I just wanted to add one thing.
Indian Pipe grows near Beech, and Pine Trees. And yes, after a dry spell, and then some rain, you will also find mushrooms.
    Specifically, Russulaceae mushrooms.
Russula, and Lactarius mushrooms are in the Russulaceae family.
These mushrooms have colored caps, no veil on the stem, the Russula mushrooms are brittle, and the Lactarius mushrooms leak a milky substance from the gills.
The trees push nutrients into the soil, which the mushrooms use for food. The mushrooms also add nutrients and minerals to the soil, which the Indian Pipe uses for food.
Without this triad of plants, the Indian Pipe plant, can not, and will not grow.
That s why it will some years, it will grow back n the same place, and some years, it won't, and why, if you try to transplant it somewhere else, it will not grow.
Without the trees and the mushrooms, and the connection between them, that kind of environment is very difficult, if not impossible, to recreate.
Best to just find them in the woods, and pick them after the seeds are dispersed.

      Thank you for this information.
In the place that I grow, those trees don’t grow very naturally. They only grow if imported and planted, and generally Do not spread without a whole lot of help.
But we do Get Indian pipe growing here.
So that tells me that the nutrients that you get from the vegetation that you named, Probably have some sort of analogous species here that provide those same nutrients.
That could be very valuable to know, particularly if a person is hoping to nurture a few more of them. It’s not always so easy to find them in this neck of the woods.

Because of the alcohol tinctures will last for years and not go bad and you don't have to worry about leaving the plant in the alcohol for too long. Mine stayed in the alcohol for a few months before I strained it and have heard of herbalists leaving it in almost indefinitely and just taking from it as needed though I don't think I would do that. I used the 1/2 ounce bottles so easier to share. Thanks so much for taking it and describing the effects, I have not heard about the pain benefits, just the anti psychotic benefits so I am excited to learn this and now I'm not afraid to try it. Daaaayyuummm! You’ve had a trauma-induced migraine headache for more than TWENTY YEARS??! God,that’s so awful! And nothing, absolutely NOTHING has worked for you? Is there any product that,at least,REDUCES the painful symptoms? I get these bad cluster headaches,OCCASIONALLY,and they last for up to five days, sometimes but, thankfully,it’s not CONSTANT. I was involved in an auto/tractor trailer accident and received injuries to my back so,I’m familiar with chronic pain, overall. Been through a few Neurologists,a Neurosurgeon and several G.P.’s and the meds to go with. Taken the prescribed MS Contin (morphine),used the fentanyl patches (they fall off after first day…garbage) and now on OxyContin (synthetic or semisynthetic heroin) yet,for my headaches, these are not as effective for me as regular ol’ ibuprofen. Gotta take 4-6 but, after some time,I find improvement in my condition. Odd,isn’t it? Anyway, hope you find some relief and may God bless you and your family. I’m kinda interested in trying this Indian Pipe, too. Getting tired of taking all of these pills.

Myles, I’m sorry you’ve got chronic pain, too. Yeah, they’ve tried everything for the migraine, including Botox injections for 3.5 years. Nothing gets rid of it. Fortunately, the baseline is about a 4/10 on the pain scale, so at least I can function most of the time. On days where it spikes to 7 or more, I can’t do anything that requires concentration because I will definitely screw it up. I take either ibuprofen or acetaminophen when it spikes. It helps make it somewhat tolerable anyway. So I’m very intrigued by the Indian pipe. I’ll definitely be trying it out.

I encourage you both to study the bodies lymphatic system and research into the lymphatic drainage massage techniques. One I've stumbled upon and found to be very heopful is deep throat swallowing exercises and specifically how these exercises relates to the drainage and overall function of the cervical lymph nodes. Strong implications will come from the further understanding of them, I can assure you. The brain has a somewhat separate system from the venous lymphatic system that is used for toxin removal from the cranial tissue via its connection to the cerebrospinal fluid that's in the meningeal space. It's system is called the "glymphatic system". This little tidbit of info if you choose to follow it through some independent research should help you both to better understand your underlying issues and how to resolve it. Remember "knowledge is power". GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.
I PRAY THE LORD GUIDE YOU TO SALVATION BOTH FOR THIS LIFE AS WELL AS INTO THE NEXT. I ask the Lord to help us to better love one another. In doing that as we've clearly here, I pray that He helps others to see that making a change for the better starts with us being the change we wanted to see in the world. AMEN! GOD SPEED!

Nice consistency, no flavor, then a few minutes later I tasted pepper, and my throat felt a little numb. I did not swallow it though.

great video - I’ve only just heard about this incredibly interesting non-photosynthetic plant recently!
as an experienced maker and experimenter of botanical and fungal extracts I have just a couple tips to maximize the efficiency of your tincture and minimize loss.
first off - remember that a solvent extract will slightly alter the chemical profile over taking the raw material. some chemicals will be more soluble and some may not dissolve at all. this is why vodka is such a great choice for this…. the mix of ethanol and water ensures a sufficient portion of actives will be extracted. vodka is a remarkably pure, food safe solvent - rum should work still, but vodka is better for having fewer things already present in solution.
the biggest piece of advice I have, though, is to pre-wet the filter material. your tincture is going to absorb into the filter, and if it is already dry that portion of the extract will be forever lost. if you use clean vodka to wet the filter, the extract-rich alcohol will pass through cleanly and ensure the max amount of your tincture ends up in the final product.
I noticed the material seemed to be only loosely broken down, and admittedly I did not watch part 1 so I am not sure if this is intentional.
and lastly, long soaks in the solvent are generally unnecessary. most of what will be dissolved happens within the first few minutes of contact with the solvent. a much more effective method for extracting more out of the raw material is to soak and agitate for a few minutes, filter, then do a second extraction with fresh solvent… at which point you can combine the two extracts.
this will drastically increase the overall yield at the expense of diluting the final tincture. the dilution problem can be minimized by using less overall solvent on each pass, or by allowing the alcohol to reduce by about 50% via evaporating in an open dish over the course of 12-24 hours. this exposes it to air which could cause some loss, but this should be overcome by the increase in yield.

I would like to say that you need to have a better filtration system, perhaps get a tincture press & then filter through unbleached coffee filters. 1:58 They mostly grows where Russula and Lactarius Milkcaps mushrooms grow, because it feeds off of their Mycelium root network. Not tree roots. Mushrooms, however, feed off of tree roots.

I recommend Dr Nicole Apelian ! She put together a FORAGERS GUIDE that is full of pictures and warnings of what not to do, similar plants that are NOT good, etc. 😊 🙏🏼🛡️✝️🕊️

Would've been nice to see you pick it than to start with one already prepared. Good info though.

Watch the first video. You don't see him pick it, but he does process it on camera. He cuts it and puts it in a Mason jar, covers it with 80 proof vodka, then lets it sit for 6 weeks.

@@kassiopiajudkins2722 I understand that part, but what I'd like to see is where exactly does he find it, areas to look at, going to public lands and finding them out there where people who don't have wilderness experience might be lucky enough when walking/hiking to find them.

He leaves a link where you can locate it. He also explains as to where to look in the woods.
