I love the idea, but it disconnects too often for me to be useable it its current beta form. As soon as I get into a flow, it seems to disconnect and I haven't found a reliable way to get it to reconnect. Eventually it will, I just can't reproduce the fix.
I’m using Universal Control to boost the way I use the iPad as a creative ideas tool, somewhere for me to doodle ideas, sketch things out with the pencil and so on. Before UC I was using Sidecar to a limited degree and using it as an extra client on Zoom - then I can use the white board feature much more easily. I haven’t explored all the things that I could potentially do, but I’ve already started relegating my old drawing pads and expensive Adobe software in favour of creating, diagrams, illustrations, and cartoons on the iPad. It certainly changes the dynamics and usability.
Yea! It worked! I’ve been trying to get this to work for the last three or four days. I watched your video, unchecked one box and bingo! Super pleased! It’s already transforming the way I’m using the Mac / iPad. Sidecar was good-ish. This is brilliant! Thank you!

This is one of the nicest things they’ve introduced in a while. I have both an iPad Pro 12.9 and now a Mini 6 using the one external full-size Magic keyboard, Magic Trackpad, and either MX Vertical or MX Anywhere mouses with my M1 MacBook Pro 16. Putting aside two of my three external keyboards opened up my desk. The curser can be misplaced, sometimes, and typing happens on the device where the curser was last clicked, not necessarily where you’ve moved it. So that can lead to starting type where you think the curser is, but finding that it was last ‘clicked’ on another device, and likely not actually typing anything. Thanks for your great instruction! I’ve used Things for years, but never took the time to learn what it could do other than make a list to check off. And Notes and Reminders were useless to me, until lately. You’ve really helped me.
4 days in with a new MacBook and I can’t get mine to work no matter which methods I try. It doesn’t have the Link keyboard option showing on the Mac either. I only get sidecar.
@@movingtomb getting on the new MacOS helped yesterday. It worked. Then today it didn’t. Then it started back. Make sure you’re on both latest releases. The crazy part is apple support got pretty nasty telling me it’s because I was on 15.5 beta and I kept telling them 15.5 IS THE PUBLIC VERSION NOW and they stopped answering.
@@JeremyDeBose Very interesting! I was on the latest Mac update (12.4) but I was on iPad update 15.1 or 15.4 (I can't remember). I called Apple support just after leaving this comment and they told me I needed to be on 15.5 so I installed the update and now it is working for me.
I’ve been having trouble with my universal control. I have an M1 MacMini and an M2 Air. Everything was working fine until the new update. Ever since than I have been having constant problems using this feature. I called in several times and they pretty much told my that I would have to wait until the next update to “see” if the problem was fixed. Not cool…
It’s great, but sometimes I lose my pointer though, I have iPad Pro on the left, a giant screen in center, and my Macbook on the right, my pointer now travels the entire width of my desk haha… but really, it can do amazing things once you learn more about it.
Hi, great video. I want to use the I pad to control my DAW that is installed on the iMac. I followed your video but the DAW doesn't show on the I pad, I only see the screensaver that is on the iMac. Is that even possible without purchasing a program to do that between the 2 devices? All I want to do is when I am in my vocal booth to be able to press play or record on the iPad - for now I have to carry the iMac and the gear into the vocal booth to be able to record which is a lot of work. Maybe I missed something, but I am sure you can help me to set it up 🙂
Hi, it happens for me that I cannot enable universal control. I have all settings you mentioned but the display icon in the top bar doesn't show and only monitor directly connected to my mac are shown. When I add my iPad, it always go directly to sidecar and in display settings there is no keyboard link mode, only main display, extended display or mirror. My mac just got updated to Ventura and it is a MacBook air M1, and My iPad is a Pro M1 too. If you have a tip to my issue, I will appreciate it. Thank you
I tries desconnecting my secondary monitor and it worked. and once I plug the secondary monitor again, it kept working. May be the first time the ipad and the mac shold be the only devices connected.

Still does not work for me and it's quite curious. 16" m1 Pro and m1 iPad Pro. I just replaced my 2018 iPad pro with this m1 Pro. The 2018 iPad Pro worked perfectly with my 16" m1 Pro. The 2018 is now gone and no longer on my Apple ID. However, the new iPad refuses to work :|
@@boozle4163 BECAREFUL! I spent an hour on the phone with Apple. They told me I needed to factory reset my iPad (it's brand new). Now it has an 'unknown error 4041' and will not boot or restore. I'll likely have to send it back.
What will you use Universal Control for?

Um nothing. IPad OS and iCloud are so limiting that they add nothing to the Mac. M1 iPads should run Mac OS and put an end to this nonsense.

Nice to see it working for so many people but mine still wants to go into Sidecar instead of Universal Control.

I tried what he said here and didnt work until i turned on the bluetooth of both my ipad and macbook. Hope this helps🥰

2 years later, Universal control works randomly, when it feels like it, and then doesn’t for no apparent reason.
