Aww man. Sad to hear that. Don't forget to do a compression and leak down test before going crazy! I tried being cheap and chased down issues due to a burnt valve and ended up spending way more time and $$$ than I should have.
Easiest swap is a 4A-C with a 3A-C oil pan. You can technically make a 4A-FE and 4A-GE fit with some modifications, but it isn't for the faint of heart
First things first, check the transmission fluid! They have a special procedure to refill them and it's often an overlooked area. Remove fill plug BEFORE draining (I have a video showing a method to refill the trans) Beyond that, look for control arm rust, check all normal wear items. Plan on it needing several gaskets, seals, belts ect. Parts are very cheap on rockauto and it's easy to work on these old cars!

@@kenfeab they are notorious for bad head gaskets. They're easy to change and can be done in only a few hours. There is a great writeup on the tercel4wd forum called something along the lines of "head gasket Petros method" Beyond that, set your timing to 10 degrees instead of 5. The timing was set to 5 for fuel economy and emissions. The engines run better at 10 degrees. Be sure to download the FSM for free at the forum and that has everything/anything you could ever need.

6:30 I prefer using grease. Fill it up, stick in a 3/8" extension and hammer away!

I can't say for certain. I don't know the lengths of rotary engines. But if you could make one work, it would be an amazing build !
