Brilliant! Thanks for clarifying that difference, I would have thought the lock mode was the answer to all slippery situations if I didn't witness this video.
LOCK is too aggressive, it is designed for deep snow etc., not so slippery conditions where smoothness is needed.
Yep the snow mode should lower the wheels rpm, and be gentle with gradually accelerating, especially in ice conditions.
Snow mode makes a real difference. It makes me wonder how we ever got anywhere before clever electronics. Super impressed with the Vitara. Thanks for taking the time to record this.
What do you mean? A manual 4x4 system with locked diffs is infinitely more capable than electronics..
@@CptAngelKGaming Not on snow/ice or other slippery surfaces when handling is needed. Actually diff locks are useless then.
Wow, first time I’m seeing real OBD data while doing a 4x4 traction test. Very good idea!
Thanks, long videos here:

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers great videos explaining how the system works, thank you!!!
My pleasure, thank you 🙂
My face when snow mode was better: 😯😯😯😯
Great Video just you need more places and longer video please.Thanx
Thanks, it is not easy to find snow. The one we had during weekend is already gone...
concise and precies... it is a very informative video. thank you.
I confirm with my sx4 s-cross (the sister of the vitara 2020) that lock mode is not a miraculous mode on snowy roads. It's more like an advanced mode for experienced drivers. I had way more luck with snow mode too.
True. I put some private clip how my scross struggled with snow/ice climb on Lock/ESP off. It was just dumb 4 wheel grind, so barely made it (and mostly thanks to AT) Same hill, similar condition but on Snow/ESP on. Just went up without any problems.
Impressive!
wow!! I would have never thought snow would work better than lock. I wonder how the older model SX4 would fair. Thanks for posting.
It's all up surface on which you are. In deep snow LOCK mode would be much better.
Is the lock Mode on the sx4 a Real lock, so no RPM difference Front to rear? In the New vitara it seems in lock it is just locking faster but never completely. Seems useless to me...
@@F103Pro10S If you mean SX4 classic - I didn't have any oportunity to check the control current. According to some docs - LOCK is from ~70/30 to 50/50, max is 2000 mA. In Vitara max is 2800-3000 mA, so it's more precise but still no mechanical lock. Clutch-pack is active, not permanently locked.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers okay thank you. So absolutely no Real locking function, although it would be possible....
@@F103Pro10S Clutch pack may be completely locked but computer decides about it. However - initial control current for LOCK mode in Vitara is 1120 mA, on slippery surfaces it is enough to keep both axles spinning at the same rpm.
Allgrip rocks
That's probably why you have to put snow mode on before you can use locked mode. I live in Australia so only need snow mode for the beach and trails. Never needed the full lock yet or got stuck. Only six months old but loving this Vitara.
There's higher torque in LOCK mode, that's why on ice it was loosing traction. If you need high torque on sand but with limited wheelspin - use LOCK with ESP OFF.
On the ice ground snow mode is better (especially on starting) because its make gas reaction slow.
Looking to replace my aging 2004 RAV4 2.0vvti 150ps 5sp 4wd with a Vitara when it finally goes. I have been in a lot of snow and ice forest trails with my RAV in Austria and Germany , it has always done very well (never stuck). I guess the Visco coupling on these older RAV 4's was pretty good. I like the switchable 4wd modes on the Suzuki however, more control it would seem.
That generation of Rav4 had more than viscous coupling. It had center differential, so permanent all wheel drive with viscous coupling. The same system is used in Subaru cars with manual transmission.
Woa!
To by ułatwiło odbiór Twoich filmów przez zwykłego Kowalskiego.
Z istotnych to jeszcze Accelerator, czyli poziom wciśnięcia pedału gazu. Speed (front and rear) to prędkości osi przedniej i tylnej.
I have the same car 2022, but the hill to my house is more steep, maybe 35-40 degrees. It's 75 metres long. Does it make sense to use Snow Mode + Manual and drive only in first gear? I heard this advice in some videos. I just wanna teach my mother to climb it the safest way possible because she doesn't have the courage to drive in winter because of this hill.
Difficult question without seeing the hill. Snow mode + M1 makes sense if you want to gain some speed but not loose the power thus momentum. However I never tried that that's just a guess.
Always thought that Lock mode is the best, but after seeing this video I was using Snow mode and on snow/ice roads is the best. Amazing how it catches the grip. What do you think what mode is the best for recovery from deep snow? And do you prefer manual or auto gearbox in deep snow/light offroad situations? I have Vitara 1.6 DDiS AllGrip 2017 manual, and first gear is too long. I burned the clutch to get unstuck from deep snow, not literally but it smelled.
Every mode has its purpose. SNOW mode is very soft, good for slippery surfaces like slush or ice, light snow. But from recovery from deep snow I would go to LOCK cause more torque is available then. When it comes to gearbox - definitely automatic, especially that Suzuki uses classic hydrokinetic for petrol engines. For DDiS there was dual-clutch, I don't know if it is still available. You have to be careful with manual diesel 🙂
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Thanks. LOCK with ESP off or on, for recovery? At this moment, in Croatia there is no automatic at all, it should be in new Vitara. Yes I must be carefull, there is a lot of torque, and in tricky situations long first gear is not helping.
@@biro645 Just LOCK. It allows for a lot of wheelspin and digging, that may be needed. 🙂
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Thanks. Just curious, in AllGrip system, cardan shaft is rotating all the time? What about other awd systems?
@@biro645 Yes, it is rotating all the time. There's only a few systems on the market which are disconnecting it.
So they got the switches wrong? Looks like snow should be called lock!
No, everything is correct. Snow mode is smooth, less torque etc. Lock mode is aggressive in every aspect.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Sorry I meant suzuki had the label wrong not you :) I was kidding as in 'lock' mode you can the front wheels NOT turning while the rear wheels WERE turning, yet in 'snow' mode they both turned at the same time, i.e more like a lock.
@@BenVallack If rear wheels were turning then front wheels were turning to, we can't see the other side of the car 🙂
Nice
💪💪💪✌️
Does it good handling on snow road while you driving what’s like 50/60 km/h ?
Yes, quite predictable and very lazy in sliding.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers when driving on snowy roads is it comparable to the BMW X1 E84?
@@bansheeZgta3 It is very different as it is FWD based while Bmw is RWD based. But if you want to drive through deep snow or mud then Vitara is better choice.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers okay thanks
👍
Is traction control On or Off? That would make a big difference.
It is on. Actually it is not possible to to turn it off, you can turn off only ESP.
Is it different if LOCK is selected when Snow mode is active?
These are two separate modes.
No dobra, fajny film z odczytem kilkunastu parametrów... Ale jak je interpretować, na które patrzeć? Rozwińcie to trochę.
Z istotnych to jeszcze Accelerator, czyli poziom wciśnięcia pedału gazu. Speed (front and rear) to prędkości osi przedniej i tylnej.
Does ever rear diff get overheat?
@@xjackfighter I never overheated it. Vitara awd system is electronically controlled and that's the main difference from classic 4x4.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers thanks for answer, you re doing awesome job with your chanel
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers yes i know its electronic system coupling, i owned few years ago golf 5 1.9 tdi 4 motion its similar system
@@xjackfighter Yes, similar in terms of power shifting (from front to back). All the rest is different :)
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers whats the difference between sx4 and vitara 4x4?
have you tried the lock mode and turned off ESP system
No, I didn't try it then.
Useless driver.
Apparently you don't understand what is this video about.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers yes i do because i owe a 4x4 vitara and know how yo use it. This driver is not aware how it works and to read the road. Its pointless to start from standstill in icy tracks.
@@Coordinator61 By this comment you just proved that you indeed don't understand a thing... That was the point - to test the system by starting from a standstill on ice - and show the difference between LOCK and SNOW modes.
Vitara starts from 1st gear.
