  • We are building our own house in Norway!
    In 2018 we bought a plot in Oslo and we are now starting the construction of our house. Since we are both architects we have designed everything ourselves.

    A thick layer of clay and silt deposited on old fjord bottom is one of the many legacies of the last ice age in Norway. It is both a curse and a blessing. For you i seem to be an expensive legacy. How much for the drilling? 1:17 bedrock, mountain. usually called "fast fjell" in Norwegian. 2:30 They also did this with the operahouse and the barcode buildings. There is between 30 to 70 meters to solid bedrock there. 5:25 Glasopor or gravel? I hope it was glasopor because it will reduce the weight on the soft clay.

      In our case it was 13 m 😊 I think here they used gravel, and on the next video you will see they will use glasopor (if I am not mistaken)

      @@MonAmieDesserts I was curious about the cost of the drilling. In my municipality a guy had to pay around 200k for two 20 meter deep holes. Good thing it was OK to build there.

    That is incredible that Norway goes to such extreme steps to make sure homes have a solid foundation. In the USA we would just build on the dirt without checking if it would last. There are homes in the area I live that in the winter when it’s raining hard for a long period of time will slid down the hill. I’m looking forward to seeing the competition of your home. Vi ses

      Uff that does not sound good… I am glad they take all of these precautions here, even if it costs a lot of money 😅

    Estou amando os vídeos da construção da casa. Quero aproveitar para agradecer as milhões de dicas que você já deu nos seus vídeos. Me mudarei para Stavanger em janeiro, junto com o meu marido, e já me sinto mais em casa.

    I think the word you are looking for is "piles". In short, they transfer the load to the rock. The tower of Pizza is the most famous example of what could happen to your house if you build over the wrong soil. Any reason you didn't use a raft foundation instead?

    • @MonAmieDesserts
      @MonAmieDesserts  2 года назад

      In our case we needed to have certified engineers defining and drawing what types of foundations we would need 😊 I trust they did the best choice hehe more than that I have no idea 😅

    ¡Felicitaciones! Qué maravilloso proceso el que han estado viviendo. Espero que hayan podido salvar la mayor cantidad de árboles y arbustos frutales. Parabéns!

    Nossa , muito diferente das nossas construções aqui no Brasil, mas, bastante interessante! Usamos também, atualmente, uma pessoa que avalia o solo, mas é um técnico, não necessariamente um geólogo! Parece prático colocar esses tubos pré-prontos! Aqui fazemos os buracos e enchemos de concreto! Amei! 😊

      Aqui também se faz os buracos com betão como estás a dizer, mas no nosso caso como o terreno era tao instável tivemos mesmo de fazer desta forma, que não é tao comum ☺️

    Will you have a basement? In Canada, most homes have a basement.

    • @MonAmieDesserts
      @MonAmieDesserts  2 года назад +2

      We could have one but we chose not to 😊 it would be more expensive 😉

    • @sigmar09
      @sigmar09 2 года назад +1

      In Norway IT was common with basement in older buildings. Today IT is not common with basement. It is better to live on the top of the soil, than under 😉

    • @mycha62
      @mycha62 2 года назад +1

      @@sigmar09 I agree with living above the soil :) In Québec, we still build with basements, unless it’s a summer cottage. Our basements are often used for our electrical panels, hot water tanks, furnace etc… In my house, we also have a spare bedroom, full bathroom and playroom. It has large windows as well, so it isn’t too dark. How many rooms does a typical house have in Norway?
