- Has there ever been so many colors on a baseball field as in this clip from the 1977 All-Star game? The scene opens with the broadcasters commenting on the Pirates' yellow "canary" uniform that Dave Parker wore during batting practice. However, the black and yellow he's wearing as he lines a single to untucked-in Richie Zisk in left is outrageous enough. When Parker scores from first base on a Griffey (Sr.) double, it is a near psychadelic scene with Palmer's orange, Luzinski's blue, Fisk's red and Parker's black and yellow.
Other things to note: Carl Yastrzemski playing centerfield with a bad ankle (he'd never start in pain in an All-Star game these days), Tommy Lasorda way, way down the line coaching Parker home from third and the old-style abbreviations for the cities in the yellow batting average graphic (Cinti?).

Love the 1970s MLB uniforms! So much color and character!
Are you kidding me?!? Dave Parker scored from first on a george foster single to the gap?! Amazing wheels for a big guy
Yep. He was my favorite player as a kid.
Parker one of the best players ever to wear a uniform. HOF , true fans, we can do it , let call the Hall, show Parker support.
Nah he was a cokehead
Not a fan
Not a HOFer.
Great Ball player and greatest RF throw I ever saw
If one didn't know any better, you would think this was a Friday night beer league softball game with the uniforms they are wearing. I love this era in baseball. So many stars and fortunate to see most of the NL guys play at Riverfront.
I loved those Twins uniforms. Very sharp! But I almost PUKED when they went to that hideous pinstripe design in 1987.
Teams started wearing colored uniforms in the late 60's to play up the advent of color television.
I miss baseball ....
2 of my favorites 80's players on 1st. Carew and Parker. 29 and 39
Im pretty sure this is the year that Foster belted 52 hrs that season. Hell, he had 29 at the all star break in July. Thats strong.
11Stucat yes it was.
Yes, 1977.
I think he had 149 RBI's
Watching Dave Parker & George Foster was my favorite player.....wow I loved baseball as a kid.
Dave Parker had Hall of Fame talent when healthy, like Willie Mays type talent. That's something he should be proud of and that can never be taken away. I think everyone knows this, which is also something he should be proud of.
All those wild colors and multiple uniform and the best three that have stood the rest of time
The NY Yankees pinstripes
The Detroit Tigers home uniforms
The LA Dodgers basically the same as there were in Brooklyn.
I loved the sleeveless uni's like the old Reds and Pirates too
I agree with everything you said.
Connie Bauer...I had to do a"double-take"myself,it looked as if Dave Parker was wearing a San Diego Padres batting helmut over a Pittsburgh Pirates outfit.
Palmer got ripped in every All Star game he pitched
His first all star appearance at 26. He really could move …was top ten on MVP ballots many times, and won it in 78. That should count towards the HOF too.
Parker was a stud.
Find the 1979 all star tape.
Dave Parker belongs in the Hall of Fame
Teams started switching from gray road and white home uniforms to colored uniforms in the late 60's as a result of the advent of color television. TV shows like Batman played this up as well.
love the color uniforms
Dave Parker is wearing a San Diego Padres helmet while batting!
The Cobra forgot his pirates batting helmet
Big fella scored from first on a single. Repeat big fella
All Star games were my favorites to see all the uniforms in one place as a kid...they always had the brightest whites by some banned dry cleaning agent lol
My nostalgia meter just blew up!
Ahhh back when uniforms were bad ass and really felt like a teams representation.
Wow. Dave Parker could fly! And hit!
He could also throw. All around talent. Kind of Bobby Bonds- type player, though I believe his BA was much better.
First all star game I remember, I came home from church and couldn’t believe my team the Orioles (Palmer) were wearing their home orange at Yankee Stadium. Now the all stars all wear white and gray, wish they would wear their alternate jerseys and juice up the now boring midsummer classic.
I love the umpires' chest protectors from that era, or did they plan on someone driving a bus at them? 😂
Parker scored on a single by George Foster, not Griffey Sr.
Was Parker wearing a Padres batting helmet?
"must have been"
Yes he was
And white shoes.
I wish the Pirate helmet then was black with that uniform.
Dave Parker was a big time HS football RB in Cincinnati until he tore his knee ligaments. He switched to baseball only after the injury.
Parker, Luzinki and Foster, just to name 3 in this game, all hitting well above .300 and for plenty of power. And Parker scoring from 1st on a single that Giancarlo Stanton probably would have jogged from 1st to 2nd on for fear of pulling a muscle for the 37th time in his career. The game was so great then compared to the garbage style and philosophy of today’s game.
Think the pirates had like 5 different uniforms, crazy.

put Parker in the hall
When I was 18, I put a French drain in Jim Palmer's yard. He was an interesting character. His wife was cool as shit.
All of those uniforms in the 70's were the way they should be now. Tight fitting and long sturup socks....now a days the players look like gang bangers !!!!! Some probably are......
Ah, the year I watched it from a hospital bed. (broken finger from catching a baseball with bare hand.)
I miss that era of baseball 1970's
Real under paid talent.
Another observation on these old clips...look at the crowd they all wear the 'everyday' cloths of people...hardly a 'team gear' to be found. It really was different.
You can tell this was a replay, since there was no Yes Network back then...
I loved the eye-popping unis back then. I loved wearing them in Little League even more. Now the uniforms all look too similar, unexciting and drab.
Yes sir. You are correct: 52 HR’s. 149 RBI’s.
And the Chicago White Sox.....I'm glad they're black and white, cause their colors from the past was too much!
All star game 1977 Yankee stadium ...
This is Great !
I miss those days! This new MLB just sucks. I turned it off 22 years ago.
Parker was wearing a padres batting helmet
WOW MAN Dave Parker is a big dude but Carlton Fisk was not too off compared to their size
Parker is twice the size of Carew lol
You like dat huh?
And wearing a San Diego Padre batting helmet...
What year was this? 79?
‘77
CINTI
Loved baseball in this era. Now it’s become unwatchable. Pitchers all on pitch counts. Analytics instead of managerial instinct. It’s like watching accountants manage. I wonder how many of todays players would even have gotten to the majors with the talent we saw from the late 60s through the early 90s.
Plate umpire was out of position. Third base line extended is the proper position. The balloon chest protector was ridiculous
George Foster was Giant. Why did the Giants trade Foster?
