I used to use hot tap water because I wasn’t reading the fucking directions. That could have made me really sick. I’m lucky my body decided not to let my fucking around find out. Instead I will say the water being too hot is VERY unpleasant. It is not worth the rush and it will not melt a blockage or whatever. You’d think the pain would be throughout the sinuses but no. It hits the eyes. Whoof.

WARNING: I feel like mentioning the reason WHY you boil the water first is important. There is an amoeba known as N.Fowleri that has a 99% mortality rate. They live in warm fresh water (similar to that of water sitting stagnant in a pipe) and can only enter you via nasal passage. There isnt much they can do once you have it except give you meningitis meds. It is very rare to find in tap water, but all tap water fatalities have been from nasal flushers. Boiling the water 100% kills any bacteria. Please, please, please boil the water first its worth the extra time

If anybody is wondering why you can't use tap water, or at least non-boiled tap water, is because it could contain bacteria or even free living amoeba. One exple being the so called 'brain eating amoeba' n.fowleris, which travels to the back of your nose, up the olfactory nerve, and into your brain. It's extremely rare, but this is one of the common routes its happened, the others being untreated water parks, white water rafting, etc. Oh, and it's pretty much always fatal once it gets on there, so always make sure to use distilled or boiled water to be safe if you're going to use one of these; amoeba also can't usually survive in salt (saline) environments/solutions.

@@skatingfreak1670 it depends where you live, the time of year, quality of water etc. Free Chlorine above 1ppm is usually enough to limit growth in public water from supply, but if its lower than that then it might not sufficiently kill off all organisms. Also its not really the water itself but the biofilm on old underground pipes etc where they can attach to and hide and not be affected by chlorine, fluoride, etc. I would not recommend using tap water.

I have used these a few times. If you are exposed to dust and pollen and stuff or if you are sick and stuffy this helps so much.
I only tried it for the first time after I had this horrible sinus infection. It was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I have been through some stuff but it was a radiating pain that just went in and out for a few days it got so bad. Meds didnt work. I just wanted to be knocked out.
I was desperate and decided to check the non-doctor's on RUclips. The dude snorted lime juice to destroy the infection. He said, "Most of you will never do this anyway. So move on to the next video.
I just got a NetiPot and added an entire spoon full of fresh squeezed lime juice and filled to the line with water. It was pretty brutal and it burned like Taco Tuesday. I flushed immediately after with fresh water. After about 10 mins of discomfort and a minute of burning, it was immediately feeling quite different. Within 2 hours the symptoms were bearable for the first time in days.
By the next day it was just slightly irritating. The next day I felt normal.
I know this is bad to do this because of the raw tissue inside the sinuses. But it was desperation and I am glad I did it. Not something I would do everytime, or all the time. But it worked.
Flushing sinuses once a week may be beneficial for many people. But folks that use nasal spray all day everyday will eventually rely on that crap.
But nasal flushing when you have the flu or are very sick will flush the good and the bad. But you have to get that crap out of there that is festering and kicking your ass. I do what works for me. This works for me.

The water temp you want is the same warmth as body temp. The water you want to use is pure distilled water. The type of salt you want to mix in the water is non iodized medical salt about 1 teaspoon per 500ml of water. In case of highly persistent nasal phlegm, you could also mix in half a teaspoon of baking soda into the saline water, but only for extreme measure.

For those who have a constant stuffy nose or winter dry sinuses, there are less expensive Netti Pots you can use. Around here you can find Neil Med Sinus products that include pre-measured salt packets and pots to make it easier and... if you are sick with a stuffed up nose and blocked sinuses? Its a godsend.

  • @alanmlkbanda

Flushing when no symptoms are around ruins the mucus protective layer. How so ? Mucus is constantly produced just like saliva. If you flush you might wash it away but it will come back to line the tissue with that protective layer again, won't it ? As a matter of fact this is a recommended daily higiene practice. That's how you take care of your nose and avoid boogers from forming. Drinking water isn't enough to hydrate yourself. Your throat gets the benefits as well as the rest of your body but the nasal passages don't benefit that much. It can stay pretty dry up there. That's why it makes sense to wash as this will provide hydration but also clean. It 's suggested to actually be done up to 4 times a day if you're not sick. And more than 4 if you have superior respiratory tract infection.

Add a bit of salt to regular water and it solves the stinging problem. Try about 1/4 teaspoon salt added to 8 oz. of water. That will be pretty close, then adjust as necessary so it doesn't sting at all.

if you used distilled you'd cause more damage than good it's best to be done with isotonic salt solution
too little salt: the nose cells pop like orbees
      isotonic: nothing happens
too much salt: the noise cells start looking like raisins

Not room temperature..it will hurt. Do boil 1st or use distilled water (tap can harbour really dangerous ish that you'll be blasting into your sinuses if you don't boil it 1st) But anything cooler *or* warmer than body temp will be really uncomfortable, at best..usually it'll actually hurt a bit if it's too cool or too warm...

@@percymirakles Both mine are crooked from birth, and the water dosent make it past the nose. Used meds before to try and stop alergies, never worked for me. I found that pure honey, not store bought but sorced from a farmers market, works so much better, and seemed to increase my natural tollerence to allergy inducing issues. Would highly recomend.

I’ve had chronic sinusitis for 10 years, I’m supposed to do sinus rinses daily with added steroids to keep my sinuses somewhat functioning and reduce throat pain.
I’d recommend using the squeeze bottles rather than these fancy electric ones. You can microwave the dry bottle for 90 seconds to sterilize before using it. I tried an electric one for a while and just kept getting staph infection without the microwave.
And use distilled water, easier than boiling water yourself.
