    Thanks for reviewing this one, I picked up the Vector Athletics belt after seeing your review. I like VA belt a lot, it’s really great for novice resistance band users, like myself, who want to get good form on banded squats. What I like about this chest harness is that the resistance appears be near the normal loading area of across the shoulders which better replicates a weighted squat. I imagine the harness probably engages more stabilization muscles, was that your experience?

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  8 месяцев назад

      Nothing against the VA belt, but yes this is a bit more of a cumulative load distribution on the whole body.

    Reading the name, I was confused at what a squat harness would do different than a squat belt. It would take away the advantage of a belt putting the weight on your hips.
    But then as soon as you mentioned and showed the dead lifts it clicked.

    I think it could work for having more tension on the lower back when squatting Starting Strength's way. My Harambe system is ordered. I have ordered the blue ropes with spacers. I don't know if I will be able to reproduce hip-drive squatting with that. Maybe the Squat Harness Premium V3 is the solution?

    HI Mike! @5:59 you mention that you feel it a lot in your glutes, hamstrings, spinal erectors and back. That it felt like a deadlift without your hands involved. And that is exactly what I'd be going for, to remove grip from the equation, BUT whilst simultanaeously using it as a replacement to work LOWER BACK via removal of grip in the first place. Would you think this is viable for that? Thank you, really great video as always!!!

  • @azoto3671

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  8 месяцев назад

      They both have their pros / cons. If you want something that takes your back completely out of it then the belt is better, but if you want to still stress and work the whole body, then the harness is the way to go. The harness is also more versatile, just depends on what you want to use it for.

    Good clip Mike. It seems to have its best use when paired with the Speediance machine. It seems to
    me that if it was offered with a version with it being attached to a vest so you wouldn’t have all that flipping and flopping around it would be more appealing. As it is now it just seems kind of sloppy, which is a turn off for me.

      @@hybridresistance Just wanted to give an update on this to you (and anyone else who reads this). I did my first workout with the Squat Harness this morning and I can admit I was wrong about it. I don't really know why, but it was easier for me to load my resistance bands and do squats with the harness vs the Squat Belt. Which is interesting for a number of reasons, one being that the hooks are much smaller on the harness. It might be because after loading and getting into the squat position I am able to use my whole body and I'm not worried about the equipment falling off/pulling off my clothes (like I am with the belt) but who knows. I think I am going to try to test both on my second leg day this week to come to a final decision but as of right now I am impressed with this thing and could be my primary squat equipment moving forward. So at least you know this will be at a good home!

  • @ScottyDan

    Mike, I’m curious if you tried the harness on your Total Gym? One of my pet peeves with the TG is not having anything to hold my shoulders down when doing a squat. Do you think this would work? You’d have to loop a band around the TG weight bar and then put it on the harness hooks… first thing I thought when I saw this video. Thank you!

    • @hybridresistance
      @hybridresistance  8 месяцев назад +2

      Excellent Idea Scotty! Honestly didn't even think about it. I was thinking about strapping bands to the TG and harness, but can't believe I didn't think of that considering all the other wacky ways I tried bolting myself to the bar with suspension straps.

    This looks pretty cool. With the handles up in the shoulder/upper chest area, it reminds me of a Safety Squat bar which I fell in love with last time I was in the gym and not at my home setup. It’s stuff just about anyone would like and get value from. Thanks for your work!

    Is there a type of long J hook that would work to put some of the larger bands onto this? Other than that, looks great.

    I have Bodylastics resistance bands. They sell a resistance band protector for $16 that you stand on. Makes it easy to squat for so much less. You can also just hook carabiners to a bar accessory if you want support over should sand not depend on your hands.

    • @hybridresistance

      The owner at Squat Harness actually sent me a band protector he makes. The only downside to those is that you still might have issues with heavy d-lift/squats and overall still has the risk of it slipping off.

    If I'm trying to lower my grip/brachioradialis engagement and side-step around deadlifts (for atrophying my grip hypertrophy; yes I want to lose muscle off of my R arm - brachioradialis). What 2 exercises could I use to perform to replace conventional movements or RDLs? It's been said that Good Mornings are like RDLs without the grip component (because the bar rests on your trap area). I've been considering the Squat Harness V3 to get around this issue but this doesn't help that I'd be having to hold onto some of the central strap fibers to stabalize the movement. I should also add that I've lost some muscle due to being inactive and dealing with adrenal issues, which means I had to toss out all leg movements, basically.......but deadlifts I can handle because my spinal erectors and probably severely underdeveloped now along with my glutes.
    There are of course hyperextensions. I guess I could do those or Good Mornings to replace the lack of squatting or leg movements in my routine. I am just a weakling right now, so SFR is still a concern, but is blown way out of proportion (I have Adrenal Fatigue, so I am already fatigued, working out in lower rep ranges or doing leg work where I'm standing is just adding to the fatigue and the amount of time it takes to recover from this ailment, just for a little context)....so thank you for any suggestions or recommendations you might have.
    For reference, I'd be doing back extensions maybe with the resistance band around my upper torso with an incline bench I have in my room.

    • @rustyyoung7980
      @rustyyoung7980 День назад

      I'd like to be abe to perform these exercises with no grip (hands-free) if possible, and then possibly slowly introducing movements that use brachioradialis engagement very little to moderate to severe. That would be helpful.
