Pretty sure it did work. I believe it gives you that message until you create a new file and set the time/date, which has been reset to Jan 1, 2000.
I've replaced a lot of batteries and this usually doesn't happen. Usually the dry battery message is gone after the new battery is in place. I didn't create a new file after erasing the old one. Perhaps I can go back and try again later.
@@GamesfromtheGrave I think it has to do with whether or not a player played and saved with the bad battery or started a new save. The clock’s time is not part of the save file but I think it asks you to set it “system wide” (despite one file) when starting a game.
Looking like there will probably be a part 2 to this video some day.

Possibly. I could try harvesting parts from a Japanese version of the game.
