    Thanks again for a great a detailed review! This as a great device, i should get one for my son some day...so i have an excuse to "play" with it as well :)
    Would like see more of it, maybe a small project?
    It‘s very cool that is uses Python as programing language. Very easy to use but still very mighty. I use this language on work for small scripts.
    Great set of sensors, that invite to do many interesting projects with it :)

      Thank you Sir, I greatly appreciate your feedback! This is the first (of possibly several) future videos on what you can do with the CrowPi2. I was debating should I separate the unboxing from the learning material and decided to make one setup video to help new users get familiar without having to watch multiple videos. The downside is that it's a little longer than my typical videos. The good side is someone new to the CrowPi2 can use this video to get started quickly with chapter markers in the description so they can skip around. I do plan on digging into some more advanced projects, maybe even hosting some sample code on my website with wiring diagrams. I definitely want to exercise this unit in future videos, if there is community interest! I have a lot of projects in mind for it 😎

    Seems like you can get the nacked laptop frame including the sensor board to install an existing Raspberry Pi into it (if you already have one) for 269$. Sounds like a fair price to me.
    And man, i love this modular design.
    So i guess you can still use the frame (screen, keyboard, sockets, sensor board, etc) even with newer Raspberry Pi boards.
    I wish other laptops would be as modular. Could safe some waste if you could just exchange the mainboard, to get a new machine out of it ;)

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  3 года назад +2

      You are exactly right, you could get the unit without the Pi 4 board and add it yourself (2/4/8GB of RAM). You can also use a 3b+ if you prefer to use that version as well, it includes the adapters for it. They put a lot of thought into the design and assuming the next version of the Pi uses a similar form factor and via holes, it may also work with this unit. I think it's a great price for what you get with the kit.

    I modify things at the drop of a hat. They call it "hacking" now, before it was "modding", when I was a kid they called it "tinkering".
    So I immediately noticed that the 2nd HDMI port is blocked by the adapter for the 1st HDMI port to the ribbon cable. I have two pigtail microHDMI male to full HDMI female adapters on the way. Each will go into the 1st and 2nd microHDMI ports. One will then connect to the HDMI to ribbon adapter that was meant for the Pi 3 and to the screen in the CrowPi2. The other will then go to a 1ft male HDMI to female HDMI panel connector. This will then be my external connection to a 2nd monitor.
    I am building an expanded bottom for it that will house nine 18650 cells wired 3/3 (parallel/series) (11.1 to 12.6V) with a BMS and a small 12V3A charger, and run that in through the 12V input. The Li Ion cells are scavenged from power packs, already in parallel sets of 3. I'll match the sets using a charger/balancer/load tester.
    Should I do a video? If I do, I'm going to put it on my other channel, AE7HD.

    I'd be upgrading the battery to nearly double,at least 8000mah. Especially if I will be using it for retro gaming. This is neat and a great little toy for those who can afford to spend that kind of money on something like that rather than add another $100 or $200 and get something 3 times more powerful.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 года назад +2

      Just a heads-up, I received a newer model from Elecrow a few days ago which has a built-in 5000mah battery. It will likely be my next video on the channel. It doesn't include all the electronic components/sensors however like the CrowPi2 kit does, it's mostly a Raspberry Pi laptop. More in the video review...

      Thank you! If you want to swap from the Elecro microSD to RetroPie, you'll want to shutdown the CrowPi2, remove the back cover and swap the microSD. I'm hoping that in the future we'll have a better option. Mentioned it to Elecrow, they ran a test and it seemed to work but no official image as of yet. Appreciate you watching!

    Thanks for this awesome guide! I was following your steps to restore the backup image into a higher capacity microSD (512 GB), but when I finally insert the microSD in the slot and power on the CrowPi2 it is unable to boot :(
    Any hints on what might be happening?

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  2 года назад +1

      Very welcome Karla, thanks for watching! Since this video, I documented the steps a bit better here: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Backup_Clone_a_Drive . You may want to start by re-formatting the 512GB microSD ( one way described here: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Format_as_FAT32_Pi_Imager ). You can also use Pi Imager to restore the backup you already created here: wagnerstechtalk.com/common/#Burn_an_Image_with_Raspberry_Pi_Imager . This should get you going. I did use the instructions on the CrowPi2 guide to restore to a 512GB microSD and it also worked fine here. Just make sure you have no other removable drives connected to your computer and should work fine.

    What is the secret to getting this to connect to WiFi?
    I found my phone hotspot on the list of wireless networks, put in the password. I get no error messages, but it hasn't connected. Changed the password. Still no luck. Am I missing something?
    Tried with a vanilla 32 bit Raspberry Pi OS, connects quickly and works great.
    Downloaded the disk image of CrowPi2 OS and put it on a micro SD card using Raspberry Pi Imager 1.7.3. Booted.
    Nothing. It sees my hotspot phone. I put in the password and click connect. No error message, no attempt to log in, it just doesn't connect as if I'd clicked Cancel.

    • @WagnersTechTalk
      @WagnersTechTalk  Год назад +1

      Make sure you set your WiFi country in raspi-config. As long as you've done that, you should be able to connect. I've had issues with my router where some devices (such as a Pi) has a hard time with certain special characters like #$, etc. Try a simple password of alpha-numeric only and see if that works for you.

      @@WagnersTechTalk Thanks! I bought this slightly used, so I assumed (ahem!) that it was set up. It was not. It was set to Algeria. So I went through setup and got it all correct... and it turned out to be my phone hotspot! It just started acting up with the Pi first, then in a few hours, anything connected was timing out.
      Rebooting the phone didn't help, so I switched to my tablet hotspot, and it ran smooth as glass. I feel pretty silly for not trying that sooner.

You can exit that and do other stuff. You can also run RetroPie, Recalbox, Batocera, TwisterOS, etc. all linux. Of course, Python, scratch, etc. runs great.
