Well spoken just a general wild time for both music and music videos such a wide creative movement that mostly makes no sense but that just makes it that much more amazing
I find the lead singer's ability to constantly change his tone in unexpected ways throughout the song super interesting. If you try to sing along yourself with the lyrics right in front of you it's quite difficult. Also, I love how Modest Mouse changes the "main chorus" which makes the entire song lyrically unique and unexpected on first listens.

so many commenting on how their friends and family don’t like Isaac’s voice. I love his voice. He conveys so much. I wouldn’t change a thing about this band!
@redyossarian5820, Maybe that’s your personal preference to have less screaming in a song, and if this song is too much scream, then wow… but either way, screaming doesn’t imply anything about a singer being a weak vocalist, in fact I’d argue the opposite. Being able to control your voice and repeatedly recreate powerful screams for the duration of a song requires good control of your vocal chords to not absolutely shred them and destroy your voice from exhaustion.
I love the message behind this one. Telling a story of great personal importance thats so outrageous that he is shrugged off and laughed at. then at the end, theirs another with the same experience to validate his story.

I used to listen to this doing chinese delivery. I was working full time in IT. Studying electrical engineering full time aswell. We were going through the 2nd big crash that affected me at the time. The state had pulled a 3500$ bursery in consequence to the telecom crash.
This band reminds me of this road trip I had in 1999 or the year 2000 to Texas with my parents, 4 brothers, and 3 of my sisters, stopping at KOA camps, and exploring as many States as we could, all of us pulled into a 1996 white mini van because we lost our home, but we had $2,000 just to spend until we found somewhere new in Southern New Jersey. It was the greatest time in my life. Besides the 100's of times we had to pull over while driving up mountains because the van had too many people in it, and we kept on overheating. But if I could go back in time, I'd want to go on this trip with my family, meetings all kinds of people, seeing American Indians for the first time, and traveling down this one street that seemed to go on forever with no speed limit, with amazing green hills, that to this day the beauty I never forgot.

I know I'm replying to a 2 year old comment, but I definitely agree with that, and it's one of the many reasons Modest Mouse is probably my favorite band.
People only like the "mainstream" form of singing. Any form of vocals that differ from that, like spoken word or what Modest Mouse does, and they'll shun it because they don't understand it. All they know is softly singing about romance and love. It's bullshit.
This is my happy song. Soundtrack to some of the best nights of my life, 8th grade, skating rink, with the love of my life. RIP babe miss you and these days so much ❤
I'm pretty jaded about music videos, but this is amazing. only just heard about Modest Mouse through Johnny Marrs biography, looking forward to discovering more tracks by them.
What I take from these lyrics and have learned in time is that perspective is the most important sense to try and keep hold of. Never mind sight or hearing, lose perspective and you'll lose everything, quickly...
I've been to nowhere and it's nowhere you've never been to there. You've never been to there oh lord. Please help me Always on pop top Papa Khan you think I got. what it takes ya wrong you haven't seen me smile not once. Ya greet the afterlife why won't you live in the life.
sometimes that voice sounds so perfect to me that i cant envision what the singer could possibly look like and when i see him it doesnt make sense because my brain for some reason find it hard to connect such voices to mundane faces as though its a thing that actually exists beyond itself
I saw them in 98 when they had crappy gear and they blew my mind away. Do the cockroach dance is a good one of their earlier stuff on lonesome crowded west album.
Really is an amazing band. It's remarkable how relevant they manage to stay while still keeping out of the mainstream. They reinvented their sound on Good News and yet still somehow manage to stick to their signature sound (I suspect Isaac Brock's singing has a large part to do with this). Even their very poorly produced first album (I forget if Sad Sappy Sucker or Fruit that Ate Itself came first but they're both good and poorly produced) has great music on it.
The most hilarious music video ever, the whole thing is just absurd, utter BS... but extremely fun. I never get tired of the song, and the video makes it 10x better.
This video alone made me fall in love with this song which made me fall in love with this band. Thank you for still doing awesome videos❤ and the songs good without the video but together it just flows😌
Best thing my 18 year old self did was start listening to this band.. about 20 years ago. eek. Remember seeing them in some dive bar in Athens GA. I knew they’d be remembered long after most of their contemporaries had faded away. Love you mm

People only like the "mainstream" form of singing. Any form of vocals that differ from that, like spoken word or what Modest Mouse does, and they'll shun it because they don't understand it. All they know is softly singing about romance and love. It's bullshit.
Finally seeing this guys this summer with Brand New. CAN'T WAIT!
+Molly M yay a twenty one pilots fan!!
Im FFS YESSSS :)
+Molly M AHAHAHAHAH
YOU WERE AT THAT CONCERT TOO?!
i had tickets but didnt get to go
This and Float On are Timeless classics
This is my happy song. Soundtrack to some of the best nights of my life, 8th grade, skating rink, with the love of my life.
RIP babe miss you and these days so much ❤
I have loved this song for awhile, but after seeing the music video for the first time, I'm in love with the song.
So many of their songs find that unmapped place in my soul, rare.
So glad I decided to listen to this song again. Forgot how awesome the video and song were. This place needs to exist cause it looks awesome.
I would love to see it in a game or movie
I'm pretty jaded about music videos, but this is amazing. only just heard about Modest Mouse through Johnny Marrs biography, looking forward to discovering more tracks by them.
RighteousBrother Marr's guitar is so damn great on this track
It reminds me a bit of "Easy Money", by the way
I think that's Johnny right there playing guitar.
Simply a terrific video to accompany a great song!
I got to see them live at edge fest 2015 and they played this. I cry-sang my heart out. This band means more than anyone could ever tell me otherwise
Always a pleasure to listen to this song
This song makes me feel alive still heart this song for many year's, it's now one my guy favorite song.
Man I remember watching this the day it came out. Also watching Float On music video as a kid on MTV. Getting old is rough
What I take from these lyrics and have learned in time is that perspective is the most important sense to try and keep hold of. Never mind sight or hearing, lose perspective and you'll lose everything, quickly...
2020 and this song still never fails to give me goosebumps.
This track still rocks hard in 2024!
This Indie Song has the BEST DRUMS in their music world ! 🥁😎
Watching this before class to recharge myself with happiness to cope with two hours of dull class. Modest Mouse are the best!!
They have a really specific style which makes their songs IMPOSSIBLE to get bored with
This song never gets old 💗 😊
You're the reason I am alive. Even on the streets - I try more than anyone tried. You're my spark. Thank you. Thank you.
I've been to nowhere and it's nowhere you've never been to there. You've never been to there oh lord.
Please help me
Always on pop top Papa Khan you think I got. what it takes ya wrong you haven't seen me smile not once.
Ya greet the afterlife why won't you live in the life.
" music video with the singer on a ship at sea lost his hand "
That is how I found this music.
Lmfao
Lol genius
Literary professor?
WELL HERE WE GO is the absolute best
And we talked about nothing, which was much more than I wanted to know oh oh oh oh!
sometimes that voice sounds so perfect to me that i cant envision what the singer could possibly look like and when i see him it doesnt make sense because my brain for some reason find it hard to connect such voices to mundane faces as though its a thing that actually exists beyond itself
Just goes to show you that looks shouldn't even matter when it comes to writing good music.
The bassline in this song is so underrated
He sounds like he's getting increasingly drunk as the song goes on... I love it
I just realized that too. Wow!
in that sense it's just like a modest mouse show
Spandan Banerjee ive been telling ppl that for as long as ive listened to them, good ear
i dont hear that... but the intensity of the song grows.... that's called progression....
Well I mean he is a sailor, In a bar. So I mean it makes sense
wished that more bands would put the effort in to make an engaging music video, well done lads!! love this
Had no idea that they'd been around for 17 years before this song!
Well, they're they're modest!
I saw these guys in Billings, MT back in 2009. They absolutely KILLED this song. Such a great band live
MY DASHBOARD MELTED WHEN MODEST MOUSE CAME ON THE RADIO!!!!!
cause this song is fire
But you still have the Radio...
I did this song at karaoke 🎤 last night. Too obscure to be a crowd pleaser, but it pleased me !!! 😺
Thats what’s up. 🤘
7 years later still a good song
Another 7 years and still a good song
This is one of the best songs of the decade in my opinion
The video is brilliant, this song will always sound amazing.
What a classic, this song has been around a while now and will make it further into the future.
The most hilarious music video ever, the whole thing is just absurd, utter BS... but extremely fun. I never get tired of the song, and the video makes it 10x better.
this is one of the best riffs you're ever gonna hear.
The story in this Music Video is sooo interesting that I actually kinda want to find out more about it .
This video alone made me fall in love with this song which made me fall in love with this band. Thank you for still doing awesome videos❤ and the songs good without the video but together it just flows😌
In 2020, this continues to be one of my favorite music videos.
I love how guitarist adds a touch of disco into his style. It mixes amazingly with the singers voice.
Johnny Marr is a guitar god
Best thing my 18 year old self did was start listening to this band.. about 20 years ago. eek. Remember seeing them in some dive bar in Athens GA. I knew they’d be remembered long after most of their contemporaries had faded away. Love you mm
This song reminds me of a hot summer day in a dirty pickup truck, no working ac, no working seatbelts, the only thing that worked in that thing was the engine and the radio. Mood
Probably one of the funniest twists I've seen in a long time. Awesome video!
It's the band for me ❤
The best part of this song is at 1:07.
3:17 I like the silly part when Isaac takes the mops, and the guy just looks at him, while The other one Just winks like
' just go with it'
