    There's a great description of the lyrics on Apple Music: "Matt wrote this one, and it's about him going through his divorce and how he reached out to his father in that specific time of need and his father ended up being a big beacon of hope for him. He was the one who helped keep Matt grounded throughout the entire process. He was, for lack of better words, his defender --the one who was there for him, to make sure he was levelheaded and making good choices and not letting anger guide him through an extremely difficult part of his life. We actually kicked around the idea of calling the record Defender for a while, but then we tend to not like title tracks."
    I wouldn't be shocked, though, if the lyrics had something of a dual intent to also reflect the discussion you guys had. Those were my first thoughts when I heard the song!

    Saying a song “slapped” has nothing to do with Davie504. It’s just another word for a “banger”. I only use it sparingly for songs that deserve it, but I’d *definitely* say this song SLAPPED 🤘🏻😁

    • @the_ZAMURAI
      @the_ZAMURAI 4 года назад +5

      Collin Pew “slapped” is definitely not related to Davie504, that phrase has been around for forever in hip hop communities too. Anything that makes you make that good “stank” face because it’s so hard/heavy/catchy can slap

    I just love how ABR's music can be interpreted in both a Christian perspective or a non-Christian perspective. Their music isn't preachy, but the Christian influence is also apparent. I live in their hometown, so I get to see them nearly every year for their Christmas show that they always have here every year. Matt has been known to hang out around town, even showing up to a one of my friend's local band shows one time.

    My Grandpa passed away 5 days before this was released. I spent a significant amount of my life being raised by him. He defended me against my own youthful ignorance. The man taught me a lot about life, but most importantly he showed me how to truly love unconditionally. You see, he wasn't my biological grandfather but he never treated me any different. Between him and my father, I didn't grow up without the love of a father. Coincidentally my father is also not my biological father but he raised me as his. Never once treated me any different. He loves me unconditionally. Now I am in a place where I have children who are not biologically mine, but I do not treat them any different than my biological child. In my years on this planet I have learned that the greatest power there is is the power to love. It overcomes so much. If God loves me in such a way, then I am blessed I suppose. I think of "Bitter End" by Fit For a King when I think about myself and God. I am not bragging but I was lucky enough to be born quite intelligent but I feel as though that aspect of me betrays me in such a way that belief in God is a struggle. I spent years studying science and so on. Science does not disprove God, however it is beneficial to keep a skeptical-ish mind and not take everything just by word. Basically, there is certainty without proof or proof without certainty. I fall into the latter. But...if God is real and He loves me in such a way that I love my children, I want every part of that.

    I saw ABR in 2008. They came on stage, huddled together and prayed on stage. I had never heard of them until that night. Been a fan ever since.

    My absolute favorite band of all time. been listening to them for over 10 years and recently met the whole band for my birthday last year and they're all genuinely nice people, the drummer Matt Greiner is my main influence when it comes to drumming and meeting him was the best day of my life lol

    Awesome new song. I love all the gospel truth in the lyrics. ABR is great. The analysis of the lyrics is really great too. You guys should do something from As I Lay Dying's 2019 album

    Been watching your videos for a while now. I'm not religious at all, but have a lot of friends that are; While growing up and even now everyone thinks I'm religious because I'm polite, well mannered, and have a good moral compass. Really dig your content: Getting different points of view on good music, and that you two can enjoy music that goes against your beliefs + LOVE that you two aren't super preachy. Keep pumping out the videos and I'll keep watching!
    P.s. fingers crossed on your wife's scan!

    If you want to do a video on it then cool but you need to listen to Redemption by August Burns Red. Its one of their older songs but it is my all time favorite. I'm pretty sure Jake wrote the lyrics.

    New subscriber. I'm praying for your family. Your wife is in God's hands. She will have healing, though of course we may not see it here.
    Also, I'd love to see y'all react to and analyze more Wolves at the Gate. They're my absolute favorite band. Especially the song "Alone" from their newest album, Eclipse. I'd like to know your take on the song's meaning, as I'm still a little unsure. "Grave Digger," "Voice in the Violence," and "Dead Man" are also really great picks, from 3 different albums. Heck, they're all incredible!
    Love that y'all are Christian metalheads. And a pastor too! Awesome!
