    • @manny9323
      @manny9323 Год назад +17

      The people who complain about them are plumbers upset that they can’t charge $400 for something that would take 15 minutes with shark bites, or DIYers who say “eh, I don’t need a cutter or deburr tool, I can just use my hacksaw and deburr with the box cutter!” and then have leaks.
      They’re code approved for walls and burial. Do it right and there’s no problem. If soldered pipe never leaked plumbers would only work on new construction sites.

    • @TheMr69roadrunner
      @TheMr69roadrunner 9 месяцев назад +1

      @@manny9323 honestly bro plumbers never debur pipe. I have yet to see it happen in the 4 years of plumbing. I’ve been at 2 different companies too. Sharkbites are convenient for cpvc to copper, when the other methods are threading plastic into copper or brass threads which always leaks eventually yet is considered a permanent fix lmao. You just gotta have finesse is the biggest thing I’ve noticed/learned in the trades. You can do something the proper way the code book says but if you suck and got no finesse you’re still gonna have ugly or leaking joints etc.

      @@manny9323shark bite is not approved for commercial or burial. Idk what state you’re in but in Florida and Texas they are not allowed. Just be a man and learn to soldier. Or pro press. Takes 3 minutes to soldier. Shark bites have barely been around so you have no idea the problem they can have over years of use. Just like poly-b. Takes time to see the problems. Shark bites are a last resort. Only because they go off of the putter diameter of the pipe, meaning they can be used to get off of polybutylene onto copper, cpvc.

Measure the bend in the solder based on the dimension of the pipe so you know you're using enough. My trick is to never solder joint while tourch is on the joint at the same time. So il heat up the fitting i want the capillary action to go to and once the joint starts dripping out flux down the pipe il take the tourch and burn it off and then go back up to fitting with tourch and once you find that sweet spot of temperature il wait one or 2 seconds with no heat on it then itll glide right up that joint with no runs and no leaks even with the 180 degree water. The only time you want to use your SharkBite fitting is if you want to have leaks. You could put it in fot the guy that you really don't like. As is in about 4 years he's going to have a flood do to that PEX fitting, or possibly sooner than that

    Like all your videos this is excellent. One correction is that I would not use the term shark bite as that is now a brand with multiple technologies. Which you are talking about is called push to connect. SharkBite makes push to connect but they also make pex adapters etc. So using SharkBite can be misleading

      @Jetmech-tg4hl I've been thinking. Dangerous, right? Haha. I wonder if the expansion rings or the fittings came from Home Depot? The only time I have ever seen a failure was a home supplied plastic 90 from Home Depot. The 90 was a touch to small, and the fitting leaked. Went back the next day with one of our fittings and fixed it. So I was curious.

    Don't use sharkbite fittings behind wall , they have replaceable rubber o rings that can be cut or perish over time also if you have to remove the fitting and then refit it will mess up with the internal teeth that keeps it in place . The phrase I heard was "any idiot and a sharkbite fitting " not judging anyone 😉

    • @Normal1855

    The solder ran down the pipe because you overheated the pipe and also overfilled the cup. Next time, preheat the pipe and then heat just the fitting and use less solder. Making sure the fitting only has a thin film of flux will also insure the solder will not adhere to the pipe as it runs down
