How could they do it better than anyone else? Whatever rain model will come to iRacing, ACC and other titles already has it for a while now. Dynamic weather and rain forecast too. Drainage as well.
If the guys at iRacing add something, they add the real deal and don't bother with look a like weather effects. Same goes for the track conditions or temperatures, shadows and so on. No other sim is simulating these things. And this rain system shown here is way ahead of any sim aswell.
@@Real28 AMS2 does it to this detail and it's amazing. You can roll back the clock to any date in history and get the real simulated weather conditions as well as get rain on certain parts of the track and not others. I think ACC and AMS2 both simulate pooling and draining also. Nothing new here but good that they are including it
Just got this video recommended by YT. Only thing I have to criticize is, that you said that iRacing will have problems with the graphic, because it is based on an old engine. That is only partially true. That is like saying that the new VW Golf is based on an old car and is not good anymore. Every part of the code has been touched over the years. Things like Day/Night transitions wouldn't be possible, with the engine from the beginning. And my guess is, that the engine is so modular, that they can have "the same engine" forever. It is also still in a very very early development state and graphic glitches are normal and expected. We just never see games at that stage of development. They are working for many years now on that and seemingly small features and fixes have always rain in the back of the mind.
in rF2: It´s way better, i think. You (and the real weather system) can intervent directly during an event. So if you use real weather in endurance, you have to look the forecast during the event - not only before the event. In iRacing: If it says: "Rain after 12 hours in the race - it will rain in 12 hours." And the possibility of rain will not change live.

My opinion is iRacing .... get the ffb sorted, especially now that more people will be getting affordable direct drive bases.. up the hertz.. and lose the 60 hertz. And not have to let thier costumers rely of iRFFB to get a decent feel for the sim...ffs. Get the damage model sorted this has been a long time and the GT3 cars still dont have it yet. And the tyre wheel change animation should of been brought to road tracks by now ..uughhh. And the list goes on and on ...... then, and only tell us about rain. I love iRacing but they do my nut in. BTW... love your videos ... keep on at it fella 👍🏾
i cant use IRFFB, the tiny lag is actually noticable at a certain pace. The current FFB can be communicative enough 99% of the time. But yes, they should definitly update it, i dont want to use IRFFB and IRacing FFB is lack luster for oversteering driving style.
Can’t wait for the iRacing passenger mode 2.0… no but seriously I hope this turns out ok, I’d really love that ACC feel added to iRacing (do I stay on wets/do I stay on slicks etc…). I think it’s gonna make everything a bit more interesting. Only question remains what’s it gonna do to the performance…………

We will never see that. NDM itself is a reason why. They’ve already had to tone it down because latency issues. Sorry to rain on the parade here. But data transfer and prediction would be too heavy and wouldn’t work well with networking. In fact many BeamNG mp mods actually disable collisions to allow for racing to begin with. Sorry… I know it’s fun to wish for… but… dream for other impossible things. Like full rally systems or more cars on track or a fully updated GT class with cars from the same year and not 5 years apart. I am a party pooper I know :(

So in fact, you can look the forecast and you know, that it could or will rain in 10 or 14 hours in the race? So basically, no one can intervent directly during an event? So while this is cool, I don't really think it is a feature that is needed. As a person who only races formula cars we struggle as it is in the dry to have a clean race. This will turn an F3 race into a total safety rating killer. Lastly I feel that as with most software developers they will get about 50% of what they are advertising to work correctly and will spend years on the rest trying to get it sorted. The side effect will be people dropping from races when they see they are wet races as they will want to save their iRating and Safety rating.
Absolutely true. The f3 races are usually carnage. If i get a decent race in I rarely go back for another one. Also safety rating will plummet. These developers rarely care about the new drivers just cater to top tier guys. Nothing new
Or you use GT longer races to test the feature before putting it in shorter races especially open wheelers. End of the day weather is part of racing so it should be included especially given cost of the actual service
Your post is a perfect example of my personal decision "do not touch iRacing even with a 10m stick". I absolutely love wet races, and even more races with changing conditions. People dropping of races because they only care about their ranking: that is a nightmare for me. I admit I do not race public lobbies much. Maybe in R3E but the races are short killage rallycross mayhems mostly, I am more into 1h+ stuff.
I see where you're coming from but, I racing is trying to be as close to real-life as possible and if they can't really do that they won't add it, those games their rain won't be close to the rain in I racing simulation.
Honestly I doubt it will be at all tracks. Ovals are a big one, especially bigger tracks like Kansas, Talladega, and so on, since IRL I'm pretty sure they aren't even allowed to race in the wet, due to the dangerous conditions at such high speeds. Dirt ovals would be horrendous, with mud just bogging cars down, especially in late model races. Dirt road I could see it on though, I've seen a wet race or two at Crandon and Bark River. That being said I don't doubt there would be some people attempt to host a wet Indy 500 so what do I know lol.
Honestly think about how hard it is to actually simulate rain. Weather model. Dynamic tracks. Tires models. Car and engine difference. Crazy no wonder it takes a while. Not a game. Worst part is people want this but 90 percent of them bitch about people not knowing how to drive in dry conditions
Personally it's a cool idea. Doubt my pc will do it justice tho. Its struggling as is. Also I find it amazing to think iracing will b even more slippy. I hope it's easier just to make the dry track grippier. Although again my experience could b my shit pc.

They really should start looking at importing all of Iracing into a new engine. You can really feel the engine straining under the game without the rain.

It's crazy how such a ridiculously expensive simulator is so far behind in some features like these. So glad we finally will be having wet conditions.
That's because they use parametric models for everything, not just look-up tables and cinematic effects.
But no one else is doing it at this detail. They use a lot more static modeling. This level of dynamic rain - to my knowledge - doesn't exist yet.
