A quick fix for keeping the warm air in the garage would be to hang a few thick drapes or rugs right next to the garage door. Open the garage door so the drapes covers the entire entrance and have a slit somewhere in them so you can push your way through with the gear.
Just wanted to write the same thing. Some thick fabric from ceiling to floor arround the garage door on the inside to limit the issue. You were faster than me.
I had 100% the same thought 🙂
I worked in a studio in NY that had the same garage door problem and we used a PVC strip curtain door to keep the cold air out of the office area. It’s basically a giant thick shower curtain but it is cut into like 6 inch strips so you can walk though it. Worked pretty well.
Check out insulated garage door screens with magnetic flaps. Looks like it would be a great solution for your heating issue. Thanks for making your videos! I have been watching since 2016.
This is why I'm glad I'm in Arizona.
Always clear and relatively warm :O
Wow …Wow … WOW !!!
El Nino is killing us this winter in Florida. This is our prime time observation season and since mid-november I bet we have had no more than 5 acceptable nights for viewing and photography. Rain and clouds have taken over our normal clear dry winter nights.
Not much better here in Germany
5 acceptable nights, sounds like a treat to me. I live in Estonia so every year we get a total of up to 40-50 acceptable nights for astrophotography.
Absolutely cursed. I live East of Tampa. This has been the worst winter that I can remember in recent years
@@X_Excelsiortrue it's horrible
Brutal. I feel your pain!
You work is amazing, your channel is my number 1 stop for any tutorial and just excellent shots of deep sky. LOVE IT !
I feel your pain on the weather this year. It's been an almost complete washout for me since like last spring with very few reliably clear skies. All too many times I've set up only for clouds to rush in after a few mins of capturing. Here's hoping for a better year this time around.
Nicely Done, Trevor.
You are absolutely correct about Russell Crowman's Star Exterminator, Noise and Blur Exterminator ... They have a nominal price tag to them but are so well worth it.
Love the dogs squeaky. My dog gets them and straight away surgically removes the squeaker. But I got distracted. Great work. That part of the night sky has so many objects to image you could spend months enjoying it.
You are setting the bar Trevor! Wonderful images of the Rosette. Clear skies and keep giving us the targets to aim for. Clear skies from the UK!
Thank you!
Hi Trevor. Nice to see you back. What a great technique mixing different data from different scopes. Brilliant. Well done.
The photo resolution is amazing.
I liked the Blackmill track too.
In southern Spain we have sun during the day, clouds during the night 🥲
Hey bro I havnt watched in a while but now its coming back into better weather I thought I would hop by nice to see your still at it your the reason I own a telescope
Fantastic (as usual) Trevor. Thanks for the update on RGB stars!
Fantastic image Trevor, here in australia, we’re suffering in the opposite climate! Trying to get a capture in 80% humidity at 30°C + is definitely a challenge. Looking forward to Milky Way season, both for all those targets, and the cooler weather!
I'm across the lake from you, Trevor, and haven't had a clear night in two months. I feel like the next clear night won't be til galaxy season, lol.
I was searching for this nebula on RUclips and I remember ur channel and I searched it and saw this video 😂 amazing!
Re cold rushing in via garage door. You might try installing thick clear plastic strips (on the outside so they don’t interfere with the door or install them inside on a movable rack). This will block the cold. Same technology used in some walk-in freezers.
Great result! From Minnesota I know what you mean about the cold weather. This season I got some glove/mittens where the gloves have open fingers and you can close the mitten over the fingers and also got thin "smart phone gloves" that fit inside those so if I need the dexterity or touch screen usage I can open those without fully exposing my fingers. Also plenty of hand warmers!
So helpful combining those rgb stars. I'm gonna give it a go!
Absolutely stunning!!
Curtains are a good idea but they also make the hanging plastic louver type curtain . You could build a short wall inside so you end up with an Airlock kind of room
Hi! Thanks for all the tuition and encouragement over the years. Here's an ASIAIR tip for continuing previous sessions. Keep a sub of each target stored on the ASAIR. From Preview, Image Management, load a sub and goto. It will goto the target and report any wrong rotation and how many degrees CW or CCW to align with the old sub. With a manual rotator on the OTA, you can rotate and refresh as necessary to get back into alignment for another session on the same target. I also mount the mobile device on a tripod for polar alignment.
Love it Trevor! Great stuff! CS!
Fantastic image Trevor! Thanks for sharing the suggestion on the RGB stars. I just finished my first SHO image of Rosette, so I may go back and try the RGB stars. Love your channel!
Man I miss astro. The sky has been terrible. I can't wait to get back into it. Awesome shot.
excellent explanation and result!
👏👏
Hey Trevor and Ashley! Do you guys still enjoy birding and bird photography? I still go back to your bird nerds channel and watch some videos every once in awhile.
As a complete newbie I don’t understand all this processing stuff but still hooked with your videos. Am I mad lol. By the way keep it up Trevor
Hi All. UK weather is always crud but I was whining at -7C the other night...-25C is never stepping outside!!!!
the extra mile really shows off here. spectacular image and subject. congratulations on your work
I surprised myself by wondering which of the possible light spectrum combinations I preferred, since either one of the 3 always seems to cover the other. Had never thought about that and have yet to reach a conclusion too lol
Oil filter wrench is what it was! Scott
aka a strap wrench.
Nice video Trevor! I too own an EQ6R alongside a 130PDS, so a little less heavier than you rig. It sleeps outside under a shell with a protection bag on it and I carry it for few meters each time I go out, having the rig set. Makes it super easy to start a session an increase a lot my imaging time. One thing I noticed is that you had the clutches engaged when you move it and I was told that it could damage the rig (putting pressure and weight when balancing it around). To avoid this I just disengage the clutches - the scope is balanced anyway so it does not move much and this way I am sure it doesn't damage anything. I trust you've done this back & forth much more than I did but it might worth a try :)
Super interesting video, as always! Love your final image too! I like this formula in pixelmath for adding stars back in ~((~starless)*(~stars)) It makes me feel clever whenever I use it 😂
Still one of my favorite targets! The S/N of each channel 👌
All you need is a clear plastic sliding curtain to isolate that area when you open the door (like the spray booth type. That will keep the heat in the room.
Strap wrenches are the best!
Beautiful image. Thanks for your video - very handy! We just have wind (99mph) and rain storms here in the UK - not great for guiding! Take care all. Chris
Think you need a tuff truck wheeled mount there Trevor. Also why not run a cheap diesel heater like Chrome from Vancity vanlife does? Leave the door open a crack then puts an aluminium strip across the bottom with the exhaust and air filter on the outside . You will be toastie warm then .
Scope buggy and a side entry door for the garage sure would be nice.
My only clear nights are in the middle of a work week and even then it is one night every three weeks or so.
The tool is called a strap wrench.
Awesome absolutely awesome
Dude, you should come to my skies in Stockholm. I struggle with clouds for 3-4 months in a row and -20C. Also, I'm at Bortle 9. Still loving it :)
Great results and cool video as usual! Amazing that you've been able to get out and image. No such luck for me near Rock Point, but I've been out of the country, I see you have yet to set up your POD. I finally got mine off the deck and assembled (on the grass) just to have the additional wind break.
Same here in Australia but because we have had cloud the whole month and still its cloudy.. :(
The big box in the garage is the Askar 185??
Askar 140 or 185 - that was my guess as well...
It's hard to guess scale since it is packed in a shipping container with padding and lying down on its side - so I lose the length.
That was totally Awesome!
Beautiful image Trevor... Thanks
Awesome! I know your coming to my town in a few months and I can’t wait to meet
Why not use your Radian Raptor telescope? I don't even see it anywhere? Why ? lol. 1:34
Tip here: Using the bottom of a computer mousepad can help you get really good grip to unscrew stuck filters, extenders, etc, trust me!
Excellent info and results!
It’s been like 6+ weeks of clouds and rain on the east coast of Australia. I’m starting to get a twitch
its super cloudy and super cold.
Due to your télescope, I think you can bought or create a simple wood plank with little wheels for get out all the equipment quickly
That's incredible!!! I've gathered some data on the rosette nebula, but I am gonna need to get better with processing the stacked image in PS. This does make me want to invest in a telescope rather than use my Canon DSLR. The 75-300mm kit lens doesn't tickle my fancy anymore. 😅
I got my new telescope at the beginning of this month and the weather is perfectly timed to be bad when I got it
I wouldn’t really recommend the one I got I am sending it back and getting a 6 inch dobsonian, but it was a Orion observer 114mm 500mm aperture EQ
Trevor I think I see or dont see the problem. That sky pod isn’t deployed :) Though seriously gloves with pockets on the back side of the hand and some hand warmers and your hands will feel pretty warm as long as they’re not being blown away by the wind. I’ve had the same issues, clear too windy, cold, and clouds, and usually being on the dry side of the Rockies at 7k feet we get these beautiful dry calm nights where the sky is clear. There’s also those nights it starts cloudy I dont pull the satellite imagery, go watch a movie or play a game and come out and it’s stupid late and the sky is clear and I’m just too tired lol. I see my own sky pod in the future. I’m a big computer nerd so automating it all is on my list.
Anyone imaging in below zero weather gets a "like" in my book. 🥶
when you go to a food store - they have these long clear vertical blinds by the freezer to keep the cold air in and the warm air out.
I am unsure what the name is but it may be worth looking into for a winter solution.
I would love to see you capture IC 418 some time
Canada. Winter. Astrophography. I feel your pain. In fact, here on Gabriola Island, BC, in brotherly solidarity with your plight, my Seestar S50 is outside imaging M31 and I'm on the couch sipping scotch. Sure is cold out tonight...+5C. Location is everything. (Couldn't resist.)
Convert the layer you’ll be making camera raw adjustments too into a smart layer. This lets you go back in and tweak settings as the smart layer saves the edits as opposed to using the history tool.
I'm betting the box has the Askar 185 inside :) I didn't get a good look at it, though. Great video, as always, Trevor.
Very nice Image! The center at the end looks like a hooded person with their arms crossed.
Thank you for the video!
Breathtaking 🤩! Was definitely worth freezing a bit 😉…
Great video Trevor. Thanks!
I live in a Bortle Level 2 area and I want to get into astrophotography so badly.
Be curious to see how the stars that result from a Spectrographic color calibration (with the emphasis on star correction) on the narrow band image would compare to the RGB stars? You could potentially get nice tight color corrected NB star profiles. Work flow would involve removing the SPCC color corrected stars (the nebula will probably turn green), playing with the nebula colours etc. then adding those SPCC corrected stars back in perhaps using the ~((~Image)*(~Image_stars)) formula in pixel math. The Image in this formula is the starless image that you’ve tweaked etc. and the Image_stars are the extracted SPCC corrected stars.
You inspired me to get a telescope recently, and I just got my first picture of the orion nebula last night! I was so pumped to see it
Which telescope and mount did you used?
Outstanding work Trevor, I use linear dodge in the blending mode. I am still learning Pixinsight but always fall back to PS to finalize an image.
I'm gunna guess the Celestron Origin is in that package :P
Great video; nice work 🔭🤩👏
Welcome in my world east coast of New Brunswick we get all weather conversions on top of us
Nice image with the conditions, would the garage door benefit from fitting hanging heavy plastic sheet pieces door drapes for holding the heat in during winter and easy to move during Summer
Evening Trevor and Ashley 😊
Absolutely amazing, as always, Trevor!! I would love to get those colors on Rosette. I'm actually shooting that target currently. But I'm using a 533MC Pro with a RedCat 51, and a L-eXtreme filter. Bortle 7 area. For some reason, my SWSA GTi won't meridian flip, and it's driving me nuts!
Cold hands… I found the Sparco Mecha gloves to be better than having no gloves on in these temperatures. Enough feeling for astrophotography gear…
-25 is brutal.I live in north east England and the lowest temperature ever recorded here on the coast is -9c.. It's about 10c now but we had a cold snap last week and I was out stargazing with my widefield binoculars and it got down to -6c.
Excellent content, production and editing! Looks like you're getting good results with the ASIAIR. I just purchased one in attempts to streamline my process. NINA has been great, but I want stupid simple with less variables.
In China people use clear plastic or fabric tarps that close themselves by magnets. You just hang it ourside an will have one more layer of insulation.
Awesome!❤
Sounds about normal for us in the UK. I have not used my gear for over 12 months 🤷🏻♂️
hello, do you observe planets? If so, which of your telescopes did you like better? Thank you
❤❤❤
Weather has not been friendly here in Minnesota.. lots of continuous cloudy nights. I did finally, get 3 hours of data on Jan 19, also of the Rosette Nebula!
😳😳So many telescope in your garage Trevor! Do you have the one that you love the most?
how did u get ur backyard for ur stelarium this will help me ALOT
Great video as always. My bedroom the heater doesn't work particularly well, and I've been amazed at how well a Dyson fan that has a heating feature works considering it's only a couple hundred dollars. It's loud enough you wouldn't be able to record with it on, but it could help warm things back up after the door was open.
Just thinking.. how about put some kind of retractable or sliding curtain across to keep heat in room.
Great video Trevor! I’ve been waiting for this one. Sometimes my stars when using the L-extreme filter on my 2600MC Pro look horrible. Not always. Maybe scope-dependent. Anyway, I have been thinking about RGB stars for my narrowband images. Looks quite simple. Thanks! Dr B from Manitoba, Canada 🇨🇦 Hi Ash and Rudy!
Could put the rig you want to take out on something like an astro tuff truck. Could just wheel the whole thing out as one unit, cables and all. Theyre UK-based admittedly but damn, they're great units. Lee there did a bespoke one for my youngest (shes 12) one's HEQ5 and Altair 80ED-R, but tbh they do a whole range of them.
Btw im not affiliated, i just REALLY like them!
Great final image as well 🙏
Thank you for your videos.
I have seen you move your equipment in and out of the garage. Why would you not choose to install a permanent backyard observatory? There are many very attractive and reasonably priced units available on the market.
Kind regards
Evening Ash & Trevor ☺️
Still no EAFs.?? .
My top tip for not freezing to death, takes the guesswork out of the equation, can be easily inserted into your image schedule, every hour or so.
Columbus Ohio has been horrible this winter since late October we have not had a clear night. I'm going to forget how to do astrophotography.its been way to long. In Columbus Ohio if you get 2 clear nights a month in winter time your doing good.
I'm guessing Askar 185mm APO too.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😎
