Level 2 is the same guitar, with the only difference being the addition of a Demeter Fat Control preamp with bypass switch. Finally we have the Level 3 made famous by Dann Huff, featuring a lead/rhythm circuitry with series/parallel push buttons, gold hardware and matching headstock.

The USA model is more resonant and lively.
Generally, we agree, however, sometimes Japanese ones feel more massive. It really depends on the application and is very subtle.
