Panzerknacker I wonder, does he use IFHE per chance? Because he seems to do a lot of direct HE damage, but has caused few fires, even relative to the 5% fire chance the Gearing gets. I have been thinking that since the Stealth Fire nerf, that instead of getting AFT for the Gearing, that instead I should get IFHE - because IFHE REALLY helps the Atlanta deal a LOT more damage!

I ´ll stick my chin out here, two horridly poor playing teams, one brilliant player seizing the op to shine. This shows all the cons with knowing and/or understanding the mechanics of ones ship. And IMO that is how we separate the good from the others. Can not recall any player in any game on any server out of a great many thousands who has prevailed in such a superior way. Nicely played, but notice something: the Gearing never come under air attack even once! the ennemy CV never sent any planes against him, he never send any planes to keep him spotted even when he was hammering unpunished against those helpless BB's. If he did, this game would have been VERY different.
yeah exactly that was key,,,and really tho, those dd's are a little too invisible, how can he not be detected while firing? And even when detected they are very hard to hit? Doesn't make much sense. Unless you like to play subs er I mean dd's.

Something weird is going on with those end results. If you look closely, the Yamato survives by 251 HP (see 20:53). You also can see a lack of the ___ destroyed ___ indicator above the minimap. Not really sure why the end screen says he got 5 kills, but he only had 4. Note how the team lineup at 21:05 shows the yamato is still alive. There are 12 people per team, with 2 surviving on the loosing team. That means 10 were killed, but when you add up the kills scored by the winning team, there are 11 kills.
Question: Where is the "spotted" indicator? Stealth fire isn't a thing anymore right? When guns are fired: fire range = spotting range. What happened there? Haven't seen Stealth fire in months, except for island cover obviously.
Watching this back to back with the Minotaur 12 kills. All these fierce battleship to deal with, why worry about a destroyer (or Reynolds Wrap Brit cruiser). Both this and the Minotaur fight were come-from-behind. You need your cruisers and DDs to take care of the enemy's cruisers and DDs. But if you let them all get sunk, you have problems. Also, noting that even some Tier X battleship drivers will sail in straight lines at constant speed with a dangerous destroyer around. You have more health points in one of your secondary turrets than he has in his whole ship. Why should you worry. . .
I actually played in that game and it was by most accounts a SHAM. The aircraft carrier on our team refused to spot or go after the destroyer in this video making us question if they were not buddies setting our team up.
6:45 IMO, speed boost is still FAR better for random battles than Defensive fire is. If he had speed boost, he could have possiby gotten away from detection without taking massive damage. And since the stealth fire nerf, I would guess that Speed Boost is almost a must have, where defeinsive fire is VERY situational in randoms, because even if there are CVs, Gearing is maneuverable enough to dodge drops, especially with speed boost, and Gearing smoke is the best in the game, so even if a CV decides to try to keep you spotted, again, IMO the best thing to do would be to pop smoke, turn on AA, and either scare the planes away - or let them slowly be killed off! With OVER 2 minutes of smoke cover combined with Gearing's rather good base AA, I would imagine that CV planes hovering over a smoked up Gearing for too long will take heavy losses even without Defensive Fire.
No way you'd get away with that now, no more stealth firing. Imo it has made the game much more fair for all ship types. Why can't any of my opponents be this dumb?
@Hi There Its still possible, however only if you're in smoke and other ships are spotting your target. With submarines now coming I don't see how Wargaming can avoid not bringing it back to balance everything.
Everything needs a nerf. CV torp squadrons swoop in at 150+ knots and drop torpedoes that Houdini has trouble getting out of. Battleships will just delete you from 20KM away. Cruisers will just burn you to a cinder, then whack the corpse with torpedoes just to make a point. DDs can shoot you from stealth, and given 5 minutes, might just kill you. If a DD shoots you from stealth, move away. Its not like they are going to kill you on the way out.
berenjervin the enemy cv never even tried to spot the gearing, BBs chasing a dd, BBs sailing in straight lines(17 torp hits...), the Yamato caps and then turns to again chase instead of going behind the island which was right next to him. This game definitely needs some changes but that was just bad play that he capitalized on. Everyone wants to dumb down the game cuz they are struggling instead of learning.
Had the enemy team realised (and rightly so) the threat he posed and acted accordingly, then this result would not have been achieved, and this video wouldn't have been uploaded. Firing from stealth is just another thing that can be countered with proper teamwork. I don't claim to be Chester W. Nimitz or Isoruku Yamamoto but they kinda handed this tally to him.
I swear, DD's and CV's are so OP that it doesn't matter what you do with your BB because if your DD's and CV's aren't playing amazing, you'll lose. I fell in love with the game playing BB's but after all the "pop smoke/hide behind an island and just spam HE until tomorrow" bullshit, I just stopped playing them. Yeah, you can have amazing 60k salvos with a BB but you can also be burnt to a crisp by a freaking banana boat.
If carriers won't cover, cruisers won't screen, and DDs won't scout and snipe... well, this is the result. Buffy nerfy wah-wah will not fix bad play, and teams not playing like one.
4:38 NO FUCKIN WAY! First volley of torpedoes - hits 8 of 10 launched! That alone has to be a record - at least in recent times since IJN Torps were nerfed heavily, especially the 20 km set... I remember the CBT days, when DDs started off with their torpedoes already loaded and ready to launch, back them Shimakazes would launch all 15 towards enemy spawn and often hit like 10+. But ever since those 2 things were nerfed, AND players have become much better, especially at dodging torpedoes - landing 8 of 10 on the first volley is rather insane! Yeah, I am DEFINITELY spec-ing into Torpedo Acceleration for the Gearing! 13.2 km range is far more than enough! And that range at 71 knots is just TOO good to pass up!
Wildboy0001 explain why the Khabavrosk is the best DD in the game with 130mm laserstraight guns a top speed of 48knots and 10km torps AND their HE was buffes from 1600 damage back to pre-nerf 1900 a shell?? Oh it also has no citadel so overpenns galore.
That enemy CV just wanted to farm damage from BBs. Replay proved how much OP stealth for can be. The player exploited game mechanics and his ship's strength to the fullest, which was a good thing.
This is world of warship for you, in real life that dd could fire at the yamato all day long he just could never sink it or even do more than scratch it. But in world of warships forget it, 5'' or 15'' guns, all the same.
This match was a setup the CV on our team was working with the gearing the whole time. He accidentally spotted him earlier in the match with his planes and immediately got his planes away from him. Our team asked the whole game for the CV to spot him and he flat out refused in game chat.

google "enabling world of warships replays" and follow instructions or simply download Aslain's WoWs ModPack (google that too) and enable it from there... afterwards, your replays will be stored in your "..GAME_FOLDER/replays" which you simply open with wows (right click -> open with -> find and select wows)
What troubles me about this replay is that the enemy CV went for all the other ships on the team except you, the gearing, why? At that level CV players know that a gearing on the opposite team poses a huge threat but you was left alone the entire game and only got spotted when you got within enemy ships spotting range. If the enemy CV had engaged you like it would have done in any other battle, this would not have been a 400k+ game.
The good old times when you still could hide and shoot in a smoke with a bb without getting spottet over 2,5 km and where the stealth fireing still existed and as well the old cv system
IJN torps are better, and the Shima can fire 15 of them at once. Shima also has better concealment and speed, as well as better maneuverability and a smaller ship profile (harder to hit). IJN guns have better shell velocity too, so less floaty arcs.
SaltyWaffles, can you imagine the Shima coming up with the win if it was instead of Gearing ? Don't think so. To carry this hard, having really good torps (which gearing has) and really good concealement (which gearing also has) is not enough. You need the OMMMPHH in your guns. Torps won't carry you all the way to victory
As much as I love playing my DDs this shows how broken they are against BB's a BB has more than enough firepower to turn a DD into a reef but the game mechanics are totally broken.
That was truly the best game I ever seen someone have... Now of Course it was mainly done from stealth fire and I have to admit some of it even seemed staged. if I were the enemy CV, I would have dedicated everything to killing that Gearing. Especially when the Gearing was way up north on the map... Damn really? Never had to pop that defensive AA one time:/
@Bring You can earn multiple Krakens a day... You only get the reward a single time. Same for all other heroic and outstanding achievements... Reward once per day, medal can be earned multiple times a day. Hell you can get the 'double strike' medal twice in a single game, but the reward only comes to you once per day. It's more than likely a replay bug.

You can perfectly see on the final stats that he killed 2 Montanas, a Des Moines, a Shimakaze and the Yamato. Weird
definitely weird, considering the "killed" yamato icon is not dark grey, but the white of an undestroyed ship

You can earn multiple Krakens a day... You only get the reward a single time. Same for all other heroic and outstanding achievements... Reward once per day, medal can be earned multiple times a day. Hell you can get the 'double strike' medal twice in a single game, but the reward only comes to you once per day. It's more than likely a replay bug.
