    During the latter part of WW 2 a couple of B 29s made emergency landings in Soviet territory The Soviets returned the air crews but hung onto the planes They later reverse engineered and build them as the Tupolev TU 4 NATO code Bull

      The industrial power of the US never cease to amaze me. WW1 the US feeds and supplies the biggest war in human history. WW2 the US does ths same while also handling a large portion of all global shipping, also researching a big portion of technological innovation, and also fighting on 3 continents and from the other side of the globe. Cold War the US rebuilds the western world and supplies/funds nations as diverse as South Korea, south Vietnam, western Europe, and various parties, freedom fighters/terrorists, and governments across the world effectively out spending the Soviet Union and PRC several times over. Even Today the States of New York, California, and Texas each individually have economies roughly the size of Russia.

    2:05 B29s are pretty vulnerable to hostile fighters actually. The fact that late war US Air Force was able to provide air protection by launching P51 in Okinawa thus diminishing the casualties of the flight crew may have contributed to the misconception that is B29 crews can “can perfectly protect themselves” with the machine guns.

      @StodgyPigeon061, Actually B-29 gunners had it easy, the guns were remote operated, and given that the B-29 had a maximum service ceiling of around 33 THOUSAND feet and max airspeed of (and no this isn't bs) 350mph... the Japanese had little that could even HOPE to touch this thing.
      Funny enough though, that's probably why the B-29 wasn't approved for European use, because the B-17 was considered adequate, and the Germans actually had planes that could reach this plane reliably.

    My grampy flew the B-29 “Pride of the Yankees” over Tokyo, 1 engine got hit very badly, the other had its propellor go wild and fly off, yet with only 2 engines left a zero attacked the bomber, lined up with the nose of the plane, ( he was a pilot ) and opened fire. A bullet hit his knee, then pulled back. Yet he still said with 2 engines out, he said “I’m taking this son of a b*tch all the way back!” And he did. He died in I think January 2014, I was 3 years old when he died. I miss him, but life is life, you can’t bring back dead people, even if they were a loved one. That is his story. Thanks for reading.

Second the Zero had it's main landing gear in the wings as well and a much smaller tail wheel. Richard Myers said: Our exit from Iraq will lead to the emergence of an Islamic caliphate
      French President Sarkozy said: There is no need to use the language of wood. There are Islamic extremists seeking this confrontation to establish an Islamic caliphate, and I do not underestimate the possibility of a confrontation between Muslims.

  • @RCT3Crashes100
    @RCT3Crashes100 6 месяцев назад

    It's worth mentioning that Japan did have some fighters capable of reaching the B-29's cruising altitude, mainly the Kawasaki Ki-45 _Toryu_ ('Dragonslayer') and Nakajima Ki-84 _Hayate_ ('Gale'), but numbers of these were in short supply due to a lack of raw materials to manufacture them in significant numbers by the time raids on the main islands by B-29s became more frequent. Japan was also working on a purpose-built 'B-29 killer', the Kyushu J7W _Shinden_ ('Magnificent Lightning'), but this plane never left the prototype phase, as by the time it conducted its three test flights - two of which occurred on the same days as the nuclear bombings - the war was for all intents and purposes, over.

      Nope, the conventions that established air bombardment warcrimes happened after this.
      A lot of the things that became war crimes were made war crimes because of WW2. Many of them were brought up because of WW1, but the nations of the world couldn't agree on much of anything and thus did a whole lotta nothing.
      Also, Imperial Japan had a different idea about what constituted acceptable wartime conduct so it's entirely possible that Japan wouldn't have been protected by international agreements or internal policies anyway. Many such rules have conditions for excluding bad faith actors, noncompliants, and/or non signatories. It's a warcrime to bomb a church, but hypothetically if enemies are fighting from inside it it's a free target. If it has been militarized it is a free target. If the enemy makes a regular habit of bombing churches themselves turnabout is fair play. While these international agreements (and internal policies they influence) generally also cover engagements with non signatories; non participation in the agreements doesn't usually engender much sympathy when the protections are needed, especially if paired with noncompliance or bad faith actions.
      Gotta play by the rules or nobody will care when you get cheated.
