@@arbigodaj6442 This is the second of your comments I've seen replying to comments about people saying that women being stalked is unfortunately a common problem. I understand that men and boys can be attacked and stalked but the theme of these games and these comments is commenting on how, unfortunately, common it is for these sort of things to happen to women who live of their own, this doesn't mean that they are demeaning mens problems or saying that these things can't happen to them (which obviously it can there are many true crime cases where men have been stalked and killed by a woman or another man), they're just saying and highlighting that this is a common problem that women have to face and bringing light to it. Women should be able to complain about things that happen to them without men bringing up that it happens to them too. Both men and women should never have to be stalked and both men and women should be believed when they reveal to others that they may be being stalked but in this video and in these games they are focusing on women. There are plenty of games where men get stalked if you want to watch those instead.

yes continue to politicize something as unrelated as a short story horror game made by an indie developer. Not everything is a representation of how hard it is to be a man or a woman. It's a basic setting for a game, not a hidden critique of society's issues regarding problems that men have or problems that women have. This game is based off of Vtubers which a a big part of video content and creation and the problems within the horror story are related to real-world problems of stalking, parasocial fans that don't know boundaries, etc that can occur to any video creator. Drop this bs and just enjoy watching the video and sean.

for the people who’s confused about the boyfriend pathway and what’s wrong, it’s basically that the boyfriend had paid or idk, basically exchanged so he puts Nina in that horrifying situation, and then he swoops in and “saves” her and so she feels indebted or changes perspective on him so she goes out with him again or she gets attached to him. basically, he got what the wanted.

@@reinlee5542 unfortunately, there are these kinds of people in this world. Catfishers are similar in this tactic, sometimes they make their own "friend's" accounts on multiple phones. And when you're suspicious that they're catfishing you, one of the "friends" that in reality is the catfish, they will gaslight you. One of my old friend groups was like this where this one guy catfished as some influencer with edits on his face, as his model brother, and even as his brother's wife. In reality, he was some asian kid. He managed to gaslight everyone and for those who pointed him out, his gaslit followers were the first to jump to his defense and ended up ostracizing them. And in this game, essentially the boyfriend got people involved in order to gaslight Nina into thinking she was in danger, that her friend was against her, and that she was actually being stalked all in order for her to get back together with him due to feelings of gratitude.

A lot of Chilla's Art other games were featured in this game. The truck at the beginning is from the delivery game, obviously the coffee shop for the closing shift (and senpi and the character you play are behind the counter) the convenience store is played for a bit.
And an extra bit of info. The first game ILoveNina! sent in the stream's chat is the layout of the stalkers apartment where you find Asuka. And all the games after that are references or complete copies of the places she's been. And the games context of taking the woman away from the "evil" police, is the stalkers reference of him saving her and locking her away.

Fun (not so fun) fact: the most stalked occupation isn't celebrity, it's actually news anchors! It's because the person watches them daily, gets both news and light chatter from them, so it becomes a weird attachment. And because it's the news, their real name as a reporter/anchor is easily findable vs a celeb who might have a fake/stage name, PLUS they're often much more local and accessible to run into compared to a proper celebrity. I do wonder if the rise of streaming challenges that top spot, though.

A couple decades ago in the early 90s, I was a housecleaner (chicago suburbs). One of our clients was one of the Chicagoland TV news weatherman. His home was absolutely gorgeous. He was always gone when we came to clean, so we had the key to his home to let ourselves in to do our job and leave.
Housecleaning has a LOT of boundaries and trust between client and cleaner, obviously.
Weatherman fully trusted us and we never did a single thing to make him or his life feel uncomfortable at all.
We never snooped. We never stole a thing. We never did anything with the house key except let ourselves in on cleaning day twice a month.
It only takes a second to destroy trust. I heard this saying long ago and it needs to apply to everyone:
The most important thing a person has is their word. And once that trust is broken, once the person lets the other down, that's it. Reputation is tarnished or even destroyed. Forever. No matter what happens in the future, there will never be 100% trust in that person again. Always a doubt in the mind even if the one who broke whatever trust before NEVER does it again. They may be 100% loyal to their word for the rest of their life, but to all others, the suspicion will always be there.
The most important thing humans have is their word.

@@nostressjustcress-fr1uv I think there was also a theory about the heroine from the Closing Shift having PTSD and thinking the stalker is still out there. Some people theorized her narration at the end didn't make sense since she dropped a brick on a guy's head, that definitely knocked him out but he somehow managed to get away and Hasaku's body was also dragged away where no one can find it. So people also thought she's just living in a perpetual state of fear that she isn't safe and he isn't out there. Either way, it sucks for her.

Yeah I loved that, it’s something more people definitely need to realise. Although I do hugely sympathise. There’s a lot of people out there who literally just want a friend, a connection with someone. So having a person seemingly devoted to entertaining ‘you’ must feel so, alluring. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using them as a placebo, just to know there is a person out there who appreciates you (even if just as a fan/viewer)
But, that’s definitely where it should end. Any kind of co-dependent relationship is extremely unhealthy

To give a brief description, setting boundaries is all about assertiveness. Being assertive is often confused with being aggressive when communicating, when in actuality assertiveness is just communicating in a way that upholds your self-respect, while respecting the other individual. Boundaries should revolve around your values and limitations you have/set for yourself. Like I said, HUGE topic so I suggest doing more reading and research! It only just hit me that the ex sends you a pic of Asuka and the stalker, but in doing so he just revealed that he knows who’s been stalking her, otherwise why would Asuka and a random man talking be weird to him? For all he knew she’s only talking to the guy because he came up to her in the street and harassed her or something, but the ex was the one right there ready to take a photo, ready to make Asuka look bad. In the end Asuka knew the stalker because she saw Nina’s photo earlier. I still feel kinda sus on her tho, since Chillas games tend to have the characters always experience the same outcomes no matter what the players do, so why in the boyfriend ending do we not find out Asuka was kidnapped? Maybe she felt guilty for conspiring with the boyfriend in the end and showed Nina the photo? God this game makes you question everyone lol

Word of advice to anyone who ever runs into a stalking situation: *document* *everything* ! I can’t stress this enough that the more evidence you have to show that this person is stalking you the better case you have. It can help you file restraining orders against the person, and bring up charges against them for trespassing. Also check if there’s personal security companies that are willing to help you. Hopefully this helps.

The way this game has you second guessing every person you interact with, the fear it invokes in you doing even simple everyday tasks, the violation of your home which is supposed to be a safe place-all of this is exactly what real stalking victims experience. Truly chilling.

    • @salamantics
      @salamantics 6 месяцев назад +1

Yes, but the contrivances of the plot kind of annoy me. You can’t order Uber eats but it gives you the option to (to shoehorn in the boyfriend). You can’t ban the obvious stalker in chat, you can’t stop streaming for a few days, you can’t call the police. You can’t confront the stalker with any sort of weapon. It makes Nina seem very reactive instead of proactive in what could/ almost definitely is a life or death situation. Why would Nina continue playing the game? Just because she was threatened to? That’s not how a normal streamer would react to these series of events.
A normal steamer would put 2 and 2 together and assume the threatening message came from the viewer who gave them the game. Meaning that “ilovenina” (obvious stalker name) would get banned for either of 2 reasons. 1. Because the game is clearly a virus or malicious. 2. Because the chatter probably threatened her.

I'm not sure if Sean realised but the girl working behind the counter in the Chilla's Coffee part of the game (20:42) *is* actually the main character in The Closing Shift - the girl with the ponytail & fringe. You can tell it's her bc not only is the guy working behind the counter the same (the asshole Senpai in Closing Shift) but also because when she's being stalked in Closing Shift you can see her face in the picture one of the stalkers left her on the table - seeing her ponytail and fringe.
Because it's the same location and Closing Shift is set during winter it's clear that this is spring or summer maybe half a year before the events of Closing Shift. It's cool details like that which make Chilla's Art games so refined!
Edit: This might be speculation but also I think the man who takes the rubbish early on in the game is the boyfriend since they both have the same face, and in the coffee shop scene the hoodie stalker guy also is eating a matcha cake (28:03), possibly because it was what Nina asked for too. These could be re-used textures or character models though!

@@yb.2992so there’s multiple theory’s about this that are discussed in a later thread. Basically one theory is that MC of the closing shift (is that what it’s called?) has ptsd from being stalked, that when she killed the stalker and went home afterwards he wasn’t actually there but that she was scared and would forever live with that fear of “what if” (makes sense bc the brick would’ve killed him bc of how dense it is and how high it fell from so it could’ve just been her ptsd and anxiety from the events acting up but she was actually safe) another theory is that he didn’t kill her but he did sexually assault her and then the last theory talked ab was how there could’ve been 2 stalkers, the one that lived in the cafe and then the phone guy, and while she killed the cafe guy the phone guy was still alive and in her apartment and he’s the one who got to her. All are very good theories but I personally think it’s the first one (the ptsd one) I feel like it just makes so much more sense especially bc of how chillas games usually go and I feel like it would’ve been accurate to portray ptsd like that.

My family didn't think it was that big of a deal, thinking that it was just cultural differences, until I broke down crying in our hotel. To answer your question, vtubers do tend to fear that, in my experience, but you know OBS well enough to understand why it’s not a thing that could happen. The avatar is displayed by streaming a program that displays it, like adding an extra game display on OBS instead of a camera. The program that accesses the camera to animate the avatar doesn’t display a camera feed, so if somehow the program that displays the avatar fails, the stream just loses that display completely and the character vanishes, leaving just the game display running. So the fear of your camera being seen instead is more a paranoid one than a real danger.

The game is called Parasocial and there's a lot of discussion about parasocial relationships between streamers or other online figures and their viewers and fans--but in the end, [SPOILER]
It ends up being a story about intimate partner violence/domestic abuse? It's not a parasocial relationship, is it? They were together, the ex knew her very well and they had been on speaking terms. The building manager was his mom, but also had her role as the literal building manager. And the other two were kind of roped into the scheme somehow, but neither of them were like, "yeah I watch her online and she's totally my girlfriend and she loves me!"
This isn't a case of overstepping boundaries with a stranger, this is a case of an entitled ex who believes he possesses a woman who no longer wants anything to do with him and therefore he is justified doing whatever it takes to "get her back."
And then there are the comments.
In the comments, there are women like, "Yeah this has happened to me and a bunch of women I know. It's terrifying." And then there are men like, "Ok but why aren't you talking about me? GOD, women, you don't care at all about the shit men go through!" I don't understand why there are so many of those comments and so few that say, "Yeah, this sucks. It's more common for women but it's happened to me too as a man. Sorry you had to go through this too."
It's so important to talk about these experiences so there is more widespread awareness and conversation about how to protect ourselves and one another from this kind of violence.
I wish we could all stop trying to invalidate one another and instead support one another.
Stalking and terrorizing people isn't okay no matter who you are. Bottom line.

I think that before the relationship ended, Nina had voiced concern about this guy that had been sending her weird messages and how his username is quite literally "iLoveNiina". So when they broke up, her ex got into contact with this guy who already had a parasocial relationship with her and would only abuse it further if he had more private information, and that's exactly what her ex did : give him more private information to become the hero and gain her back.
The other two accomplices are related to the ex boyfriend and got wrapped up in it by his manipulation and/or maybe the opportunity to be close to a famous Vtubber.
There's a lot layers to a Chilla's Art game and they are fantastic at stirring up conversations! (Which do not always happen peacefully unfortunately) Again, love your comment and your thoughts on this!

You phrased that so well. Though as a woman I will say the reason why men get heated in the comments and say things like “why do you women always make it about you?!”…because we do. Whenever men try to talk about their experiences, even when it’s phrased politely, more often then not they’re shut down with “but it happens to us more!” That doesn’t change the fact that it also happens to men. And honestly we cannot trust sexual assault statistics because they’re based on reported crimes, and men are far more likely to not report being sexually assaulted than women are. The numbers could be a lot more even than we’re led to believe. Women need to do better as well, and need to stop being so quick to try and shut men up and to let them talk. We’re not only victims of crime. Both sexes need to learn to be able to talk about these things as a unit and stop dividing it up as separate issues.

But it was a parasocial... The hooded guy that gets explicitly described and shown as a parasocial. Just because he wasn't the mastermind doesn't mean it didn't happen.

I mean if they called the game 'Abusive Ex' it would have given away the mastermind pretty damn fast
The stalker is still the biggest threat to Nina as far as the story goes, based on his parasocial obsession with her. It just so happened that her ex was pulling the strings. That's why the twist ending that the boyfriend is actually a bad guy works. The title draws your attention to the stalker fan, not the guy who is secretly working with him

Chilla's Art is one of my favorite horror game develepors, i love all of their games, especailly the ones that are realistic, it's so terrifying because it's something that can actually happen to people, and the sense of "Damn, this kind of stuff actually happens." is what scares me the most.

I think I’ve talked about this before, but as a trans guy/trans masc I experienced ALOT of creepy older men trying to hit on me, flirt with me or follow at the age of 13!! and so to this day I’m afraid (especially now that I’m a content creator) that people are going to find my location or follow me home or even k/i/l/l me, it’s a genuine fear I have. I think it’s nice that Chilla’s Art is able to so perfectly put this experiences into a playable game where people who haven’t gone through it can see what it’s like for the victims.

I love that when Chilla's Art is doing a game, if it's paranormal it can be anything happening to anyone but when it's a realistic one it's like "ah yes, being a woman... scary shit right ?"
It works though, now I don't wanna live my house again :')
