Who is RAY HARMONY?
Ray is an award-winning music lecturer and the author of the critically-acclaimed book series, Hack Music Theory. After decades of teaching ‘popular’ and ‘classical’ music theory, Ray created a unique crossover method for songwriting, which we call Hack Music Theory. We use this method to write all our music. Ray’s songs have even featured Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Kool Keith, and many more.

Who is KATE HARMONY?
Kate is the only person on the planet who's been trained by Ray Harmony to teach his Hack Music Theory method. In 2014, she undertook her formal teacher training at the Revolution Harmony School of Music, and has since become a partner and lead teacher, training up the next generation of Hack Music Theory teachers. Kate has a Grade 8 (the highest grade) Distinction in Popular Music Theory from the London College of Music, and is also a songwriter, recording artist and producer.

Ray you know what kind of a lesson I'd like to see? One about fitting song parts together, like if you use four chords in your chorus, how many chords would you like to have in your verses, how to modulate between parts of the song so that it sounds deliberate, etc.

Because transitioning between different parts of a song can only be taught in the context of a whole song, it's a far more time-consuming topic, and therefore the video would be way too long (analytics show that people don't watch long videos on RUclips). I'm really glad that you are playing the riff at the end of each hack!
Compared to some of your other videos (mostly the older ones), you don't play it and just go to the next hack. This is very helpful for me because I'm a guitarist and I don't imagine notes written in a timescale so I have to hear the changes of the notes to fully understand how it affects the riff.

Cool , I’m starting to get the idea of the syncopation and offbeats now I think. The offbeats where you can syncopate are the ‘and’ in 8th note bars . If you are dealing with 16th notes I’m guessing the same ‘and’ and the ‘a’ could you also use the ‘e’ in One -e- and -a- two -e- counting 16ths . It gets confusing . Although I’m thinking anything but the 1 and 3 are offbeats so can be used to syncopate. 1 belongs kick and 3 is owned by the snare in rock and pop , . I’ve got some drum programming books to read anyway lol 😂

I'm producing plenty of music: Deep Dubstep, Future-Garage and High-Tech Minimal are my favorites. I haven't released anything, yet. But HEY: I'll get only a single chance to make a FIRST IMPRESSION. Thats why I keep on learning until I feel like I can really identify with my sound. I'm very creative and would call me an expert at mixing and so on. But Arranging a whole song is what I struggle with:
Having a matching intro for the first verse which leads into the further parts and so on.
I technically know how to do so, but realizing the theory on ideas that I reaaaaaaally like is the hardest thing to do to me atm. Creativity vs technicality (if that's even a word haha). Maybe u have a tip for that.
I'll keep on practicing everyday until I've reached my goals. Music is my passion. 🌐🔥♥️

If I want to apply this to a polyrythmic riff (let's say 7:4) can I also put the harmony notes in the strong 4/4 beat like u do here or would it sound awkward?

I love your channel. I've just started learning to write songs on my Korg Gadget for Switch software, and having loads of fun. Excellent! May I ask, with regard to #5 Harmony... you add the A above the C (9 steps)... is there theory behind that choice or were you simply going for a high note to catch the ear? Thanks!
