I really want them to make a CrowPi for the CM4, which could make the bottom a lot more trim. And also, moving that trackpad under the keyboard... :O
I dream about un laptop for pi zero 2, very slim and compact.
I want to make it but I’m thinking about the hdmi to make it slimmest or replace it by flexible Pcb
That would be great, also you’d be able to put a more traditional laptop style cooler with heat pipes and slim blower style fan to keep it slim while allowing better cooling. And maybe adding m.2 slot.
Well gee Jeff I want a CM4 but only special people seem to get them.. ain't that right? Mr 20 boards lying around ..lol
Great idea
What Jeff said. 💯
Just received my CrowPi L basic kit today! Fantastic speed of delivery via DHL Express (free) and AliExpress which actually took a total of 7 days and 5 of that was processing! It actually left HK on a flight at midnight on the 9th and was delivered to my door today! Cost me £177.14 after the coupons I had were applied. Haven't assembled it all yet but I am very impressed with the quality so far! :-)
Wow, thanks for sharing our CrowPi RaspberryPi Laptop🌹 Our pleasure to be one part of your job! 🤩🤩
If it had support for an internal SSD, it would be perfect.
Nice review. Very impressive amount of flexibility and feature accessibility built into this Pi Laptop design.
This is an interesting start along the direction of Pi laptop cases:
- The magnets are an excellent idea as we frequently put the Pi in and out of the laptop case, especially in a time of supply chain scarcity.
- I wish they can provide a *slimmer* case for the CM4, with a *bigger 15" screen*, and at least one *M.2 slot*. Who want to use an SD card for everyday work with a Pi?
- you mention that the fan is quiet. Have you checked that the KDE Plasma OS you run is configured to control this laptop fan based on the CPU temperature? and if so, what configuration file / parameters ?
- When the Pi 5 will be out, with 4K support and better CPU, my guess is that this market will get a boost with many more products of that type
The fan only has two cables unlike the pwm Pi fans. I’m sure it’s just one constant speed.
In terms of hardware specs, it seems overpriced. The real value comes in the aesthetics. The laptop chassis is very sleek looking. The magnetic panel is nice and clean, and the cable routing is very well thought out. Someone spent a fair amount of time getting this case just right, and it looks VERY nice. The parts kit comes in a molded package, and contains a printed manual which put is light years beyond most of the other kits out there.
With every iteration these get so much better.
Seems like there's enough room for another slim USB adapter to be able to mount an M.2 drive internally.
Very informative, good video.
Bob
If it had a M.2 connector to run the OS, I would definitely buy one!
As someone that never uses trackpads, I like its placement. It's out of the way yet there in case you briefly don't have a mouse. The placement keeps the laptop footprint slim. I'd probably pair a bluetooth mouse with it to further streamline it.
Built in marble sized laser trackball would be awesome. Had one on a sub notebook in 94. Of course that one was a regular trackball back then. It was terrific though. I use trackballs now because of that one. You don't need space to move a mouse around. Very instant on in shooting games as well.
Nice sleek looks like it runs ok
looks like an excellent product
NEAT!🔥❤
I'd be tempted to get one, provided the next few pi's like 5 6 7 etc, use the same form factor, otherwise its kind of expensive if you're using it just as a laptop.
It does amuse me that so many people in RUclips comments are never happy with what they have now but always looking to the next upgrade, as with the expectations of Raspberry Pi 5.
I was particularly shocked with comments on the day Steam Deck was released and people posting comments like "Can't wait till Steam Deck 2!"
@@terrydaktyllus1320 Yeah, I dabble with SoC's a little, and the idea is nice. I just don't have a real use for it at the moment. But with the 3 and 4 being so similar, it would be great to know if future versions will share the same form factor for compatibility. I do love the finish on this thing though.
As a teaching aid, maybe. As a tool, I prefer a touchscreen and a pi4 or cm4.
I disagree, you cannot do proper "adult" computing on a touchscreen - precisely the reason why toddlers like touchscreens on tablets for their Disney movies in the back of their parents' car on long trips.
What a cool device with a slick desktop UI. That flush USB connection inside was really nice. I think a heatsink with fan would be nice, and echo the sentiment that M.2 support would be welcome in the next iteraiton. What is it about the power adapter that you have to be careful about?
It’s 12V most usb C devices are only 5V
@@leepspvideo Is there a way to download their desktop UI if we don't have the laptop?

Good video, now the real question is can it run crisis? More LEDs = more fps
I have seen this around and been wondering how well other OS’s work on this. It’s crazy how far the pi has come toward being versatile yet powerful computer. Is there enough space to add a heatsink like the copper one that is slimmer?
There is space for a heatsink instead of the fan
The Pi has always been a versatile and powerful computer, right from the word go.
You're now talking with somebody that made his first Internet connection around 1992 with a Commodore Amiga A1200 running at 14 MHz and with 8MB RAM on a dial up modem and using "iBrowse" as a web browser. You do not need a lot of CPU resource to begin networking computers together.
The first Raspberry Pi Model B ran at 700MHz (at normal clock speed) which was 200 times more powerful than that Amiga was (in terms of raw clock speed anyway).
If we still had an Internet that was based on FTP and basic HTTP connectivity, a Pi Model B would be perfectly fine on such an Internet - it's the commercialisation and "bloatation" of the modern Internet that creates demands for ever more CPU power and memory that makes older and slower computers redundant in the eyes of some people.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 My first batch Pi Model B is happily running Pi-Hole for my network, and has been for the last three or four years. An SD card has failed, but otherwise all still running fine. Speed isn't everything.
Nice
someone needs to 3d print a kit for this
Watched this straight through to support you. This is not worth what they are charging and I will never consider it.
I agree
It's not worth the money but I still give them kudos for creating it - unfortunately, a device like this is extremely niche and will never be manufactured in enough volume to be able to drastically reduce the price anyway. What they are charging is fair for what they no doubt pay for the manufacturing cost of each one, but it's still too expensive for what it is.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 Yeah, they are charging the price of a laptop computer, but without the computer part XD. What we need is a 3D printable foss notebook case for the pi, and... well... better looking that those that already exist.
@@alexviralata1356 The Pi is perfect for a palmtop computer than you can just put into your pocket that isn't a mobile phone with Google's or Apple's "privacy-hating poison" on it - there's a few interesting printable projects for those.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 Indeed, besides, since it's an arm device, running linux, it got a strong security by obscurity! A palmtop computer, that would be lovely, but for what I've seen, most DIY project just take off the the shelf part, slap 'em together with case and everything and call it a day. What I'm thinking, is to have a device just like this CrowPi, but you know... at a reasonable price and DIY.
Long time ago, VIA made a open hardware netbook, that would be useful.
Cheers!
did they also send you a pi 4 with the laptop or did you use one of your own? also did they send an pre-flashed SD card ?
Pre flashed sd card. I used my own Pi 4 4GB.
Very cool! Although the first 2 thing I'd do with it are: install LinuxMint (or any other serious distro where all the CrowPi laptops is supported) and paint the bottom case black.Other than that, super nice! 👏
Linux Mint is my favourite distribution. Unfortunately, there is no ARM edition.
@@johnm2012 you're right, I'll put Debian heavily themed/tweaked then.
@@johnm2012 That's why for the same money you can keep your Pi in a simple and cheap case and just buy a used Thinkpad for the same money - and stick Linux Mint on that.
can you please try running Windows 11 on it? (Use a SSD on the USB port)
hi, currently there is few stores with raspberries(zero2w), do you know when stores are going to have stock?

I have used laptop for so long, I for sure know I will not be buying another one... better get a portable computer and monitor, way easier to repair or upgrade...
Are you on Odysee yet? I couldn't find you and just wanted to check. Btw you can sync with your RUclips channel so that whenever you upload here, it also uploads to Odysee also, if you didn't know.
I am, search for Raspex. I’m sticking with RUclips as it pays better.

not for the cost to much
A nice piece of kit but not good value for money.
$250 plus the cost of a Raspberry Pi 4 would allow me to still use a Raspberry Pi 4 in a simple case and spend $250 on a refurbished Thinkpad T260 with a Core i5 CPU, 8GB RAM and an SSD in it, all with a 90-day warranty too.
No disrespect to the creators and manufacturers because it's not as though they could make the CrowPi in such numbers to severely reduce manufacturing cost anyway, so I can't blame them for the price they are charging - but it still doesn't work from an economics perspective.
nice project but too overpriced, it costs more than an entry level branded laptop moreover on the chinese markets you can find better products for less
Please don't push the idea of "entry level laptops", they are all complete rubbish. You can buy a refurbished Lenovo, Dell or HP laptop with business-level specifications that is no more than 4 or 5 years old for the same price as an entry level laptop, with a 90 day (or longer) warranty that will out-perform any entry level machine.
@@terrydaktyllus1320 yes, agree with you, refurbshed laptops are even better than entry level and so immensely better than this super-expensive pi laptop
