    ABOUT
    Hack Music Theory is the pioneering notation-free method for making great music. Thank you Ray and Kate for featuring Throwing Words. Working with you and Jessie was rewarding in so many ways. Reviewing the theory on the song brings back fond memories of its genesis. I truly appreciate every moment working on this with such a brilliant and inspirational team.

      Aww, it is and was our absolute pleasure LLL! The song goes round and round in my head almost every day. I'll be humming something and then stop to think about what it is...and it usually turns out to be some melody from Throwing Words! We're so excited to send this song baby out into the world very soon :D Hope you are well and having a lovely spring! Kate :)

      That's correct - I'm (even more) impressed! I made it through 12 Music Theory Hacks, ready to dive into Hack Music Theory, Part 1, then Hack Music Theory for Songwriting & Producing - but am *really* looking forward to joining the apprenticeship, probably this summer! I'm a lifelong amatuer musician, eager to bump my game up to 'real' musician lol! I've spent way too many years 'settling' for 'same old' limited musicianship, and you guys have given me the bump - right stuff at the right time - to move ahead!

      Woohoo!! We're pumped to hear that you're taking your musicianship to the next level, that's really exciting and we're thrilled to accompany you on your journey! You're on the right path and we're cheering you on 100%! Have an awesome weekend and talk soon, Kate :)

    So cool! That question about how you see powerchords in a riff was in my mind since I discovered this awesome channel. What about a guitar riff that doubles the base guitar like in a typical Rage Against The Machine song?

    Following on from the 'Call and Response' technique that I mentioned about last week, I've thought of a great one for you. The rhythm is the syllables of the words. Here we go:
    Kate: Would you like a cup of tea?
    Ray: What did you say?
    Kate: I said would you like a cup of tea?
    Ray: Yes, thank you very much!

  • @LouisSerieusement

    This, at a smaller scale of course, what we called "devellopement contrapontique" in french ; one of my favourite techniques ever to write overlapping melodies

    • @HackMusicTheory
      @HackMusicTheory  6 лет назад +1

      Haha Diego, it's great to hear from you!!! Hope you've been having a wonderful 2018 so far :) How's your music making these days?! K

    • @diegooland1261
      @diegooland1261 6 лет назад

      thanks for asking, K! :) My musical muse is exploring modes. Mixolydian still sounds like I can't decide where the melody should land. My cat is a Dorian fan so I've been working on that. But I'm not sure if the mode puts him into a mellow state or he's just falling asleep.

    • @HackMusicTheory
      @HackMusicTheory  6 лет назад

      Haha, that's wonderful Diego, thanks so much for sharing! I can totally picture your cat loving Dorian, it's such a cat mode. I think Mixolydian is more of a dog mode, or perhaps Lydian :) By the way, what's your cat's name? Oh, and how's the hurdy-gurdy playing going?

    • @diegooland1261
      @diegooland1261 6 лет назад

      James, my son picked it. Wow thanks for asking about the gurdy. It's going slow. I live in a apartment and it's kinda hard to practice because it's a little loud. But I'm moving to find a place I can get into it. It's very nice of you to remember and ask, thanks! Of course we're all wanting to know about plans for a minor harmony.

    • @HackMusicTheory
      @HackMusicTheory  6 лет назад

      Hey Diego! Super excited to hear that you'll soon have a space to have fun with the gurdy! As for a minor harmony... this Hack Music Theory revolution and our music are the legacy and creation we'll be leaving behind :) Hope you have a wonderful weekend! Kate

      Hey guys, Jaye from tidewater Virginia; I appreciate your tireless commitment to the theory of great music; I gig and teach a few to help pay the bills & keep up my equipment and writing ventures. I am a vocalist and guitar/bass player (as needed) and I use my keyboards for writing in my small studio; will always be willing to teach inquiring spirits to give back what was given to me but my heart is in writing & performing; I hope to have some new stuff out there as soon as we are finished tweaking (the age old "when is enough...enough?") Love your work, hit me up w/contact info & friend on FBook? - Peace & Love ~ J ~

    • @HackMusicTheory
      @HackMusicTheory  6 лет назад

      Thanks so much for sharing Jaye! We totally understand about finding the balance between teaching, creating and performing. And you're right, when is enough enough? You've probably seen this Da Vinci quote: “Art is never finished, only abandoned.” Ray believes there's a very clear line that songs' cross and once over, they are complete. On that note, if you're interested in getting inside insight on Ray's workflow, you may really enjoy the Apprenticeship course (www.RevolutionHarmony.com/Apprenticeship). As a music teacher, you'll know the theory, but the creative application of it, including the workflow from start to finish, will be interesting. We wish you all the best in your music making, performing and teaching! We're very happy to welcome you to our hack music theory revolution! Have a wonderful week, Jaye :) Kate

      I work mostly with Rap, R&B. I found your videos about drums and they are amazing, even better than my expectation. I love the way you make the videos, short and really practical. Can you make a video that focus on writing bridge melodies?

    • @HackMusicTheory
      @HackMusicTheory  6 лет назад

      Thanks for sharing Vu Hoang Quan Peter! Super happy that you found our drum videos helpful :D
      As for bridge melodies, you can use any of our melody hacks, which you can find in this playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLgYcaQlDpHN5-tLZyRc33FJfmsoU5WBjQ
      Also, if you want more in-depth hacks for writing a bridge section check out our Apprenticeship course. The course consists of 17 hours of unedited video which captures every second of the songwriting process, from blank screen to finished song, while also teaching every step (and theory hack!) along the way. You'll learn how to become what we refer to as a "song-whisperer", and effortlessly make new sections (including a bridge), transition between sections, and complete your songs! You'll also gain access to our Apprentice Network where you can share new music, get feedback, ask questions, and collaborate with fellow apprentices. If this sounds like it may be helpful to you, you can find more the details here: www.RevolutionHarmony.com/Apprenticeship.
      Thanks big time for your interest in Hack Music Theory! Until next time, have a great weekend! Kate :)
