the darkness head on. When this song was released, I was 13 years old and felt like my world was crashing down around me. My best friends were moving away, both my brothers had gone to college, and I had become accustomed to a feeling of emptiness and being emotionally numb. I remember I would listen to this song (among others) over and over attempting to find comfort. I knew what was missing in my life, but I didn't know how to get it. I had prayed the sinners prayer as a child, but I did not mean it or understand it at all. I suffered from doubt and fear for many years concerning my salvation.
3 months later, after a conversation with a World Changers adult participant and another conversation with my mom, I became a Christian.
Six years later, I now see this song for what it was. I thought it was simply a song to bring me comfort, and now I see that it was God crying out for me to turn to Him. To just trust Him.
And as I sit here with tears in my eyes, I can honestly tell you it was all true.

As an ex christian who is a lesbian and who has been abandoned by every christian. This song gives me hope that maybe that unconditionnal love is True... even if not found in the church, maybe in a God... the one who never left me. Not the one they preach though. The God that you are talking about - His name is Jesus and He came to reconcile us back to the Father. He came to set us free from our sins, not so that we would continue to live in it but to be free from sin! This is where holiness and righteousness comes in without which we can not see God! We all need to be born again, to die to self so that we can become His child and live IN Him, not live for ourselves. Please turn toward Him - He is patiently waiting for you!

I used to struggle with suicide too. I was very confused on my identity. From the outside my life looked perfect. Though on the inside I needed true joy and peace. My suggestion is that you read the Bible. That is how I came to know my Father. I now know true joy and I have prayed for you. I want you to know that God is actually real. And touch yourself. The God who created the entire universe loves YOU. And God sent His son to die so YOU can have a relationship with Him.
I first happened to stumble upon this song a couple of days after I tried to kill myself and got discharged from the hospital. I felt so much silence from God and found him very useless. After my suicide attempt I wasn’t motivated to talk to God either. I was going to try to die soon enough, but this song. Oh this song.

I appreciate that while God never promised things would be easy if we believed in him--quite the opposite actually--he promises time and time again, in the Bible and through words he inspires people to share in song or word of mouth--that he will never, ever leave us if we acknowledge we've done wrong, that we need him, and that he paid for all our bad choices.
He swore he would walk with us through the darkest moments if we'll just let him be there with us.
I've done my share of yelling at God, crying to God, wondering why he made me a certain way or why he lets truly and deeply evil things happen to helpless children or to people who are loved and needed. I don't always get answers. Unfortunately God isn't just some magic giftbox I can open up and receive exactly what I want to make me feel better or to make the bad stuff in life go away. But he is a PERSON with such an incredible PERSONALITY. I've laughed with God. God has teased me and made me smile when my heart was broken. He's helped me carry on when I felt I just couldn't. And every time I've felt alone and called to him in a lonely dark room, he's always shown up in some way, right when I need it.
One of those ways was with this song. It still nearly brings me to tears when I hear these words.
The Bible has this verse where Jesus essentially says that the people who follow him, who have a relationship with him, will recognize his voice. I recognize God's voice. I know he used this song to speak directly to me, and I'm so glad he's used it to speak to so many other people too.
I hope the things I write, say, and do can help bring God's loving voice to people who need it too. Especially to those who are closed-off and who think God is nothing more than a fairytale.
Funny thing is, isn't there always some sort of truth in a fairytale? A life lesson? A truth about life? And don't we ever wonder where all this truth, where wisdom comes from? How chaos could have made the order of a human body come to life?
God is real. And God loves you like crazy. He wants you to get to know him. I know that because I wouldn't be here today if he weren't. He's saved me from myself too many times to count, in so many different ways. But more than that... my imagination can never comfort me. I can run away from my problems using my imagination, but it can never take me from a place of bawling my eyes out tears... to hearing God tell me, "I love you..." and feeling so comforted that it stops my tears. No amount of "fooling myself" or telling myself words of affirmation can do that. Only someone outside me can... Only God can.

Throughout these 2 years (2017|2018) I've been dealing with "depression" and many health issues at this young age. I seemed to be attacked by the enemy as I tried to draw closer to God. but what God taught me is that he'll never give up on me no matter what I do... honestly NO MATTER WHAT I DO...and the same is for you. God is willing to give you change after chance AFTER CHANCE! we fail many times but God is still there and if you feel like he's left you or forgotten about you HE HASN'T...as long as your heart is still beating you still have a chance with God and his great mercy. Yes I'm still dealing with my health and all these things to worry about but as long as you know God is on your side nothing can hold you back... keep pressing and praying and wait on God... it'll be worth it😊

When I was young I really didn’t like my life. I felt like I was overweight for my age and that I was a very horrible person. I hated going to church and didn’t care about worshipping. Then one day while at church I felt a great presence beside me. I knew it was god. He spoke to me and told me that if I prayed and worshiped to him that I would be freed of sins and that my life would never have any evil. I then always felt god near me. I can actually feel him right now. He is always communicating with me. He gave me a new outlook to like and now god is my savior and god will never let me go. Thank you all and have a good life under god.
I found this song during a time when I was in very deep darkness after my mother passed. During a time when God was telling me "if you trust me I will never leave you." That he would always be with me... year and a half later I've lost my father (our relationship completely went down the drain yesterday) and despite the pain I'm feeling theres peace. Rodolfo Albuquerque I had a similar experience as a child and I had a real life encounter with god . He held me in his arms and said I was going to be in this bad place for a short time , but he was with me and always would be . That couple of seconds is all I need to get me through hard times . I also remember what he has brought me through. God doesn't cause the bad to happen . Evil comes from the devil . God knows and is a loving father, who wants us to use those experiences to help and encourage others and show them god's love

God gave me this song in my dreams the other night. I paid attention to lyrics and amazing how God used this song to speak to me at the right time.
I found this song only a couple weeks ago and already treasure it in my heart on so many levels.
One, the footprints in the sand in this video. One day, in 2015, I told someone a joke about quicksand. And for the rest of the year, it was like our kind of an inside joke. But that Christmas it turned into kind of a source of comfort. Because that Christmas fear began to rise up in me and I panicked so bad and that same someone let me call him Papa for awhile when I needed it because I don't really have a father apart from God Himself mostly. The one thing that Papa gave me for Christmas was this motion type picture where as you walk past it, it changes a little bit. It's a picture of footprints in the sand and when you walk past it the water washes away the footprints from the sand. The word below the picture says FOOTPRINTS. It is very comforting thing I have since I feel like I accidently broke that friendship because of panicking. I don't know..
Second, the words, "I Won't Let You Go." I have so many memories of people letting me go. So many very important people too. People who really should have been there in my life or I felt like they should be there in my life, they simply seem to...leave, almost fighting to get away from me and I'm really not sure why. And one day in the last year, I came home to my "Mama and Daddy in Christ" and told them of a conversation with one of my relatives and my "Daddy in Christ" (I don't really call them this), he countered what they said because it was quite mean and unnecessary, then he add, "We won't let you go."

2016 was a very hard year for me. I had many complications after having our 4th child. Lots of unanswered questions, lots of anxiety, depression, health issues, pain....I was scared, confused, felt so alone even though I was surrounded by supportive family and friends. Through it all I continually told God I would trust Him. No. Matter. What. I felt like He was silent, but I knew He was with me every step of the way. I just needed to walk through the darkness and learn....learn to be strong, to be brave, to have faith, hope, and determination. During that season I grew so much. I felt like I could let God have complete control over everything. My life, my family, EVERYTHING. He gives and takes away and I am ok with that. 2017 was the complete opposite of 2016. When I heard this song, it was like my soul had written each word and I was hearing it being sung back to me. Life seems so much brighter, more adventurous, free, and peaceful now. Im at struggle right now with a lot of my past. I had no idea Id find this song let alone believe just before I found this song I prayed to god and asked him to help me change who I am because sometimes he changes whats in our paths for a reason and although it maybe painful and confusing I asked him to lift it up and take it in his hands. To help me be stronger through this time and what better way then to hear him speak through these words sung by Swithfoot .
