I've had this player for about 5 years now and I love it. It plays DVDs, Blu Rays, 4K Blu Rays, and even .mkv files from a flash drive! The Oppo 203, Magnetar UDP800, and Panasonic UB9000 are just way too expensive. The only flaw with this player is it doesn't play Dolby Atmos, DTS-X, or any other HD audio from a .mkv file. Just standard audio from .mkv files. I'm quite sure the Magnetar and the Oppo does but not worth the upgrade at the price they cost.

I’ve had my 820 for about a year and it’s been flawless. I like that it decides Dolby vision automatically as opposed to the Sony.
Also Sony doesn’t carrry HDR10+ as it’s a Samsung based technology.

I have this player wish I got it earlier to start collecting 4k Blu rays. Where some good places to get more 4k movies since stores not selling them like that.

Very nice. I have the exact same Sony you have.😁 I am going to upgrade probably to the 9000. Maybe. I believe the picture quality is the same but the 9000 is built like a tank. It has a better power suply, capacitors, parts and board. You pay for it though. I don't know I may decide to save money and buy the one you have too. I have heard good things about it 👍😎😎

Great 4K UHD players the Panasonic UB-9000 and the UB820.
    I own a UB-9000. It's *flawless*
You would say the UB-9000 is 'Air Force One'
and the UB820 is one of the 'F-16' escort jets. Excellent units .........

This might be little older now but it's what we got and we like it. I like this over the 9000 because I applied a Metal" wrap peel and stick covered the whole unit minus the very front display. Looks custom and when you see and touch it looks Faux Brushed Aluminum. When bored you can apply any other wrap to apply to your decor. you can really do that with the 9000 edges and bottoms and overall shape. This is like a very neutral shape and easy to wrap. Wish they made this with less plastic but it's good to apply a sticker.
Wood grain probably going to apply some peel and stick bamboo make it look sexy.
Thanks for the video. Your 2nd setup is now ready for some BDs

    Funny 😂
I just bought mine on Amazon a couple of days ago to replace my UB420.
The 420 has been acting up and not playing some Blu-ray, but it definitely plays all 4k without any issues.
I'm expecting this 820 to be a good step up 👍

      You mean on the 420?
Because in that case when I did the most recent firmware that's when the 420 started the issues.
I had the 420 for over 3 years and not sure how old it was since there is not built date on it, so it served it purpose. I'm hoping to get more miles out of the 820 because of my mountain of physical media. 🤞

My wife bought me mine a couple of Christmases ago for $200CAD and I had a $50 off coupon. So after sales tax came to $169.50CAD. It was open box item but there was no way it was unless they took a heat gun to the original tape because it looked factory taped and the player was also in the micro-bubble wrap and still had all the peelable plastic on the front. Anyways do not forget to play the movie and activate your settings because it won't activate a lot of the settings you picked.

The 9000 and 820 are identical in playback except the 9000 has dac. That's why online reviews when the both were released years ago said only get the 9000 if you listen to alot of music thru your system. If you just watch movies it's best to get the 820 because everything else inside is identical. I've had the 820 over 4 yrs and it's the best ever and for the price it's better to get it instead of the 9000 since I wasn't gonna be listening to music. Also you can use your 9000 remote for your 820 😁😁😁😁😁 I purchased a 9000 remote from ebay and have been using it since I first bought the 820

UB820 Best bang 4 your buck. Just don't use it for streaming services way way too slow. Use a Roku or Nvidia shield or other streaming box instead. UB9000 to expensive for not much diff other than aesthetics. Same guys basically same power to decode 4k info. Btw putting your 4k disc on top of the sub/speaker is asking for trouble (demagnetize data on disc making it useless).
