  • Kirtan is fully participatory, call-and-response devotional chant. A live kirtan is at once ecstatic, contemplative and - most of all - playfully improvised. Enjoy singing along
    with this music!
Kirtan Rabbi: Live! was recorded after sundown on June 14, 2008 at Congregation Bnai Jeshurun in New York City. Unless otherwise noted, all melodies are by Rabbi Andrew Hahn. The words are drawn from the Hebrew Bible and the
siddur (the traditional Jewish prayerbook), as well as from the language of kabbalah (Jewish mysticism).
Filmed by Charlie Steiner (with Doron Avizov)
    Produced and Edited by www.dolcefilms.com

Nothing wrong with this, Jews have always adapted melodies and styles from surrounding peoples. If you are frum and don't like this, I would hate to tell you that some of your own melodies are straight from the Russian Orthodox Church!

Wonderful. Praying to Hashem is already filled with joy and happiness and I think this form of prayer even goes beyond that. Amen

I love it. He is joyously worshipping creator in whatever way, shape and form he wishes. Who is anyone to judge anyone about how one wishes to worship their god? Keep on rocking on Kirtan Rabbi. Way to go.

Pratically the same as they do on Hare Krishna Movement or other movements from India.
Good idea you had! Kirtan is a nectar!

Wow, really surprised at the Jewish people making so many narrow minded, dogmatic comments!! Love Kirtan Rabbi, very ecstatic kirtan! It's about knowing, not about rules and regulations or what is written. What is written is for those who do not know and about teaching them to know.

Wow to me, they look very connected to Hashem! And, more importantly, they're joyous to be connected to Him.

+macaron28 I agree the dancing is hippy, but let me correct you. the music is not hindi, its klezmer, which is a jewish specific category of its own. and the clothing is just as much jewish as it is hindi, they are both middle eastern based religions, its just that jews dont typically dress that way anymore, where as others have maintained it.

you shall not subvert the rights of your needy in their disputes. Keep far from a false charge; do not bring death on those who are innocent and in the right, for i will not acquit the wrongdoer. Do not take bribes, for bribes blind the clear-sighted and upset the pleas of those who are in the right.

It's funny how Gaudiyas can be so schizophrenic, on the one hand you say this is great, on the other hand you hold to sectarian dogmatism that would condemn them as mayavadis for not believing in the personal rupa of Govinda.. Which is it?
