As someone who lived in Ramstein, I highly recommend living in the Ramstein city center. I lived right across the street from the train station and it was great because there were tons of restaurants and stores within walking distance, and the base is an easy bike ride away from where I lived. Near the end of my time there I was commuting to school and my dad was commuting to work on our bikes. It is really convenient because it allows us to bypass the traffic at the gate.
Great info, DTV! We knew we wanted to be in the Ramstein school zone & found it difficult to find out if a listed rental home was in that zone. So we saved all of the Ramstein zone villages to a Google map list. Houses were being rented out same day as listing, so this helped us decide quickly if we wanted to schedule a viewing.
Is there a rank requirement to live off-post if you are PCSing to Baumholder? And what does that look like if you want to live off-post instead of on-post?
First off congrats 👏🏽 Follow this guide for a smooth PCS: www.dtvdanieltelevision.com/2022/01/03/30-things-you-must-know-before-pcsing-to-germany-with-the-us-military/
She said that Baumholder has another Base. Wrong, Baumholder has a POST (Army), not Base (AirForce). Pirmasens is also an area not far from Ramstein and is cheaper than the Ktown (Kaiserslautern) area. Pirmasens area also has trainstations (EVERY major city does), Pirmasens has a huge trainstation, all the surrounding cities and villages have train stations, of course all the shopping, groceries, hardware stores, clothing stores, gas stations, barber and so on, as well as easy access to the Autobahn. A good and not so expensive place can be found if you look. Ramstein area is expensive, as well as the immediate area, as German Landlords will ask more money from an American, than they do from a German. Of course it would be great if you called the woman in the video, she also gets paid for this, lol. Just ask your friends, make new friends and ask, ask, ask..if not, ask me, lol. I am German-American and live pretty cheap in the Pirmasens area.
