I did this project in school, and we couldn't afford cels. So I used unregistered typing paper, and used a baking pan to line up the drawings. So, yes, like Gertie, everything had to be drawn over and over again. (But not as well as Winsor McCay.)
Yeah, I agree. It's similar to when I make animations on flipaclip. Because before I discovered layers, I had to draw the entire background I want, instead of using flipaclip's backgrounds. Meaning if I have to make frames where a thing or person moves, I have to re-draw the WHOLE entire frame! which took FOREVER, and it was extremely annoying.😠🥱 NOTE: If you don't know what flipaclip is, Then either look it up on RUclips or look in here: #FLIPACLIP
Transcript for "Closet Clown" revised ending: (Rocko runs into his older sister Magdalene Macropus' house) Rocko: Help me, big sis! Magdalene: Hello, baby brother. (The angry mob runs into Magdalene's house) Ed Bighead: Hello, Mrs. Macropus. I'm your brother's next-door neighbor Edward Bighead. Your brother likes rainbows! Magdalene: Oh dear! My poor heart! (Maggie faints) Rocko: (gasp) Oh, my dear big sister Magdalene. What have I done to you. Magdalene: Rocko, how dare you tell everyone that you like rainbows! I got husband, a son and a daughter! Rollo: Uh-Oh! Wallabia: Looks like uncle Rocko's in trouble. (Magdalene spanks Rocko) Rocko: Ow! Ow! Ooh! (cries like a baby) (Ed Bighead, Rollo and Wallabia laughs) Ed Bighead: Now, this is way funnier than The Ren and Stimpy Show!
I thought Peaches from Rocko’s Modern Life was Rocko Rama’s brother-in-law in disguise, due to the same voice as Rocko’s uncle Gib Hootsen and a baby kangaroo from The Wild Thornberrys.
Do you think/feel animation's quality kind of "dwindled" when digital and flash animation came along? No offense. I like digital animating as much as the next cartoonist, but there are moments when I feel that digi-animation seems to lack the "heart" of old school animating. And trust me, that sort of "heart" is Rare beyond rare.
I may upload some of it. It's kind of precious to me, so I don't think I want to do all of it. I will release it on DVD sometime soon with some other films. Joe Murray
@@danielslade9485NO WAY. Did you not read Murray's comment above? He said he did this in school. which means he was probably to young to get married with someone, and probably to young to even have get a girlfriend overall.

Before Rocko, Lazlo and Luna, there is this cartoon short.
There is also a finished short called my dog zero by him

Joe Murray
Nice short
I am reading your book (Creating Animated Cartoons with Character) This is great! Your inspiring to me! Thanks for writing this book! :)
I'm reading this book in 2023
The wife's voice kinda sounds like Linda Wallem when she does Dr. Hutchison in Rocko

@@elly12334Are you dumb? School doesn't necessarily mean elementary. It can also mean middle, high, and college
Hey Joe, will you be uploading "My Dog Zero"? Because it's not anywhere on RUclips right now.
Why you're not using cels?
The animation style's like "Gertie the Dinosaur".
No wonder you did so great with this masterpiece! Cool!
Excellent job Joe!
Your AMA made me Google this, really fun stuff! :D
very nice, what digital software do you use now for animation?
I think he was using flash at least when he was doing the Frog in a Suit stuff
Can someone upload this in high depth?
I'm gonna take animation at Deanza next quarter :D
Very good!
This was made in 87, yet completed in 89.
