The Chore

This was my very first independent film completed in 1989. It was done on unregistered typing paper and shot originally on 16mm film. It also went on to win a Student Academy Award, a Focus Film award, and be included in the Spike and Mike Festival of Animation, Expanded Entertainments Animation Celebration, and many independent animation festivals. It was completed while taking animation classes at De Anza College in Cuptertino California.

I did this project in school, and we couldn't afford cels. So I used unregistered typing paper, and used a baking pan to line up the drawings. So, yes, like Gertie, everything had to be drawn over and over again. (But not as well as Winsor McCay.)

Yeah, I agree. It's similar to when I make animations on flipaclip. Because before I discovered layers, I had to draw the entire background I want, instead of using flipaclip's backgrounds. Meaning if I have to make frames where a thing or person moves, I have to re-draw the WHOLE entire frame! which took FOREVER, and it was extremely annoying.😠🥱

(The angry mob runs into Magdalene's house)
Ed Bighead: Hello, Mrs. Macropus. I'm your brother's next-door neighbor Edward Bighead. Your brother likes rainbows!
Magdalene: Oh dear! My poor heart!
(Maggie faints)
Rocko: (gasp) Oh, my dear big sister Magdalene. What have I done to you.
Magdalene: Rocko, how dare you tell everyone that you like rainbows! I got husband, a son and a daughter!
Rollo: Uh-Oh!
Wallabia: Looks like uncle Rocko's in trouble.
(Magdalene spanks Rocko)
Rocko: Ow! Ow! Ooh! (cries like a baby)
(Ed Bighead, Rollo and Wallabia laughs)
Ed Bighead: Now, this is way funnier than The Ren and Stimpy Show!

I thought Peaches from Rocko’s Modern Life was Rocko Rama’s brother-in-law in disguise, due to the same voice as Rocko’s uncle Gib Hootsen and a baby kangaroo from The Wild Thornberrys.

Do you think/feel animation's quality kind of "dwindled" when digital and flash animation came along? No offense. I like digital animating as much as the next cartoonist, but there are moments when I feel that digi-animation seems to lack the "heart" of old school animating.And trust me, that sort of "heart" is Rare beyond rare.
