This is the most in depth comprehensive series on Final Fantasy II/IV I have ever seen! This series has been truly amazing! I hope you tackle another Final Fantasy game in this manner someday. Until then I can’t wait to see what you do next.
I always loved the fact that the giant not only has, but you land on, a tongue. Been looking forward to this for what feels like forever. Love your work!
As always, hats off to you, my dude, for all the amount of time it must take to produce and edit these vids, and then record voiceover, and then upload the dang thing. Always enjoy your vids. Much thanks.
I remember calling Squaresofts 900number help line back in the day and that’s how I learned this ever existed. If I recall, the recording told me there is a 1/64 chance of finding pink puffs and then there is a 1/64 chance of finding the pink tail. Insane! In the Japanese version you can find an item called “alarm,” in which you can summon a battle. You have a much higher chance of finding the puffs with this item, but not the tail
Since the Pink Puffs call out "Let's Dance!", it would have been neat if they had tied in some kind of secret related to all of the dancers found throughout the game. For example, if you visited every dancer, you'd have an easier time getting the Pink Tail (similar to visiting all of the pianos in Final Fantasy V). Alternatively, maybe if you did the Row command a few times (the closest thing your party can probably do to dancing in combat), you'd have an easier time getting the tail. It's tempting to try and start a rumor that some secret get-the-pink-tail-more-easily hack like that exists, but given how long this game has been out and people have reverse engineered it to the point where it can be patched in various ways, I'm guessing someone would have discovered such a secret if it actually existed. :)
@@neutraltral8757 back in the day without guides or internet I can’t imagine anyone getting lucky enough to actually find this battle for such rumors to ever start formulating around the lunch table. I know this is somewhat of an Easter egg, but considering the era we were in (no hacking, emulating, etc…) did the developers actually expect anyone to get a pink tail?
@@zalden2565 True. They probably didn't really expect anyone to find it. On the other hand, they made the Gentlemen's Club in Toroia and even the I-read-it-for-the-articles magazine in the Japanese version much more accessible. I wonder what that means? 🤔
EDIT: About the Mysidian legend: The Legend is NOT about Cecil, but about the Big Whale. If you zoom out of the Mysidian continent, you will see that it is shaped like a dragon. It is the Big Whale that is "born from a dragon", hoisting Cecil (the light and the dark), arising "high up in the sky to the still land" ("the people of the earth were still in the process of evolution. Thus they created another moon and kept sleeping", as FuSoYa told Cecil when you first meet him. So their land is in complete stillness). FYI, there is also a hidden stash of gold in the stairs leading to the crystal room on the first floor of the Lunar's Lair. You can easily wipe any enemy formation that include a Grenade by casting Lit-1 on one of them. They will counter with Reaction, blowing up all the enemy party.
@@SantaFeSuperChief1it was the first one I learned too on bass. And not because of Scott Pilgrim. So my friends and I laughed our asses off when we saw the movie. It’s such a memorable bass line that it’s likely the first one a lot of nerds learned so that’s likely why it was a joke in the comic and movie.
I just realized what is special about these games, what puts them above the rest. There is such a ridiculously large amount of monster variety, and the design of each one is immaculate. Like how amazingly beautiful and cool is the pixel art on all of the mons. Each level has several completely new one, not overly relying on reskins. I just tried to play sea of stars and got stuck on this large are where there is only one enemy type and the enemy designs are all uninspiring. It makes me not want to play. But in final fantasy games you want to play just to see what you’ll find next.
I have been playing this game on and off since 1991 on original SNES cart and Wii/WiiU e-shop versions. In the 33 years (seriously has it been that long, and am I that old?) I have NEVER found a pink tail. I have played the pixel remaster versions and finally obtained a pink tail with the help of the alert item.
The chances of finding Pink Puffs and getting a Pink Tail from one are not much better than finding a Baboon in this game and getting a pink tail off of it. 😆
Watching this video bought back some good memories of my friends & I spending hours & days playing Final Fantasy games. I might have to re-play the series once again. Great video, keep up the great work!
Out of all the games I watched you beat, I think this was my favorite set of videos to watch. FF4 will always be one of my absolute favorites. Hopefully we see FF6 one day
Oh man, the best has yet to come! I can't wait to relive all this. I'm tempted to just play through the game myself instead of watching....nah, imma watch!
I played through my cart for the first time in 25 years. Played through it a million times and did not know about the rat tail and the other summons. I also did not know about the grind spot in the Giant. Awesome guide!
Thank you for this series. FF2 was The Golden Goose in the day for SNES. Got it used in 94 from weekly mailed catalog of used games when I was a wee lad. I can’t remember the name of it. It wasn’t Funco is was another homie. Good luck finding a new Final Fantasy 2 box that game was hard to find. Your Dogs are great!
My favorite part of your series is that you touch on deep concepts without spending a huge amount of time on them. For instance, I never heard about the negative floors before watching this, and I think you could have spent hours deep diving it, but it's not germane to the guide. It's just a teaser for people that want to go down that rabbit hole.
This is why I never miss an episode 😊 thanks for all the hard work that went into this series! It must've been very time consuming but it definitely amazed. Keep up the great work!
I absolutely loved this game when I was younger. I think I've played through it at least three times. I have since lost nearly 100% of my vision and can't play classic RPGs like this anymore. But this very detailed, in-depth walkthrough really scratched that itch. It's like I was able to play through a favorite game again. I really appreciate what you're doing and the level of detail you provide. Thanks so much!
Every one of these awesome deep dives you’ve made for a game I always thought I had mastered, some new or obscure tricks or lore is presented to me. I always appreciate your (and your wife’s) enthusiasm and attention to detail with these classics that have shaped me into the gamer I am today! Thanks, I will patiently await the next subject
I'm truly glad that @UCanBeatVideoGames decided to climb Mt. Ordeals and become a Paladin. Before then when he was still Dark Knight UCBVG, he used to review obscure soap opera episodes from the 80s and 90s instead. It was painful to watch. ;)
FF4 is my absolute favorite and always will be. I first played it in middle school when it got released with Chrono Trigger, my fav jRPG, on the PS1. Advance was awesome with its bonuatuuree e 3D mix was great too
I'm sorry, I love your channel and this series but you've been driving me MAD since Cecil became a paladin by not using his MP to heal. None of the spells Cecil has is useful in battle so his MP are basically free healing, letting you conserve Rosa's MP for in-battle healing and, later on, White, aka Holy.
I don't think Rosa is running out of MP lol. Fun intro to skip part 1 as I know these vids need to be long. Ff4 has so many versions too, with psp/3d expanding the most. Pixel remaster is bare bones and even lacks a developer's office, with boost being kinda useless as the default difficulty isn't brutal and there is no customization. 6:50 Levia gets a *tan* at the beach 😂 Good ending synopsis. Made me laugh a couple times.
My first RPG was the original FF on the NES. Sadly, I hadn't discovered "grinding" yet, so I was stonewalled at the Marsh Cave. FF "4" was a game I rented, but I couldn't get past the Lodestone Cave. Going in with weak, non-metal gear didn't occur to me until much later. The Dark Elf was truly my Arch-Enemy back then. It wasn't until FF "6" that I completed a game in this franchise during the era of its release.
My all-time favorite rpg from any platform, thank you for this series, truly amazing. I'm sure you have a list of games you're going to do videos on, but may I suggest The Secret of Mana, my 2nd favorite rpg of the snes platform . The battle sytem is so fun and the story is awesome. Thank you for your videos.
Bro it was my 1st true rpg as well and your ending comments were on point. Such an awesome game thanks for sharing all the secrets I've missed over the years!
Your videos are so incredible. I really enjoy them all. This one was a massive part of my childhood rpg experience. Me and brother spent hundreds of hours mastering this one. His favorite was 8, but I always liked the story of this game more than all the others.
"We were heading towards the robot's crotch so ask yourself what this missile shaped room might be." "As you can see, the robot remains erect, so if we want to take it down, we need to delve deeper." I died and never noticed this. I've beaten the game so many times, too.
Just discovered your channel. The amount of work you put into these videos is insane. Also, don't take it the wrong way, but I've found your videos pull double duty/ If I am having a hard time falling asleep, I put one on. Maybe the nostalgia relaxes me?
I don’t know if it’s something used for a certain version of the game, but a strat I’ve seen speed runners use in Final Fantasy IV: Free Enterprise (the randomizer version of this game) for the Plague fight is to berserk their melee fighters. I think it’s a glitch that essentially makes it to where the berserked players will always get a turn before the death counter reaches zero.
You're a legend! I know it's an insane amount of work but I hope we see more rpgs on your channel. The Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy videos are my favorites.
These videos are my favorite way of re-experiencing these classic games. I really hope you eventually do FF6, Chrono Trigger, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Mana, and more
My favorite video game. I recall watching my cousin Courtney beat it, when we went to visit her in Tennessee. That set my course to loving FF games. Thanks to YCBVG and his dear wife.
This music takes me back to when I was a kid watching my brothers play this game and mystic quest…. I loved them then and I do now still squaresoft has been a huge part of my life
Okay so i went back and found the milestones i was looking for: First Kylo appearance was Ghost and Goblins First Mance appearance was Cobra Triangle Super tiny Mance puppy power!
Thank you for this. One of the most instrumental games in my life. Made me fall in love with RPGs even more. I had played and beat FF and Dragon Warrior but RPGs wasn't my jam until this changed everything.
I basically only ever use Cecil for out of combat healing. His spells are nearly worthless in combat but Rosa's aren't so I run Cecil near dry before I touch Rosa's MP out of combat.
" I have waited oh so loooong... ...please dont tell me baby. I was wrong .... ..dreaming of you every night... .....holding back till the time was right....ive counted the days... " Okay im done singing ...thank you for making my Sunday today good sir... i havent been this excited since the dragon warrior III conclusion episode! ... been re watching all your rpg guides this past weeks! You are continuing to get better and better in show quality every episode and I for one appreciate you taking the time to do it right ... Ive been here since i was subscriber 947....just under 1000...and I'll be here when you break 1 million!
Such a thrilling conclusion. I recently played through FFIV and know what a time commitment it is, and I'm not doing video editing. I appreciate all the work you put into this.
At 22:16 , Rydia's magic is at 210mp, and at 22:53 it's at 185mp. I asked around about the glitch, and it turns out that in the US release of the game, the Sylph cost is free whenever Rydia isn't in the middle party slot. It was free when the glitch was originally pointed out because she was in the 2nd slot from the top, rather than the middle. Very weird stuff. Thanks to the Final Fantasy: Free Enterprise community for helping me understand this (Wylem specifically looked into the code). Also really interesting how these ideas of how to do the glitch got around. I used to hear that you needed a specific party formation at end-game to get the glitch to work before learning how it really works.
This is one of my favorite youtube channels! Can you please do one for Dick Tracy on NES? I had that game as a kid and I always wanted to beat it. I know for sure other channels have walkthroughs and stuff for that game but you're the best channel for walkthroughs!
The final chapter of this game was so epic. I was 12 yrs old at the time and I bet it took me 3 months to get this far. I was stuck on the Magus sisters forever 😂. It was great being able to experience the technical progression of video games firsthand, as you are aware.
While watching you get the summons, I was thinking how sadistic it would be to keep killing and bringing someone back from death over and over again. My wife and I are watching a show where a bad guy on an episode was doing that to his victims. I love the work you do on this channel. You did an outstanding job on this LP! I'm really hoping to see Final Fantasy 6 (3 USA) in the near future. There is no other game that allows you to suplex a freaking train! In all seriousness, it's one of my favorite in the entire series.
Mage 1: Let me die! DX Mage 2: I blame Baldur's Gate 3. : ( Kain: This discomforts even I as well. : | Rosa: Imagine how I feel. >_< Rydia: I don't really need this... Edge: Don't worry; we're just in a game. ; ) Cecil: You know this how?! o_O (elsewhere) Terra: I shouldn't have told him. -_-;
Epic conclusion. This video game will forever be among my top ten for all time list. I have beaten this game more than any other game. As a young teenager, I would play it, beat it, and start all over and do it again. I was dumb though as a kid so I would always for example get destroyed by the giant CPU because I would always kill off the small balls first lol. Lol I would burn through a million life potions as I didnt figure out to not kill them both before tackling the big ball.
Pretty sure the Mysidian legend refers to the Lunar Whale. The westernmost edge of the Mysidian continent looks like a dragon's head, and the ship comes from the "mouth". It rose high in the sky and veiled the moon, bringing a promise of bounty and mercy (its passengers).
I didn't know that trick about the mage. That's really interesting. I didn't even know that life2 would work in that case. I just assumed it would fizzle out.
I got the Imp summon at the very beginning of the game on my first playthrough, back when I was 11 years old in 1992. I had no idea what it was until I accidentally double pressed A on it during the final dungeon.
Zeromus. Casting Meteo or White, counters with Weak. Cast Nuke, he returns the favor. Summon Bahamut, and he counters with Virus on the entire party. Because big bang also inflicts sap, Weak means swoon.
Another really great series. Idk if you have got this request before but I would LOVE to see you do EARTH BOUND. Then I might actually beat that video game lol
I am so looking forward to FF6 and 7 being covered. Those will be massive 10 part long projects, but the way the games awe covered in this channel is so thorough and entertaining. I played through FF6 recently. Amazing game but it does drag towards the end compared to a more compact game like FF4, which I prefer.
IF you do 3/6, I hope you eventually do 5, even though it didn't get released state-side until the PSX release. While 6 is the superior game as far as story is concerned, 5 is almost entirely strategy oriented in that the vast majority of bosses can be defeated by some gimmick of one or more of the jobs, and is easily beatable at low levels, giving you less gameplay to have to cut out for time, even the super bosses can be beat at low levels in a variety of methods, the steal glitch that lets you underflow quantity, mix and bard song being stupid broken, many good ap and gold farms, and is just an all around fun game. Great videos, good job!
When fighting Zeromus if you use an item on him right after he shakes but before he casts Big Bang you will nerf his intelligence which causes Big Bang to do less damage.
Thanks again to your wife. The little details like maps, monsters, etc., on the sides of all your videos are a massive difference-maker in quality. It's very obvious how much care is put into each one. Thanks

This music takes me back to when I was a kid watching my brothers play this game and mystic quest…. I loved them then and I do now still squaresoft has been a huge part of my life
Okay so i went back and found the milestones i was looking for:
First Kylo appearance was Ghost and Goblins
First Mance appearance was Cobra Triangle
Super tiny Mance puppy power!
First reference of punching Nazis dozens of times in the groin was Bionic Commando. 😆
Thank you for this. One of the most instrumental games in my life. Made me fall in love with RPGs even more. I had played and beat FF and Dragon Warrior but RPGs wasn't my jam until this changed everything.
Man, once again I salute the insane work and quality you put in your videos. Awesome as always
love the hard work you put into these vids!
The climactic final battles! I've been excited to see this, but also afraid to see it end.
Ngl that ending cut scene in the final battle when your party is being revived and cured chokes me up a little.
I used to farm arrows from the 'Kary' enemy. it's how to build up the Artimis arrows.
I basically only ever use Cecil for out of combat healing. His spells are nearly worthless in combat but Rosa's aren't so I run Cecil near dry before I touch Rosa's MP out of combat.
What a ride! Thanks for making this video, it really took me back and now I feel like playing FFIV again!
" I have waited oh so loooong...
...please dont tell me baby. I was wrong ....
..dreaming of you every night...
.....holding back till the time was right....ive counted the days... "
Okay im done singing ...thank you for making my Sunday today good sir... i havent been this excited since the dragon warrior III conclusion episode! ... been re watching all your rpg guides this past weeks!
That was an epic journey. Thanks for the fun walkthrough
Yesssss finally. Thank you❤ I love this and final fantasy 6 as the best.
This is one of my favorite youtube channels! Can you please do one for Dick Tracy on NES? I had that game as a kid and I always wanted to beat it. I know for sure other channels have walkthroughs and stuff for that game but you're the best channel for walkthroughs!
41:46 “As you can see, the robot remains erect…” 😂 😂
37:05
It's his duadenum.
Squit: "What the coo's a duodenum?"
Me: _hoping someone in this nostalgic 90's crowd gets this reference_ 😅
You should be really proud of this one man. Outstanding commentary.
I LOVE the commentary. Thank you for your talents!!
What's great about UCBVG is that he shows all of the cheats, but never relies on them to complete the game. A true traditionalist and completionist.
This series was EPIC! Thank you very much.
The final chapter of this game was so epic. I was 12 yrs old at the time and I bet it took me 3 months to get this far. I was stuck on the Magus sisters forever 😂. It was great being able to experience the technical progression of video games firsthand, as you are aware.
I remember first playing this on the PSone as part of Final Fantasy Chronicles and could not beat the final boss until Rydia learned Meteo.
@10:00 the Bi-ble is just a summary of the Tower of Bab-il. Thus the mech battle was left out.
Mage 1: Let me die! DX
Mage 2: I blame Baldur's Gate 3. : (
Kain: This discomforts even I as well. : |
Rosa: Imagine how I feel. >_<
Rydia: I don't really need this...
Edge: Don't worry; we're just in a game. ; )
Cecil: You know this how?! o_O
(elsewhere)
Terra: I shouldn't have told him. -_-;
Epic conclusion.
Also, it's not misogyny. It's actually benevolent sexism when Kain, Edge, and Cecil want Rosa and Rydia to stay behind.
The medieval meets scifi vibes in FF games always reminded me of Anne McCaffrey Dragonrider series!
I hope that he can play final fantasy 6 next. I can't wait to get his opinion on that game!
Cecil then has a cameo appearance in Secret of Evermore as a Merchant.
I should have known you would have a trick up your sleeve for D.Machin! I used to hit him with Meteo.
Finally the moon is within reach! Thank you for sticking with this cult classic, what an epic feat UCBVG ✌🏼
This was my gateway RPG too. I played Secret of Mana before it, but this was my first turn-based one
As a kid I used to think if Breath detected a weakness Zeromus would use it against you.
We finally get to see how to beat the final boss, Zemus!!!
I didn't know that trick about the mage. That's really interesting. I didn't even know that life2 would work in that case. I just assumed it would fizzle out.
My first go at the robot, I made it to the save point without the Excalibur sword. Someone else was surprised I made it that far.
First time I played this, I was blown away
It has been 84 years since the last episode😅🫶
