  • I had an opportunity to fish neap tides in an area I usually fish bigger tides to see how the fish would react and feed and found a noticeable difference. changing lures helped a lot to secure bigger fish and stay away from smaller bycatch.

    Dear Professor,
    As you mentioned keeping the fish for burgers , and as I am a Chef , I just couldn’t pass the opportunity to suggest you the following.
    When doing a “Tartare” , (like steak Tartare ) , try doing a mix with fish and all condiments, including a good amount of lemon/lime juice with good seasoning of salt/pepper.
    Shaping your burger thicker than normal and only cooking both sides lightly , when biting , you’ll go from crispy and cooked , to raw but marinated mixture : delicious….
    Thank you for another epic lesson and for the adventure.
    Chris

    Great vid as usual mate! Some tasty fillets there. When those fish rise that high off the bottom on neap tides I reckon you could waft a paddle tail plastic down through them a bit more slowly and they’d annihilate it! That’s how we fish for snapper down here in South East Queensland and they smash it a fair way up off the bottom. Keep up the great vids

    Good morning, Fellas. Do you find the 130 squidtrex hooks to be too small? Would you recommend a 2/0 or 3/0 BKK slow-pitch hooks for the 130 squidtrex?

      the only thing ive done which seems to work is hook the assist hooks into the tentacles. it helps with hook up and doesn't foul up as much

    Hey bud,
    What size tides do you get there, do you have to pick your days or hold the boat in reverse on the bigger tides or just fish the slack water?

    • @PelagicPursuit89
      @PelagicPursuit89  6 месяцев назад

      our big tides are around 6m of run. ill always drift regardless of tides but mainly fish north on bigger tides and south on smaller tides and its worked really well for me

    • @troyfuller35
      @troyfuller35 6 месяцев назад

  • @Matthew-oq1yn
    @Matthew-oq1yn 6 месяцев назад

    Hey matty, I'm interested in how you position the contender and slow down drifts etc. (Would make a great vid)😉
    At about 11.45 it looks like you have the outboards on, are they slowing the drift at all or just in neutral with no thrust? Do you always leave them on like this or situation dependent and how do you decide?

    • @PelagicPursuit89
      @PelagicPursuit89  6 месяцев назад +1

      I usually turn the motors to make sure I sail with the current. that way I can usually sort out a bit of shade and the boat will drift a little slower. on that particular occasion I knocked the boat in reverse to slightly adjust the drift. ill do a part on it next trip.

    • @Matthew-oq1yn
      @Matthew-oq1yn 6 месяцев назад

      Thanks mate, awesome, its the bit Im struggling with in a 560 bonny, which being a smaller boat probably gets pushed faster. I just can't seem to slow the drift enough irrespective of tides depth wind and jigs to 300g! Have had difficulty staying on mark long enough keeping outboard on as well, maybe our currents in cooktown move faster. Have started playing with the electric more to help but can be a pain deploying constantly and controlling for this style of fishing. Looking at spankers and drift socks but look like they'd be a PITA too

    Hey Matt, I know you tie a loop knot on your solid ring but have you ever had issues with the knot breaking at the bottom of the loop as a result of abrasion when fighting a fish? I lost 2 jigs while fighting kings fast jigging on the weekend and both broke in the same spot at the bottom of the loop. Had fresh leader and fresh knots tied. I tie my loop knots with as smaller loop as I can. Any thoughts or advice?

    • @PelagicPursuit89
      @PelagicPursuit89  6 месяцев назад +1

      only time ive had an issue is with certain leader (black magic) it become brittle and will break on those sharper solid rings. try using a mono instead of fluro and you'll have better strength. this is why I use nomad leader because its a fluro coated mono. abrasive resistant but also great knot strength

    • @turneroundaus101
      @turneroundaus101 6 месяцев назад
