The first time we see the mother, she has her baby horribly underdressed during winter. Next time we see her, she’s crying while pushing an empty stroller. I think that’s implying the baby died from neglect, and it’s honestly horrifying to think that detail, which is completely removed from the main story and general theme of stalking, is just there. Like the main focus is our character and multiple customers worrying about stalking and assault cases in the area, while in the background a child dies from an idiot parent’s carelessness.

      @LyricaSilvan 10 месяцев назад +304

It’s sad either way, but given the fact that stalkers are often disproportionately attached to the objects of their affection and will do anything for their attention, it would make sense. The stalker witnessed the mother being rude to the girl he’s infatuated with and took it upon himself to “punish” the mother for daring to speak to her that way.

The freaky thing about this game is that these things actually happen. I remember I use to walk to and from school because my dad used the only car to go to work and we didn't have enough money to pay for the bus fare and one day I remember walking to school and this dude just appeared out of nowhere and started following me, I remember feeling scared and uncomfortable but thank goodness one of the schools male counselors was driving by and asked if I was alright, I went up to the window and tried to quietly explain the situation while this guy was watching and staring at me the entire time, the counselor didn't feel comfortable with me getting in his car but agreed to drive right beside me as we made our way to the school. This creep followed me all the way to the school and still didn't leave so once the counselor parked his car he told me to go to class while he handled this dude and he called security. I didn't know what happened after that as I had just headed to class but a few days later my dad got a call from the school saying that a man was claiming to be my uncle and was there to pick me up ( he stated what room I was in and who my teacher was) which my dad immediately shot down saying that he was the only person who would ever come to pick me up and he was currently at work. I didn't understand this back then but the fact that the guy came to the school specifically asking for me and knew my classroom number and teacher's name (which he couldn't have known because I never talked to him and nothing I was carrying like my backpack or my lunchbox had my name written on them) meant that he had been watching and stalking me for those few days I didn't see him. Usually the school didn't call parents for pickup confirmation because well it was a safe district and things like this rarely if ever happened but because that male counselor told the office staff to watch out for anyone asking for specifically me they thought to call my father instead of taking the creeps word for it. Still to this day I'm so grateful for that counselor who looked out for me because I don't know what that guy would have tried the first day I caught him following me if he hadn't noticed my discomfort while driving by.

He said I was the only one who used manners and didn’t scream in his face over the music all night (it wasn’t even a nightclub, just a pub with live music) the music was loud enough to have to raise your voice but not enough to scream at a person. It breaks my heart to see people break down over the smallest, most basic human decency and kindness because they’re so used to abuse and mistreatment. The fact that we kept hearing people say that "oh, no one would wanna stalk you" "who would stalk you" "you're not pretty enough to have a stalker" over and over from different people (senpai, the girl in the very beginning, the girl trio, etc) is crazy. People joke about stuff like that all the time and the game kept it real by having others kind of jokingly/non jokingly put people down for speaking up about strange behaviors. This can keep victims from speaking up about it again, so joke or not, listen to people around you. I just thought it was an interesting factor put into the story and characters, more realistic.

It's really sad when you realize some of the people don't believe others because they've had someone or they themselves make up strange outlandish stories to get attention, so they think that everyone is making up stories. It's "the boy who cried wolf" problem but instead of them thinking it's only that one person who makes up stories they believe everyone is like that (they push that idea onto others even though it's not true) and never believe anyone when they tell them something "out of the norm" is happening to them.
Like I know for sure if said something weird was happening to me I would tell my friends and family and theyd believe me, every word.
If someone doesn't believe you, make sure you are not one of the "boys who cried wolf." First. And then assume this person is just untrusting of people telling them "strange" stories, if you're in this situation keep telling people around you what is happening to you even if they don't believe it you need to keep talking about it out loud.

    • @giraffe6856
      @giraffe6856 Год назад +21

I think majority of people not taking it seriously is because they think it's way too dramatic to be happen for real.
Because often those types of things are more explicitly showed in tv drama or movie, which people can THINK those things happen in real life when they're watching a movie, but once they leave the theater, they don't think that much.
At least most people believe those things will not happen to people around them.
But then when that case is on the news, AFTER there's a serious injury or death happened, THEN people will believe it.
However, even then, news is at the end of day, it's ON TV so people can be somewhat cautious, but to get to the point where fully believing one person's statement is really hard.
Unless that person have met several people who have suffered a lot regarding to those incidents before.
Just like how people don't believe in people with depression.
People know depression is very common, but they don't believe people around them are depressed.
But when that person actually do something that cannot be undone, THEN people will believe.
Before that, people will think you're just being dramatic.

I didn’t understand it but I figured my phone was just being weird so I put it and my earbuds in my pocket and left.

Now, for adults stalkers become far less of an issue, at least in America, because you can use a gun. Unfortunately, you had best buy it now, because you're not allowed a handgun until 21 in most places even if you're stalked at 18, you have to wait a long time for the background check to go through, which can easily be and often has been 2 weeks or more, and many people have been murdered by stalkers who they knew were dangerous because they had to wait so long to get protection. Being friendly and polite is part of your job, but some people need very little to become extremely attached to you. Unfortunately, they don't all act weird or give you a "feeling". Some of them behave perfectly normal. Some of them take years before they finally really look at you. It is a very fine line you walk working customer service. It does make you not want to leave your house, but you just have to accept that some of the really attached ones probably already know where you live, so you might as well go to work.

As soon as I was able to get a job NOT working customer service (at least face-to-face, over the phone is better), I've done everything in my power never to go back to that headspace again. And I used to live above where I worked so I could never escape some of these people. Some of the customers somehow knew I lived in the same building and would regularly comment about it, or try to bother me when I was leaving the apartment not even working a shift. It doesn't bother some people, but if you're already shy or social anxious FUCK the constant avoiding giving any personal information, being forced to interact with the same people everyday who know exactly where to find you and can spend all their free time watching you while you HAVE to have a smile on your face or you'll get fired and can't pay your bills.... and then when you very gently reject them they make it their lifes goal to complain about your service or badger you daily hoping you'll change your mind.
I know it's a small percentage of people (in my experience it was only middle aged men harassing a 18-20 year old) but it made me even more paranoid and socially anxious as a result.
Plenty of other people who showed interest were polite and normal about how they asked but it only contributed to the feeling of being overwhelmed by literally just being perceived and existing in the space of other people. Yeah sure, they might be a nice person NOW but after I reject them are they going to start being awful? You never know until it doesn't even matter.

One of my exes (Who's a good friend of mine now) was stalked, and harassed a few years back. They were on their way home from school, and they felt someone staring and following them. They walked into a crowded area, but unluckily for them, the route from school to their home leads to some shady, sheltered walkthrough.
They got harassed, and went home, never the same again.
Everyone, please be on your guard. There are many people out there who are absolutely fucking sick.
Don't let them get you. We may drown ourselves in internet humor, but we must remind ourselves that reality is a thing, and you could get stalked, kidnapped, sold, enslaved, raped, no matter how small the chances.
If one of your friends seem like they are just using you or are manipulative, please leave them.
If you feel as if somebody is following you, head to a crowded area, or an area of authority immediately and call somebody, preferably a group of people that won't leave your side so easily. If it is a group of one gender, it is much better, as everyone can head to the bathroom together, and nobody will be left alone.
Always have something on you that can seriously injure somebody, and put them out. This is NOT a message that recommends having an item to harm others, but rather a message that tells you to have an item that you can use to defend yourself much better. Whether it is a taser, a heavy object, or your heavy bag. Anything that can protect you, bring it on a daily basis. You will appreciate this one day.
Follow your routine carefully, and remember small little details. If something seems odd, you will know.
And an obvious one. Don't just waltz into suspicious areas. Make sure that, whatever you are doing, is absolutely worth the risk.
If you have to go home and it's late at night, or you have to go through a shady area,
    *Call somebody. Never travel alone.*

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned before (probably has) but I'm gonna explain anyway. The woman with the missing baby was crying because her baby was gone/dead? She was still carrying around the stroller because that was probably her way to cope/deny the reality. My theory is that the stalker murdered the baby in order to scare the woman. Stalkers often believe that they're some sort of angels or saviors, and he probably saw the woman rudely telling us to watch where we're going. That angered him and he decided to "punish" her. This is the sad reality. This game is scary realistic. Especially the part about there not being a happy ending.

There's another possible ending (or well, way to die), that you get when you go lock yourself inside the toilet and flee through the vent. It gets kinda scary because the stalker will come into the café and nearly pound the door down while you open the vent with the screwdriver (truly amazing audio design when that happens). Than when you are outside you can go into your car and try to leave, but the stalker will be on the backseat and creepily crawl towards you and you lose.

The scariest part abt this game is that the parts abt the stalkers, the following, the photos, the creepy notes, and the feeling that someone is always watching you or about to attack you, kidnap you, harass you, or other things that require trigger warnings, is something a lot of people, mostly women but also men, have to go through so often, and it’s such a serious problem. I’m a young teen girl, and the paranoia of jack walking to his car thinking a creepy guy will pop up outta no where and attack him is how i feel walking literally anywhere by myself.

I've worked in multiple cafes, most recently a Starbucks, and holy shit is every reaction Jack has so damn perfect. The instant stress of a mistake, the bone-chilling reaction to seeing a group of people start to walk to the store, the 'just give me your order, I don't want your life story', the constant thought-stream of 'I hate my job, I hate these customers, why am I here'.....it's satisfying to see Jack perfectly encapsulate a real Starbucks employee.
    Editing to add:
    -Who dirtied up my floor?!
-I don't get paid enough for this.
    -Customers' tasteless/creepy jokes.
-The mounting astonishment/anger as the tickets keep printing.
-I have to go to work AGAIN?!
Also, damn amazing game, really displays a natural, everyday horror well.

I totally agree. I worked at a bakery a few months ago, and there was always only one employee working the closing shift from 1pm to 7pm because we just didnt have enough workers. And the bakery was very small too, so it was not too much work for one person. The creepy thing about the closing shift was that we had to leave the back door open which means that someone could have went inside and snuck up on me from behind at any time. Fortunately, that never happened to me, but there certainly were some weird moments where someone would stare at you from outside. But for sure, I dont want to work alone ever again

It's one of the reasons all these horror games don't give you a gun, and why player's biggest complaints regarding horror games that start giving you guns, more ammo, etc. is that it removes most of the horror from the game. In this situation, scary though it is to be stalked, if this woman had a concealed carry pistol and some training in the use of it the only complicated and dangerous part would be the legal fees for a self defense case in court.

Reminds me of the time when a customer was stalking and flirting with my female coworker constantly.
He even asked me (and probably others) when her next shift was, of course we didn't tell him.
My coworker explained to him that she already has a boyfriend. The stalker even told her "Don't worry, he won't find out".
He even admitted to having a girlfriend himself the pathetic cheating bastard.
So I told my coworker to not be subtle and give him a firm "No, I am not interested in you leave me alone".
After she finally had the guts to tell him he even denied being interested in her and that he would never cheat on his gf.
The stalker told my coworker that he must have imagined it.

Working in a coffee shop can be downright terrifying. I once had a couple come through the drive thru at the place I was working. They ordered 2 medium black coffees. They got to the window, I handed them the drinks and took the money. Next thing I know the woman turned into a shrieking banshee and was climbing over her husband to try and grab me through the damn window. I ended up slamming it on her arm because she was being so violent.
