I'm grateful for your ability to pick out little things that have an impact on tricks from your old clips. That's a skill to be able to look deeper than just "here I made it, here I didn't"
ah, thanks Mike! :D I have a few phases of learning tricks. A few weeks or more of just trying them--the yeet phase, and then a few months of trying to figure out what's actually happening--analysis phase, and then trial and error to test my hypotheses--testing phase haha 😂 and then it continues forever lol
Took me a couple of hours after watching this video to do a walk the dog cleanly. The focus on the hips is what made all the difference compared to other videos I had watched. Thank you so much.
Creating my own lines (routines as I call them) has been my main source of improvement! I'd learn new tricks, slot them into the line, and then when I went to show someone a trick I was amazed how good it had become... I completely forgot it was part of the line, and even though I'd hated it and wanted to take it out so many times because it would make me redo the line 10 times sometimes.... Now the whole line is better and all those random little tricks freestyling adds get constantly improved!
I’ll try the pocket. This trick is way harder to do smooth than it looks. This one’s on my short list. Got monsters and can do endovers but I get dizzy after two lol. If you can do the three fluidly it looks great imo.
Woaaah your tutorials are soooo thorough and really take in consideration all the problems one finds while trying to learn! I was starting to give up already after not being even close to what other tutorials showed but this has sparked anothee bout of hope and determination! Thank you!
definitely bookmarking this video into my phone. gonna practise this since my ankle and knee need some rest. the tutorials is growing stronger. Its so good that u also have pictures to help ur explanation.
ahh yes! I hope you can get in some good practice after resting up :D And really glad you think so. I also thought taking a picture of the bottom of my shoe and the deck might be better than just pointing to it 😂 I'm no graphics pro, but this much I tried haha 😂
Awesome vid as always Sarah. Going to work your tips into my practice sessions. This is why I love your videos as they make the “practice” of skateboarding so accessible by clarifying great methods. Also dig the pinned comment with other recommended vids.
ima try this tomorrow! Andy Anderson is who made me love these, great explanation once again Sarah! Keep it up like this and you'll be in the hundreds of thousands of subs soon I just know it maybe even get on braile! imagine that, Sarah shredding the braile vert ramp XD
Yes, Andy has beautiful walk the dogs. He does amazing smoothies too. Glad you're enjoying the videos though! (I technically did go to Braille, but they didn't invite me. Mike Osterman invited me to help show off freestyle and his new decks. Braille has no idea who I am still, but I'm in the freestyle videos lol)
Thanks for this video. I have no skills at all in street or frestyleskating but this a must leard, look So cool. If it takes me the hole summer, must learn it:)
I've started taking these FS backwards lately and that shoulder tip is probably going to be what connects it. Have you tried no grip in the middle of the freestyle set up I've been trying it and the pivot tricks have become more enjoyably sketch let's say
IMMEDIATELY after watching this video, my walk the dogs were so much better! I think tip one helped me the best, but what should i do about over-rotation? Ive noticed that once in a while when im rotating the board it goes 270° instead of 180°, is there anything i can do to fix that other then practice?
Practice of course, but also perhaps pulling back a little strength/speed-wise or even trying to hold the board down a little more with the foot in the middle. I still have times when I get overzealous and over rotate haha
Ok, so I thought it was just me....freestylers make this trick look like you can learn it in a day, but this is actually a pretty darn technically difficult trick. I can do no more than two solid rotations. I started off in the pocket, them moved to the actual kicl because my rotations got better, but I will return to the pocket per your advice. Maybe I really need to get my foot right in there for it to work. I just wanna freestyle 😪
haha yeah, I feel like walk the dogs are the ollie of freestyle. It's the "absolute foundation" and links it all together. But, for many of us it's a huge struggle lol especially to get to the buttery stage. And hey! Experiment with both! If the kicks work well for you, go for it :D I definitely "chop" more there, but it might work better for you than me 😃
@@SarahParkMatott worked on them today. I got 4 in a row. Haven't been able to repeat, but using my hips worked a lot as per your advice. I tried both ways and using the pocket works pretty good too. You rock 😎
I’m glad to hear that these took you so long, I tried a few times and was pretty disappointed. Do you know how reasonable it is to do on a shaped deck/OG cruiser? I was able to sort of get them, but I don’t have a tail (tail? Kick? 🤷🏻♂️) on the nose of my board and I wonder if that going to be a problem.
Oh yeah, took so long! haha Freestyler's do these without a kick nose all the time. It's totally doable. But, I definitely slipped off a flat nose more than I did with a kick nose. So, I wouldn't say it's a problem, but it might feel a little harder in the beginning. I also thought it'd be easier in the beginning because it's so "basic." But it takes a lot of practice to start getting well. So, hang in there! You can definitely make it work. A few a day goes such a long way with this.
You can try adjusting your upper body. Leaning often encourages the board to move in response. So, standing more upright might help. However, walk the dogs move forward naturally 😃 it's actually a really advanced move to do them stationary. You have to roll the board back underneath you if that's what you're looking for. It's incredibly hard.
The front foot should always point in the same direction as your shoulders are pointing. So, only the board rotates while the front foot and shoulders point together forward.
@@DCxSkateboarding exactly 😂😂 it serves its purpose haha I do wish they had just used asphalt over the weird crusty ground they chose if they couldn’t do concrete. I just skate the flat there anyway. But, grateful to have something flat 😃
If you have really steep concave, it could be slightly "harder" but still very doable. Going to want to make sure the heel comes up high enough to get a good spin 😃 I've never had any problem doing these on my street decks.
Sarah u don even know. I just be waiting for you to figure shit out so u can break it down for me. I've been practicing walk the dog for months and could not figure out wtf my feet were supposed to b doin. even after Mike's video. the motions in my FRICKIN HIPS

Tip 3 is MONEY. Dudes NEVER talk about hips. I love the way you explain things your own way based on experience, not "the rules".
your videos have completely changed the game for me in skating. finding your form & knowing technique means everything. Thank you!!!

I use a 7.6in freestyle board when skating freestyle. Although, you can walk the dog on any board size :D

help! I don't understand tip 4. where should my front foot (the one that goes in the middle, not the foot on the pocket) be pointing?
