@@CrazyCranker A bit late, but in case you never found the answer, these rivets have a rubber gasket at the head. They are also aluminum (no rust). So these are perfect for watercraft applications like this.
This was a great video that was straight to the point and actually showed the important stuff. Rivets definitely look so much cleaner and much more solid. That track is going nowhere.
Stellar instructional video, Tim. Easy to follow and well laid out. Love when I learn something new. Thanks, and keep up the good work. And Keep On Fishin'!
I have been trying to use the water proof rivets whenever possible. I think they will last longer than screws on surfaces where you can’t put a nut or something to anchor the screw.
To install the mount without the tape, drill one hole on the end, install the rivet, then install a rivet on the opposite end. Then drill the rest of your holes and rivets.
That is a great idea. I used the double sided tape cause it was handy and to play around with different mounting positions before I settled on one. If you don't have the tape then that method would work very well. Awesome feedback
I really wanted a 106PDL but the cost of the yak / lack of tracks is one of the reasons i went with the slayer10. There are pros n cons to both yaks but the amount of track is what sold me on the slayer. Nice install 👍🏼
Job well done; I like the rivets. I would have applied a very thin bead of silicone around each of the openings on the underside of the mount plate (instead of trying to get silicone into the actual hole). This would ensure a better seal against water. The rivet already has the rubber gasket to seal at the rivet head, so this would ensure you get a good seal at the base. My .02. Thanks for the video; your install looks great!
Im think about putting a trolling motor on my kayak diy style. I was planning on using bolts but have very limited access.. do you think rivets would work in the place of bolts?
I would use bolts, flat washers and nylon lock nuts when mounting something that is going to be under that much tension. I would not trust rivets to just pull out.
Just to add some input..I used those exact rivets on my trolling motor transom. They have been on there 4yrs now and still rock solid. A transom mount gets a lot of pressure from holding the motor, banging into rocks, and multiple hits to the garage door when I run into it car tipping 😂 ROCK SOLID
Glad I saw this before I added tracks to my yak. Btw, can you link to the go pro video you mentioned? That’s why I’m looking to add mounts! 🤗 great video! I have zero interest in fishing but we overlapped on this one in a big way! Happy paddlin’
@@TimHaunFishing glad I’m not going crazy! 🤗 (I looked for it on your playlist!)I’m just looking to secure a go pro to the deck of my yak. Should be easily done. Thanks again!
Hey, on the strength of your recommendation, I just drilled 10 holes in my kayak….to mount a gear track! I love it! This was the best way! Rock solid installation. Looks good. Better video quality with it not bobbing around on my head. I wanted to find this conversation to come back to say thank you again!!
Adding a few accessories is what I'm about to do with mine, nervous since its my first time lol. How is everything holding up with the rivets after a handful of months now?
Thanks for the video Tim. Much appreciated! Looking at getting my first yak and the Sportsman is one of my two choices so it was even cooler that it's the boat you put the rail on. Great visual! BTW - How do you like your Sportsman?
I unfortunately had to sell mine. However; that does not mean I didn't love it. I'll say this; at 280lbs it was astonishingly stable. I was too heavy yo stand in it. I made the nose too heavy when I stood. But otherwise unbelievably stable. However; the trade off there is it handled like an oil tanker lol. It was a bit clumsy to get moving and turn. But as I fish moatly small lakes and ponds and fish rather slow, this was never a problem for me. Lastly, the seat was incredibly comfortable. I just wish it had sat up just a tiny bit higher so I could easily slide a 3700 box in and out. Overall if I bought another one I would not be disappointed. But if I had the means to transport it I'd probably go for a 12 to be a little less susceptible to wind and be able to stand up and fish.
Would you guys use water proof rivets instead of screws to mount accessories to your kayak?
I would go with water proof rivets.
What makes these rivets waterproof?
@@CrazyCranker A bit late, but in case you never found the answer, these rivets have a rubber gasket at the head. They are also aluminum (no rust). So these are perfect for watercraft applications like this.
No, if you use a screw without drilling a hole it will be waterproof.

Thank you very much! This was my first tutorial and they worked out very well for me!

Thank you!
I bought one of those about a year ago. Haven’t installed it yet. Sounds like I have a plan for the weekend now.
Nice job Bud!!
Thanks man! Let me know how it goes!

Time will tell. So far I am very pleased with the results. Thanks for your feedback!
Rivets were definitely the way to go! Good install video Tim!
Thanks buddy!
Nice install Tim. These are some of my favorite types of videos to watch. Love to see new ways to be more practical.
Thanks man, it's gonna be nice to be able to get the gopro off my head and on the kayak when I bring it out. Glad you found it helpful!
You can always use a nail for a center punch
Excellent advice.

I considered the Slayer as well! I ended up selling the 106 to start a tinyboat build.
Nice man, have fun with it!

That is a great idea! Moving forward I will do just that in any suitable application!
First video I have seen of yours and it was great. I always thought to use screws never again.
Thank you! I haven't posted in a while but hope to be back soon with some solid content
awesome Tim that Kayak will put you on them thanks for sharing Tim
Thanks buddy!
Great job, like the rivet idea way better
I think it worked great
Nice work Tim!!! Looks factory!!! Great instructions too!!! Keep doing what your doing brother 👍
Thanks man! I appreciate the kind words.
If I don’t have big scissors or clippers. Will my small finger nail clippers work?
Anything will work if you're determined enough🤣🫡
I wish I would have known about these when I was kayak fishing 24/7 😩😩😩😍😍 beautiful
We can definitely still break out the kayaks!
Man it’s been along time since I’ve gotten the kayak out haha

nice install! just wonder how well it held up using rivets, i plan on installing mine the same way? thanks
I eventually sold the kayak but they remained solid and leak proof the entirety of my ownership. Thanks for watching!

I had to track down one leaky rivet, didn't get a good seal with the marine silicone. After I fixed that, tight and SOLID
Great video Tim!!
Thanks Mark! Being quite the craftsman yourself I hope it was up to your standards!
