I just purchased this bike 4 hours ago. Literally, was already pulled over by law enforcement on my 60 mile trip home!🤣 I traded in my 2023 S1000XR for this Green Machine. 55 years old and realized that I've outgrown the beautiful howl/scream of an inline 4🙄 Decided to take this for a test-ride, and have found my new happy place. The XR at 80mph was buzzy and already starting to scream. The GS is barely loping along and I can see what's in my mirrors. Literally have never driven a boxer before, but the low-end grunt is addictive. Two negatives in my 11/2 hours of seat-time: 1- The quick-shifter on this is horrible compared to the XR on upshifts. Downshifts seem to be acceptable. 2- The safety system cut power on me as I was passing a schmuck camping in the left lane. It 'sensed' I was in a possible collision?? Hopefully I can turn this feature off. And yes, the officer let me off with a warning!!!! After he asked me if this was the 'new model'! 👏 As-spec'd, This was maybe $3k more than the others in the showroom. But the Akropovic exhaust, gold wheels, and green/gold paint scheme made it the belle-of-the-ball.
Man, I love your bike overviews. This GS looks awesome and if I would be up for one this is probably the exact specs I would go for together with the luggage.
The f850gs looked like a hell of a let down. The weight shot up and most of the others like the ktm 890 or tiger 900 seemed like much better choices. This f900 at least looks competitive now.
As I get older... it becomes more appealing. I'd like to see the market buyers average age lol. Lots of tech. Nice colour options. Should come with Akra as standard.
You can opt for ordinary indicators if you want to go off-road. The Trophy has those as standard I believe, but you can mix and match most things. I'm having a test ride soon and am as sure as I can be (as I used to have a 2007 GS) that I will be buying a Trophy with most of the packages, as I want to do a lot of touring on it. For me, this bike is very special in so many ways, that I do think it is worth the money. There is a lever under the seat near the back I think, which alerts the seat height a bit.
Love your bike reviews and test rides, can't wait for Triumph 400 test. Regarding BMW R1300 GS another game changer, step up for one of the most versatile bikes on the world ❤😊 Keep up with great work
No quickshifter as standard without paying £1,610 for a Dynamic pack is cynical option pricing at its finest. I found the tank top plastic hpone holder and some of the other plastics very cheap and flimsy feeling. Wanted to like it but left me feeling it didn't represent value for money.
Great review bob top notch mate! This bike has more electronics than the star ship enterprise ! all we need now is for the bike to hover ! I think I would purchase the basic bike in red white and blue 👊
Got my option 719 now for a month fully specs Akra exhaust and dismounted the Anakee tires and mounted Pilot Road 6 on it. Best tires for this bike in mine opinion. I say it is a race GS. My god it is quick. Now only note is from the factory they filled it up at minimum oil level and you really need to break in the gearbox the first 1.000 km. In The Netherlands mine cost a whopping 33.000,00€.
I would go for the white/blue/red colour combo and some luggage. Maybe heated grips (I live in a warm area, but we do hit freezing temperatures in January). No radars or any other expensive pack. I would be below 20 grand, but not as much as I would like
Everyone talks about the weight BMW shaved from this new model. But they neglect to mention the reduced fuel capacity which is a big part of the weight reduction. When the R1300RT comes out I personally hope they ADD fuel capacity
Only thing missing is the: C.A.R option with an extra two wheels? Also, I wouldn’t fancy cleaning it after ‘off’ riding it…? Great entertainment though and I love your delivery re: options etc…
My head is spinning from all the packages that are available on the GS1300. With all the packages you had listed on your review it would be easy to spend another $7000 on extras. I'm guessing the GS 1300 could cost as much as $35K.;crazy
If the bars suddenly start vibrating, I’d think after many years of riding (52) I’d either got a puncture or a bad balance problem on my front wheel , not for me 🤪, but I like that green colour 😊👍😊
Definitely, all that tech is just too much, beautiful bike and some very cool features but because I want something simple I just bought (I’m in Australia), a brand new VStrom xt650.
Great review Bob, does it have a battery charging port under the handle bars like the 1250 does, just asking cause i plug my radar detector in there on my 1250,????
Excellent walk-around video. Your production values are truly excellent! I have a 1250GS and have ridden the 1300. I was impressed, but wonder if it’s worth waiting for the next generation before shelling out eye-watering cash to upgrade. Principle criticism for me is the distracting complexity of the electronics, especially the hamburger button, coupled with the lack of backlit switches. I look forward to your post-ride video. Thanks!
I don’t like that they’re using the blinkers for your tail/brake light. It would seem that visibility from the rear would be limited and I’d be more worried about getting rear ended. Also too many option package are sending the price through the roof. I think I’m gonna pick up a left over R1250gs
MotoBob, you hands down do the best reviews. The GS1300 appears to be an incredible motorcycle, the technology is over the top. Realistically, I can't imagine what the maintenance and repair costs are going to be ? I think I would lean towards and older GS adventure. BMW's are already expensive to maintain, and we are starting to get into a time where technology is overtaking the essence of motorcycle riding.,
One gulp of beer; the time it takes a non-rider to discuss the aesthetics and functionality of a bike. No wonder the rest of us need support groups . . .
Lovely bike. But it also is a bit excessive - makes me think about the days you could just go and buy a bike and that was it, (some bikes are still that simple, granted); this is a bit death-by-choice though. All these tempting options must make BMW so much money.
Great bike doubtless Bob….BUT…….reading through various GS related forums, it seems that not all insurance companies will cover them and many of those that will are quoting massive premiums……..big problem for BMW Motorrad as this situation is sure to blunt demand
Clearly it’s a better bike than the previous models. However that front end, the radar cover and headlight are hideous, means the end of my GS ownership. Maybe the GSA will look better but it’s also difficult to ignore the price. Is this new GS £10k better than the VStrom (they look very similar). I guess their design decision is working as they want to appeal to younger bikers rather than codgers like me 🤣
This is a technical tour de force. Quite the staggering amount of tech squeezed onto two wheels. But…it also means it’s everything I don’t want in a motorbike. Heavy, tech-dependent, expensive and far too techy. That raising of the bike to put down the centre stand is impressive but it’s also a sign that the bike is too heavy and that the tech-dependency has gone too far. I think I’ll stay on the Tracer 7. Most advanced tech on that one is the ABS and….well, that’s about it. Not that I could afford a GS anyway. Or indeed have use for half of the capability.
Great review Bob. Thank you. As an Aussie, I’m glad you’re behind an Australian invention, by motorbike enthusiasts, in quadlock. As they have been around for a long time now it is great to see them now sell all their gear to the rest of the world. They also make them compatible for the golfers to use (an extra plus). How would you compare this GS to the top spec Tiger 1200 from Triumph? If you had to pick one, with all the options, which would you get and why? As I’m considering both for my next addition (road focused).
@5:29 why are we seeing a motorcycle braking. It’s not the model we are watching a review about. Maybe a close up of a BMW car from the 80’s would be just as effective. Why not show a funduro from the last decade instead ?
Nah, design where I can only see a Suzuki Gladius 650, blinker in the hand guards, smaller gas tank, a FUGLY, FUGLY head light and how much they increased the price for the basic model...2010 was the peak of the GS, that's where they really should have take inspiration. Mind you, when announced in 2004, the 1200GS trimmed 30kg!!! compared to the 1150GS. Guzzi Stelvio it is!
A lot of stuff I would not want to buy .I really do not need my motorcycles to have more tech. For now I will continue riding my 2015 watching review of the new stuff.
This package, that package and another package of course with another must have package. I'm sure those must have packages only cost $5000 plus and will take a couple years to figure out how to use those packages. How distracted will the riders be using those electronics? No thanks.
I really do appreciate your review with the utmost respect but the bike is way too " EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!!". I love riding but not at that price, I have other family needs for 22k
I shouldn't have to pay more for ride modes and better braking modes that are already on the bike but locked behind a paywall. Video games do that crap and now ktm and bmw do too. It's not a material feature it doesn't take more parts it's crap and I already own a KTM adventure bike and still feel dumb about spending money on "ride modes" . It's a pretty bike but just to much stuff.
Mate, I really like your channel but you eventually fell for BMW‘s marketing nonsense. They lied about the weight. My test bike, which did not even feature crash bars and only had a few options, already weighed 257kg. The weight of 237 kg is the weight of a fictional spec which you will never see on the road. I tested the bike intensively and was very disappointed. In many aspects it is worse than the 1250 and and it has transformed into a bike for short people. I will explain it in detail in the upcoming days.

When selecting the Enduro Package Pro, it features the replacement of exposed hand-protector bars with turn indicator stalks.
Thanks for the info! I’ll pin for other to see 📌

That’s the nicest looking gs I’ve seen yet I think.
Goes well to by the sounds of it.
Man, I love your bike overviews.
This GS looks awesome and if I would be up for one this is probably the exact specs I would go for together with the luggage.
I can’t wait to see the new f900gs. An off road bike with all the rider aids cruise control etc 👍🏻 I’ll keep my old 2007 1200gs.
The f850gs looked like a hell of a let down. The weight shot up and most of the others like the ktm 890 or tiger 900 seemed like much better choices. This f900 at least looks competitive now.
This bike is nice, but my sense is that it will make people a lot more appreciative of the previous generation bike.
As I get older... it becomes more appealing. I'd like to see the market buyers average age lol. Lots of tech. Nice colour options. Should come with Akra as standard.
That's my bike, and it's fantastic! I came from the previous model and i'm really impressed with it overall!
More features + more electronics + more computers = more headaches down the road.
But I’ll still wait to see the R1300 GSA.
You can opt for ordinary indicators if you want to go off-road.

Always enjoy your reviews.

What about the gs trophy
@@peterwakoli2050 None have QS as standard - on a £16k premium bike!!

Please reply
Nice review. Perhaps the best and detailed so far ❤❤❤
I love this bike and the top box with a light in it ,very impressed, will by it forsure 👍

Is it more beautiful than the 1250? NO

Dear MotoBob Nice review video in 2024.i liked your review video🎉
I hope the shaft drive is more robust than the old one.
Doubt that. Already officially declared a wearing part by BMW...
Lol
I rode a 1250 GSA and preferred the Pan America. Bikes are supposed to be fun.

Excellent name: you will have a Trauma with the famous bmw reliadisability...
BMW loves those E-Torx lol
And I can see some rust on the Brake Discs...none on my Honda from 2005 🙂

Can’t you swap the passenger pegs with riders? That way the rider gets wider platform pegs.
Whoever designed the Headlight and Radar area ruined it for me. This will be the first GS I will need to pass on
Do one for the upcoming standard XR
Great bike doubtless Bob….BUT…….reading through various GS related forums, it seems that not all insurance companies will cover them and many of those that will are quoting massive premiums……..big problem for BMW Motorrad as this situation is sure to blunt demand
Why did they opt out for the 21” on the front?
I can’t believe the GS still does not have lighted switchgear.
