Tesla doesn’t use the safety score in California, due to privacy laws, so SafetyScore and real time driving habits don’t affect insurance rates for customers in California. You can still see a safety score but it’s used for education purposes.

I found that insurance through Costco has the best value for me. I was able to get much better coverage for half the price of Liberty Mutual. I had Tesla insurance for a few months and I kept getting phantom front collision warnings. Still had a 97 safety score but again through Costco was cheaper with higher coverage amounts.
I always shop around for insurance every cycle. I find the rates are always changing.

I just bought a 2023 model 3 long range and got the Tesla insurance with it. First 2 months, you’ll have a safety score of 90. After the first two months, they’ll go based off your actual safety score. False forward collision warnings will increase your insurance premium by $30 a month. You can’t dispute it. Late night driving is from 10pm-4am. If you’re planning on driving consistently after 10pm, expect your premium to go up another $30. I’m still keeping it for now since it’s still half the price as other insurance companies

Pros: easy to submit claim through the app, Tesla insurance pays the repair shop right away so there's no delays on their end, Cons: Customer Service: it's hard to get anyone on the line and they aren't very helpful. It's also taken about a year to get back my deductible, In CA Tesla Insurance does not use the scoring system to lower your payments - it's still in testing phase. Costs $200 monthly.

That alone is worth paying $10-$20 more a month for me personally. But after looking around I was able to get cheaper insurance and not have to deal with that crap so it was a total win. Wow, $3100 / year from AAA for a single Model Y? I have Tesla Insurance with a 2023 Model Y, 2024 Model Y and an older Lexus sedan for $3,330 / year ($275/mo.). Geico was actually pretty close in price, about $25 more per month when we only had the 2023 MY and Lexus sedan (old). I might get another quote from Geico to see with another Model Y added to the garage. The problem with Geico for California is it takes them about 2 months to write the policy for CA drivers so you need to have your other insurance while the policy is being written but I have used them before and there customer service was always top notch, knowledgeable and helpful. The concern I had with Geico were their approved service centers at the time (over a year ago) and with Tesla Insurance, I could get into a Tesla service center for the OEM parts. Thanks.

Tesla Insurance starts out cheap and then keeps going up in price. The safety score 2 came out today and it is going to keep making drivers get worse scores and thus charging more. I am constantly dinged for aggressive turning due to living at the bottom of a hill on a street with a ton of traffic, so you can't take it slow. Also I did a u-turn the other day with no one around and the collision alert went off for a couple of minutes, that is another ding. The forward collision can go off a lot at low speeds due to a car going slower even if you have space. The late night driving is just ridiculous as there is less traffic.

I have Wawanesa (Los Angeles). Their rates are competitive and customer service has been outstanding. I recently filed a claim for my rear hatch (idiotically backed into my garage door before it fully opened) and the process has been nothing short of amazing - very smooth and no issues. The body shop is Tesla certified and because of the amount of Teslas they do, they already have some common body parts and panels pre-ordered and in stock. So it took only a week to repair (hatch replaced and painted).

Better suspension (LR only), small interior changes, AMD chip for the computer. Also with the $7500 tax credit its the same if not cheaper to buy new. Also the interest rate youd get on a used auto loan would be outragous these days

They both are quoting me the same price of about $100 a month and i know from Geico when i was in an accident they immediately sorted everything out nothing happened to my car. I just had a 5 minute over the phone conversation with a rep from Geico and that was it so I have no complaints about Geico they been amazing. Currently going through a minor accident with my model 3. I have USAA. One of the trends I've noticed with a lot of insurance companies including USAA is that a lot of them don't have "Tesla certified" body shops in their approved vendor list. So pretty much every shop you take it to has to submit a supplemental claim with your insurance to get the full repairs covered. All this just ends up being more of a nuisance/inconvenience over anything.

Will change back to Liberty Mutual after 2year when allowed to go back. When the delivery of new Model 3 Perf. quote from State Farm is close to $3k, right now with Tesla insurance is around $180

  • @robinisathakur

I went for Tesla insurance…mainly because I didn’t have a choice. The absolute cheapest I could find was $500 per month from Progressive. I’ve been driving an Audi Q5 for the last two years for a small small fraction of that. I’ve never had a crash of any kind and am 43, living in Dallas.
Tesla insurance sucks because it’s always watching what you’re doing and if you get a handful of front collision warnings or hard braking warnings (often due to other drivers behaviour) this adds literally hundreds per month to your next premium, but like I say, I don’t have a choice.
