Variable venturi carbs are a super complex carb. But, when working properly, they are superior in fuel metering over traditional carbs. It was a better choice for an emissions controlled road car as they can control the AFRs and emissions with far more accuracy over the lifetime of the vehicle. In EFI terms, the veritable venturi carb is like multi-port fuel injection and the traditional carb is throttle body fuel injection. :-)
That's the exact same Weber Carb I put on my first Subaur! Weber 32/36 DGEV. Good little carb. Really woke up the EA82 in my old Subaru.
