  • Testing out all my Apple devices - iPhone, iPad, MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini in the hopes of finding the best way of playing Xbox Cloud Gaming. I recent bought an Xbox Series X, and subscribe to Xbox Game Pass, and without a gaming PC anymore, I wondering, can Xbox Cloud Gaming be a substitute for a gaming PC? Watch for more.

The Xbox cloud service must be improved, for sure. There is a lot of potential though. However, the console streaming via Xbox app is really good! I travelled a couple of weeks ago and decided to bring my Xbox controller to try playing with my iPad mini 6. The experience was solid! I used the Hilton’s Wi-Fi and got no delay, lags or anything!

I have tried Xbox Cloud Gaming and I had a fun time for the most part. I used it on Android and the experience is much better compared to iOS. One advantage that Android has is that you can hook up your controller via USB-C to help reduce latency. There is still some room for improvement and I hope we get to a point where most of the technical issues are resolved. I just wish Apple wasn’t so stubborn about cloud gaming as I think it would be a success for the platform.

You are having a common Wifi 6 issue with conflicting hardware, as such your speeds would improve if you went down to Wifi 5. Xbox Game Pass Cloud gaming have screen controls for some games. It usually mentioned it in the game listing. Whilst you are likely to experience lag with streaming, your setup adds lag with the Wifi and it’s aforementioned issue, and the controller being connected to Bluetooth. Microsoft recently showed a new feature that is suppose lower latency by a lot. Good video.

When latency resolution and fps are perfected then Sony and Microsoft will make more money off their cloud gaming services through playstation now and gampass ultimate since last Gen consoles can play next Gen games on these services. So an average gamer can play next Gen, have a massive library of games, not have to install the game on a digital console model with low storage, and have potentially better resolution and fps than their system by itself can handle.

Watching this to find a new solution for gaming on the go after Google has announced it will discontinue Google Stadia.
Stadia solved the Bluetooth-input lag, and streaming-lag issues, and it worked perfectly and was just so easy. Such a shame. I really hope the rest of the cloud gaming platforms take note and adopt the good things from stadia.
I strongly believe Xbox will become the biggest game streaming player, since they already have the user base and the library, and they can take their time developing the tech.
Stadia unfortunately had neither the games nor the users, and hoped the albeit clever and practical tech would sway the market.
I love Stadia, and I hope so badly that Xbox can incorporate the clever solutions Stadia found in the future to really create for gaming what RUclips/Netflix/etc was for the home DVD player.

I've tired Xbox Cloud Gaming from Brazil on Windows, Mac, iPad and iPhone and I had good enough results. But the thing is: iPads, Macs and iPhone (Specially iPad and Mac with M1 and M2) have all the ingredients it takes to run triple A games and become a MASSIVE industry on games. But like: Apple doesn't makes things easy for developers to do so. The most annoying thing I've experienced XCG is the fact that you CANNOT play at all on 4G. Where I live on Brazil we still don't have 5G. If I'm on Wi-Fi, it's easier to grab my Xbox controller and just play on the console. The lack of the option to play some parts offline is a huge flaw on my opinion.
The truth is: I wish Apple devices should be better at gaming and they are not even a real option when it comes to gaming. 🙁

The amount of data required to play on xCloud is something that makes 4G/5G unviable here in Brazil. Of course, unless money it's not an issue for you.
Microsoft showed the xCloud numbers in Brazil a couple of months ago. There're lots of people here that are xCloud users only (I'm one of them). It's a viable option to Brazilian players when the hardware, and software, prices are ridiculously high.

Just saw the video, and I have to say that I just did not have the same lag as you seem to mention. Granted, this was via network cable and WIFI6 seems to have a number of problems still... I also connected my xbox controller to my pc via usb... so that might have helped more.
(( I actually solved the problem with a far easier solution. Yes, I know, the whole scope is cloud gaming, and when you consider the advances in the lat 5-6 years it's amazing... but when I am going away for more than a cople of days, I pop my xbox series s in my luggage. It's so tiny. ))

Cloud gaming for sure will eventually take over once we get faster ISPs.. I can't wait until that day tbh, I really like Mac and me too moved away from Microsoft and went full time to Apple. Windows is only great for Gaming tbh, everything else Mac can do just as good as Windows and their security is far more superior then Microsoft.. As an IT guru, and Windows fan boy, I moved on.

If you have Xfinity with a data cap it isn't recommended. I prefer Playstation streaming from my PS4 PRO from my PC. I hated the experience with Xbox Clouding when I wanted to play Gears of War 2 which I might buy an Xbox One Series S just to play the Xbox 360 classics in actual hardware. I hate to admit it Stadia wasn't that bad and I beat Cyberpunk 2077 too bad its servers are dead now.

Since this is for people that don't want to own the games at all, isn't there an option to just download the game to your drive? All that's required is their not-so-secret always online stipulation. I think it's pretty stupid to try to stream something that isn't prerendered media.

I had a better time on Stadia than I ever did on xCloud. xCloud is a waste of time and money compared to Stadia's performance and design

Those deficiencies are the result of Apples policies not Microsoft’s product. “The web experience” is across all Apples products you know that right? I think you contradicted yourself so I’m not sure what you actually believe.
Anyway, a wired controller connection to a windows laptop works great.

Apple needs to do it. Rn I im working overnights but have a ps5 but I pay 14.99 a month just to play them on my iPad. Yeah it doesn’t compare but getting paid sometimes to play games. I wish apple would stop I wanted to play a couple new games and u can tell it just can’t handle it

Update 1 year later and I would say it’s actually worse than it’s ever been. Microsoft won’t put in the hours , money or time im afraid and as Apple machines with M chips are more than fast enough then the future is not looking promising for any kind of real cloud gaming. Over to Sony as I hear they have a handle on it and should be extremely good in a year or 2

Honestly looks like you might have more wi-fi or isp generated latency than most due to the amount of lag you are showing and talking about. I’ve had a much better experience then what you are describing.
