    Stan - if Amex keeps going doing this credit/spend/time control path they will alienate "some" of their target market. I actually find it annoying that on a $650 AF card (Brilliant) I have to remember to get $25 restaurant spend/mth on my hotel card. The value proposition was Platinum status & 85k FNC. Their strategy is borderline petty imo. I grow weary by the month. I hope #5 doesn't come true🤨 I am a bit surprise Citi Strata didn't make the prediction list (?). I await with intrigue😀👍🏾

    • @TheCreditFrog
      @TheCreditFrog  8 месяцев назад +5

      I agree Nkosi! Having to spend a $650 AF for a card that has this monthly $25 credit is kind of annoying lol. Luckily, for me and you, the benefits are still good enough to keep the card. And yeah, Amex statement credit burnout is so real!! I honestly don't think Citi knows what they're doing yet so it's hard to make a prediction about them tbh. It'd be nice if they confirmed something, but until then, the Citi Custom Cash is still one of the most solid 5X cards on the market so they have that going for them!

    I highly doubt a semi-monthly credit. It would just unnecessarily complicate things and just make a user confused. They would have to legally call out specific time frames (eg. day 1-15, 15-30). And would even complicate further for the month of February or 31 vs 30 days. Also, the theme with credits is that the cost is shared with partners. Amex is not going to foot the entire bill for the credit...mcdonald's, panda express, chick fil-a would all have to agree to share the cost and that's not going to happen.

    • @TheCreditFrog
      @TheCreditFrog  8 месяцев назад

      Functionally, I think you're right. I didn't think too much into the logistics, but that would certainly overburden their customer service because even these monthly credits take like 1-2 weeks to post (at least for me). Fortunately, they seem to post within a month, but I can imagine many people being ticked off if their semi-monthly credit from the previous two weeks didn't post when it was time to use the credit again. And yeah, not sure if those restaurants would even agree to Amex's terms - definitely another factor to consider.

      Yeah, I agree. The CSP just got refreshed so that's why I think it's more likely the CSR will get one, but once the new WF cards come out, we'll have to see how Chase reacts because I think WF is coming for Chase's customer base!

    if Chase wants to refresh the CSR and increase the AF, i feel like there will also be an increase for the JPM Reserve and a major overhaul for the Sapphire credit card family, because if CSP AF doesn’t get increased there will be a huge gap between them in terms of AF, so imo there has to be a another Sapphire card fits in between

    • @TheCreditFrog
      @TheCreditFrog  8 месяцев назад +1

      That's a really great analysis! I never thought of it that way, but you're definitely right. There would be such a huge gap between the CSP and CSR that they'll either have to raise the AF on the CSP or have a new card to put in-between CSP and CSR. We'll just have to see what happens!

    I think your first prediction of American Express raising annual fees on Cards in 2024 is almost a GUARANTEE given their track record haha, and like you said it's an expectation at this point. Completely agree with you on the Amex Gold & Hilton Business having their AFs raised, but dangg more restricted lounge access & a higher annual fee on the Platty too would suck. Talk about major 🤦🏽‍♂if American Express adds a semi-monthly credit 😂what are they going to do next, add a once every 3 days credit that expires if you don't use it haha. I don't really eat fast food except for Chick Fil A or Chipotle (if you count that) so I definitely wouldn't love that semi monthly food credit haha. Great predictions though Stan!

    Great stuff as always Stan! Here’s my take on your bolder prediction: I feel like semi monthly credits would be too much for even Amex to manage let alone the consumer. People already get screwed by using the credit within the month then it posts too late. That’d be a customer service nightmare. Also trying to make sense of that in relation to a monthly billing cycle would get so confusing. But who knows with Amex and how the credits have been trending as you said. That was a fun one to listen to. Thank you for your great content as always!!!

      FWIW, I use the $20 office supply store credit on the Business Gold and that gets credited within 1 day. So not sure why the other food credits don't post as fast. I guess it will forever be a mystery. 🤷‍♂️

As far as the platinum with the competition they need to make it easier to use hotel credit and flight credit….make it to where we book through any of the cobranded sites of the hotels and get reimbursement. For the travel credit that should be similar to venture x that we can use on any flight related purchase not just for incidentals…i am highly considering going to venture x from my platinum. I mainly got the platinum for the sign up bonus i got the 150k plus $200 back. I hope Amex doesn't come up with semi-monthly credits because you're right, it would be very confusing depending on the month! I think you're on to something with an online grocery subscription credit. It would satisfy the "statement credit" reason to give an annual fee increase, but probably not include a lot of customers because not everyone does online groceries.

    I look forward to the coming changes to the Amex Gold, we will probably hear of them later this year. Do current card members get a pass for a year on the new AF or does it kick in right away? Curious if any Amex Green, Business Green changes will be coming time will tell!

    • @TheCreditFrog
      @TheCreditFrog  7 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, I'm interested in what they will be as well! Every time Amex has made an annual fee increase to their cards, current members are usually notified when the new annual fee change will take place. So it depends. If you had just renewed the card before the change, then technically it's a "pass for a year", but if not, you'll probably get the higher AF at your next renewal period. I think the Green is probably going to stay the same, but the business Green definitely needs an update!

    Fun video Stan! I am one of the minority in this but I don't mind monthly credits. My bottom line is, that any credit card that lets its users offset its annual fees or almost all of it (how hard and annoying it might be) I'm open to applying. So Gold can increase the fee to $1000, I will still keep them as long as I can justify it.
    CSR really needs a refresh. I hope they add a ton more usable credits. I've had it for almost 5 years so I'm going to downgrade mine and reapply in 2024.
    And who knows. Miserable WF might get a client out of me once the transfer partners are announced!!

    • @TheCreditFrog
      @TheCreditFrog  8 месяцев назад

      Hey Kevin! Thanks, man! That's great that you're ok with statement credits. I thought I was too, but then I got 3-4 cards all with statement credits of varying frequencies, and it just got a little overwhelming so I had to scale it back. And that's awesome that you're almost out of that 48-month window for the Sapphire cards. And yes, Wells Fargo is probably targeting the CSP/CSR user base, so it's on them to announce the right transfer partners that will challenge the UR points system!

    My hunch is indeed grocery credit likely with Walmart+ or another company that can recoup the credit after getting you in the door. It’s unexpected and good in these inflated times.

    • @TheCreditFrog

      Interesting! Yeah, I think the grocery credit would be too good since everyone could probably benefit from it. Or they'll do something like a grocery credit, but only at one grocery chain. There's always some fine print so it's harder to get value back. The scary thing is prediction #5 is meant to be joke, but based on where we're at right now, it's completely possible, and not out of the question!

    The last prediction is pretty unlikely. McDonalds and Subway are run much too efficiently to subsidize an amex credit. Panda express is niche. They may go to semi monthly but it wont be those partners. Far more likely would be a streaming media credit to match its other cards (amex) to some B tier streaming media company that is willing to partially fund the credit as they are trying to build subscribers. Wells Fargo will likely only have transfer partners on the pay version of the card and may have other travel benefits but the same multipliers. Another prediction is by the end of next year WF will have a strong trifecta again (it has happened once before) as the pay version will allow point consolidation. Chase will indeed have more lounge access but otherwise will just continue to push its portal. Nice thing about this is we can just look back in a year and see whos (out of everyones) crystal ball is least foggy.
    🙂Thanks again for the midgame level channel. Nice not to just have pure basics. Maybe go into the math of what income levels gift card churning would make sense with Ink cards or the like as no one ever wants to touch advanced topics. In other words quantify the opportunity cost of time beyond mild sustained churn.

    • @TheCreditFrog
      @TheCreditFrog  8 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks! Yeah, the last prediction was more of a joke, but hey, given the trajectory of Amex, would not be surprised if we see a semi-monthly credit. I think you're right that some low-level streaming service may be what could be offered as another statement credit, but we'll see! I'm hoping WF puts transfer partners on their NAF card (it sounded like they were going to do that), but until they do something, I guess it's still kind of in the air. I appreciate your support! Yeah, I try to target mid-game to advanced level strategies.
      Personally, while I'm familiar with those other "advanced" topics you mentioned, which can be very lucrative, I stick to more conventional methods to earn points and rewards.

      Hah! Yeah, I hope they don't go to a semi-monthly credit! Monthly credits are not cool and hard to remembe sometimes, as you pointed out. That would be a little ridiculous, but based on their trajectory, that's where things are headed. Also, the fast food credits were also kind of a joke, but it would be kind of funny if they promoted fast food on the Gold and Equinox on the Platinum creating a repeating health statement credit cycle!
