The “ *You ACTUALLY hit me!* “ line hits harder when you actually experience the fight. Going from constantly being dodged and evaded IN the fight to punching that smug little *shit* in the face…it’s more impactful.

this scene truly hits hard when you go through the actual game trying to solve Brok's riddles. Brok asked "What gets bigger the more you take away?" to Mimir during their journey to 'the lady'. Mimir couldn't find the answer back then but finds it right at Brok's funeral "A hole, gets bigger the more you take away" implying the hole Brok's death has left in our hearts, and that's just masterful writing!!

There’s been a massive hit at “Tyr”’s falseness since they first rescued him. Every time a character mentions Týr there’s an accent over the y in the subtitles. But whenever he himself speaks his name is spelt Tyr, without the accent. From the very beginning, something was off about him, and it was right in front of our faces.

Unpopular opinion: I actually kind of hate that 'clue' bc it kinda makes no sense. It's really arbitrary to have his name spelled without the accent solely just to be a hint. There's no story or linguistic reason for it. It's only there to be a hint and I kinda dislike it for that.

    • @NitroCigarette
      @NitroCigarette День назад +3

@@hugomendoza5665 It is a contextual clue to the reader (player) that is often used in literature. Since this is a player-controlled media, and not one simply read like a book is read, they did it in a way that would be literarily hinted at (reading subtitles) and not visually or audibly hinted at. It's an effective way to drop a hint at something /almost/ without dropping a hint at something. This is even further enforced in that you'd NEVER get this hint if you played with no subtitles at all. It all comes down to it being a literature technique being injected into what is essentially a visual story and not a store that is read off the pages of a book.

There is actually SO much foreshadowing that Odin is Tyr in hindsight. For example, when “Tyr” first sees that the giants hid prophecies within the shrines, the camera pans to Tyr, but ODIN’s score starts playing. There was so much hidden in plain sight that pops out in subsequent viewings and I absolutely LOVE that

The end where Kratos sees the shrine of people worshipping him always makes me tear up. The way he is shaken by the reveal and the nature of his future itself is so beautiful. I get that it concentrates on the cinematics but sometimes there are important bits of dialogue either leading in our out of the cutscenes that are completely missing, For example after the Sindri in Mourning scene where he tells them to fuck right off, Kratos muses in defeat that every path he takes always seems to lead him back to vengeance like an unbreakable cycle.

Mimir solving the riddle at the End as they all experience the Loss of Brok. Another Great Story design is Sindri is Kind of a germophobe always cleaning himself off, when Brok dies in his arms he stops wearing gloves and has not washed Brok's blood off of His Armor and Clothes.. that part of him died. these parts of the story and several other parts were cut out by the editors that made the Video you Reacted to..Btw Sindri's Germophobic tendencies happened when he retrieved part of Broks Soul bits being covered in the souls that tried to stop him, he succeeds in bringing Brok back without his permission which Brok forgives him for in his last moments. This soul bit essentially allows a person to go to the afterlife and since Sindri didn’t get this soul bit and brok died without it, this essentially means that brok is denied an afterlife and is not able to be reborn MEANING that he is truly dead making Sindri’s pain much more impactful and sad.

In the post game you get to explore scattered parts of Asgard that fell in the other realm after the war, in one of them in Niflheim you find a prison and at the end of it you find the real Tyr. Turns out that Odin needed him alive to be able to transform into him. He also does not feel broken at all, just sad he wasn't part of the war against Odin. After that you can encounter him meditating in various places in the game.

When the camera turns back around when Atreus stops Kratos from re-entering the light of Alfheim, you’ll hear an ominous shift in the music seeding the doubt of uncertainty as one character pops up on screen. The fake Tyr. If you remember correctly, in the first game, when Kratos stepped into the light of Alfheim, it was Faye’s soul guiding him and showing him a path in glimpses and I think this was a beautiful way of her warning Kratos the moment she felt Odin close to them in the form of Tyr. Bear Mccreary actually told you the story in music at certain points like comfort and nurturing when Faye’s theme pops, Respect and “I’ll figure it out” energy when Kratos’s theme pops and Fun, uncertainty and a little scrappiness when Atreus’s theme pops up. Oh and every scene with Freya’s theme is just pure doubt… like when she attacks as a Valkyrie, or when Atreus creates the eclipse, them meeting hildisvini and so on.

Good reaction. I wish they showed more of the Heimdall fight. When you fight him, he dodges all your attacks. You must stun him with the spear 3 different times. The first time, you miss every punch, the second time, you get closer, and hit his bracers (because Heimdall blocks your attack) and the third time, you actually hit him. Then he fights out of control after you blow up his arm.

Haven't watched this part yet but I'm already gonna say it was a blast watching your reactions to this game. You just find the right balance between being thoughtful and entertaining that works very well.
If there was other games "all cutscenes" you'd like to react I highly recommend Red Dead Redemption and Red Dead Redemption 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Metal Gear franchise and Death Stranding aldo I didn't play the last one yet so I can't be the judge. But it's widely known that these games cinematography is peak level in video game industry.
Edit: And if you want to react to the GoW prequels, well... Let's just say that there are more than just three games, so it's not much of a trilogy

14:07 items you didn't pick up after defeating enemies out in the world spawn in those chests near a Brok and Sindri shop. They frame them in cutscenes around the shop as a visual reminder instead of having them constantly mention it every time you're near. It also glows blue when you have items in there

Some small details you might have missed: the last dream Kratos has with Fey is the only dream where he wakes up peacefully and not in a rage. When Atreus tells Odin at the end, "There is always a choice,” he's using fake Tyr's own words against him. The way Atreus is holding Odin as he siphons his soul is the same way he holds Kratos in the mural that says Kratos dies. The last mural Kratos sees of him being worshipped is tied to what Odin asks Kratos after he gets the spear: "How many times in your lifetime has anyone prayed to you. How many times have they worshipped you?" Kratos has been feared as a god of war, not worshipped. He sees that using his godly powers to save the realms has made the people worship him as a good god, also contradicting his own self that "there are no good Gods."

Fun trivia: Garm, the wolf that became Fenrir, is the father of Sköll and Hati. Also, a nice touch I choose to believe - at 44:00 when Mjölnir comes smashing through the wall, it doesn't go to his hand like always, it falls to the floor as much as too say "I'm not happy with you right now Thor!". Maybe a nod to the popular "Marvelisation" that you have to be worthy to hold Mjölnir. Also, at 47:48 you asked where his blade was - if you look again she comes out and protects him from Thor's hammer.

Just like you said, part of the one shot camera is it's meant to be seen from start to end. So cutting away such big parts can be confusing or not get the impact that some moments have. Heimdall's whole fighting sequence is way better without cuts. You get to FEEL the first time you hit, since he dodges for whole minutes.
Also Birgir's sacrifice (big guy with big sword) is exactly as you said : you don't know who he is. If you don't take a LONG time going around in their camp, talking to them, you don't even hear his voice or learn his name before that sequence. And even if you go to him, he doesn't say much. Turns out he didn't die there, and there is a whole area of the map to explore and rescue him, learning a lot more about who he is. I don't know why they did the opposite of what they should have done to make us feel worried about him dying. Such a shame.

Just like the 2018 God of War videos, this was just special. It's never tiring. Edutainment at it's finest in my opinion. I highly recommend taking a look at FatBrett's videos on the characters of this game. Especially the Odin and Tyr one. There's sooo much to Odin's manipulations that gets hidden in scenes and whatnot. Can't recommend enough. Valhalla is a perfect ending to Kratos' story, but it's not too cinematic.

57:08 I really liked how they pulled off Kratos saying all that analogy with animal being wounded and needing to stop the bleeding, that everything else is only a distraction from your processing what has just happened. The old ways of processing traumas is thinking and going through them. I related. Insane idea of dialogue. Very mature topic and relatable to our era when we are so easily distracted with media, game and music being constantly around us. We almost don't have actual time to process and heal and they reminded us of that.

The thing at the end about "A hole" that mimir says :
Earlier when getting the spear for Kratos, Brok tries to come up with a riddle to stump mimir. "What gets bigger the more you take away?"
After seeing what a hole brok's death caused to sindri's life, He realizes the answer.
It's also implied that Sindri is so germophobic because he went to the underworld to get Brok's soul back and he "could feel their cold dead hands all over him"

Absolutely loved this series! God of War 2018 and Ragnarok are both in my top 4 games of all-time, with The Last of Us Part 1 and 2 being the others to round out that top 4. Really hoping you eventually cover those! Just joined the Patreon to help decide that for a future series! Anyway, back to God of War stuff.
For one of your questions regarding the power levels of Odin/Zeus and Kratos needing Atreus and Freya to help him defeat Odin, I think it's moreso just for the narrative payoff of having the three of them working together in the end. Yes, Kratos did defeat Zeus on his own, but I think he probably could've done the same with Odin if needed. I do agree that he definitely feels older in these games, but I don't necessarily think that equates to him being weaker. I think it's just him being more measured and in control of himself than the pure rage he has in the original trilogy.
Also, not sure if you're into watching video essay on here, but I'd highly recommend this series ruclips.net/video/ZCvsnPFIYaQ/видео.htmlsi=wsFZ8YZwbngWnk-D, he's got a ton of videos on the different characters from these games and really gets into the narrative and thematic meat of what's going on in these. Well worth the watch.
Hope you eventually cover the original games at some point, but it might be worth it to wait a little bit because rumor has it a remaster of them should be announced pretty soon! Anyway, fantastic series and hope you have a great one!

Skipbladnir - Freyr's flying boat which folds up to the size of a handkerchief. I wasn't surprised when the boat went past the waterfall since I knew the myth
Thor is noted in the myths for having a prodigious appetite and at one point he drank an alarmingly large portion of the ocean.
The great battles of Ragnarok - Thor vs the Midgard Serpent, Odin vs Fenrir, Freyr vs Surtur and Heimdall vs Loki - all perish. Who survives? Oddly enough two of the survivors are Magni and Modi.
The other thing they've chosen to leave out - in order to chain Fenrir (the way the story has been told here it would probably have been Garm). Fenrir boasted that no chain could hold him. The first chain the Dwarves made didn't hold him, so they made a bigger, thicker chain that also didn't hold him and them they came with a slender string (made from rare items - women's beards, bird spit...) which after the other two attempts made Fenrir suspicious. He wanted a guarantee so Tyr put his right hand in Fenrir's mouth and when Fenrir couldn't break the string he bit Tyr's hand off.
So they've obviously gone off script

So when Sindri traveled away after Brok's funeral, Mimir finally realized the answer to the riddle, based on Sindri's grief. "A hole. Gets bigger the more you take away."

the story he told atreus before the war in the tent was about himself. the story is a reflection of Kratos's own journey. Kratos's evolution from a vengeful Spartan warrior and the Ghost of Sparta in the original GOW games to the more introspective and restrained father figure we see here. it's a moment of vulnerability and connection, showing how Kratos tries to guide Atreus in ways that protect him while still passing on valuable life lessons.

I remember hearing that the game director of the first game was not going to be doing the sequel and I was very nervous but man they delivered. They improved on the game in every aspect while also continuing and ending the story in the most satisfying way possible. Seeing the journey of Kratos and Atreus develop and move to it’s ending left me speechless. The thing I love about these videos is the extra context you provide I never even thought about when Kratos is closing the panel it’s him closing out this chapter and it is like a good book. Then the reveal that he saw his and Atreus story but on the back his wife in the yellow paint left his story and as a player of all the games before this myself and Kratos never even conceived that he would one day be worshipped as a true god and protector of his people. Just absolutely incredible.

The most important thing I feel this cut left out was Kratos and Freya's discussion before fighting Nidhogg. In this cut Freya goes from openly hostile but begrudgingly working with Kratos to suddenly breaking the knot and, while still wishing to kill Kratos, decides everything is fine enough to move on and continue working with Kratos.
What actually happens between those two points is an hour or two of Kratos sympathizing with Freya, talking about how he understands her feelings because he had a daughter that he killed and how his brother died. Kratos makes a connection with Freya during this time which really helps solidify Freya's decision after breaking the knot.

Something that I noticed is that Kratos decides what they do based on how Atreus is feeling. That “We are done.” Was because he could see how Atreus was falling apart knowing he was the one who searched for Týr. He decided that what Atreus needed was a break and so that’s what he chose for them to do.
