That remote control move was ridiculous!!!
Only in Chi-Town!
I toook my head off
That remote control was everything!
I love The Rink skaters they are always willing to assist the young kids. The adults & teens jam on the rink. When my grandson visits in the summer he wants to go to The Rink. JB moves makes a non-skater like me dance & shout!
Black people culture is so BEAUTIFUL
ivan lara wow thanks for that 💕💕
Thanks bruh 😁☺️
I know thank you.. i love my people
@thenubianerd3
Ty! Ive met people who say its weird :/
Wanted to comment this as well, they make something beautiful out of everything.
Skate Key 1980's Bronx, N.Y. here.
My wife (may she RIP) was an excellent skater, and I tried keeping up. Now my knees aren't what they used to be but I won't give up skating. Love this video and how styles are developed.
Im in The chicago area now and when i was little we'd pratice at the white roller rinks then did our routine smoothly at the rink. But the new school be doing extra. Now back to the practice floor. Lol
Chicago love
My rink was on the Wisconsin/Illinois border, late 80's. Mostly white folks, shuffle skating, on speed-skates. I'm half black & white and I had speed-skates too.
I had my own style influenced by shuffle skate, some dude that was doing like figure skating and my own flow, but
one day some dude showed up and was JB skating and that was it! I already had a habit of doing everything at high speed, but then it was JB smooth moves at high speed.
That split at the end was crazzzyyyy
We need more of these videos of JB history.
I've been skating for over 30 years. All types of skates styles. But I have never ever seen the skate move at the end lmao 👏👏👏👏👏
When I was like 14 in the late 80's some dude (at least in his 60's by now) showed up at my rink skating JB and that influence caught fire with me instantly. I already had people coming up to me telling me I was the best skater at our rink and in the next town... but that JB consumed my imagination and flow instantly. It was like something long lost was found, it all just fit and made sense and made my imagination go on forever with more possibilities. I was doing crazy stuff!
I never knew there was a name or history to those moves. My rink was about 1.5 hours north of Chicago, and that's my little story of how I was influenced by the JB moves.
Josh!!! That “remote control” was niiiice! Seeing in on N Y Times is BIG! Congratulations Chicago fam!
That was like movie Wanted, but instead of curving the bullet, he curved the skate.
i wanna go to chicago just to visit the skating rink
Excellent video, im trying to learn to skate old school JB, and these examples are what I needed. Thanks, and keep up the good work!
THE GLENWOOD ROLLER RINK LETS GOOOO!!!
He taught me in the past! Nice guy!!
I’ve been to JB sessions at both Glenwood and the Rink. Loved both floors. I’m a Midwest country boy from about 3 hours from Chicago and the crowds and sense of community were awesome. Great vibes and people to skate with. Most fun skating I have ever had in my life and I enjoy mixing the music as well. Dope style.
I was skating here a few months ago, going back this sunday
This. This is incredible
Wow I did not know this I always admire the moves I love it.
That remote control was sick!!.I wanna see some else pull that off it was just so move.😊
To me when i watch the skaters move the way they do so smooth. I think they have a balance on this life thing being able to groove like that. Im learning. I loooooooooooooove!!!!!
Wonderful!
Ill watch a million times to catch the end....🙆his skate CAME BACK...🤯 i aint never seent dat one, WOW👍👏
I remember you. I'm in a wheelchair temporarily. I will skate again in Jesus Name!

VERY Cool
I learned to skate at the rink , Madison early 77
Wow this is actually a style? Here i thought i was just feeling it while i skate. Is really james brown. But in from long beach so time to get funky. #whererythm is life and life is rythm
Yes. It's a style if you've never experienced it, I can guarantee you aren't doing the same thing. You have to learn this, you don't wake up just doing it one day.
@@onealr true Ole Skool JB 4Life
My boy polo and Calvin 😭
the video is too short... if there's a longer version please let me know, thanks
Love y'all's video
Super Nice 😍

Yo what's the best precision wheels for skates . Are we still doing rubber or? Let me know,I want to get me some wheels.

What about the song before that? The meaty one...
Could do with a track listing... Anyone?
At 2 minutes... Pretty please
I love this series but the shortness of the videos means so much context is left out. So many whys and hows.
That's "The Rink" on 87th Street-- Chicago. Some people call their style of skating The Crazy Legs. Watch the legs fly or stay toward the middle where it is safe. Lol. Check out Atlanta, Ohio/Cleveland Columbus Cincinnati style, Metro Detroit, St. Louis, & NYC styles of skating. Spring & Summer road trips - Lots of fun!!
the Crazy Legs is a move not a style
I wanna go to chicago and skate with them

That's at Glenwood
That's at Glenwood?
whats the track two mins in
I don’t mean to be disrespectful by any means, but I’ve seen folks skating this style since the late 80’s, in JB’s hometown of Augusta GA…
This is very good 👍 Okay 🆗 Cool 🆒 I like JB style skating 🤔😎🤗👏⭐✨👍👌👉🏆🛼🛼✔️✅ The New 🆕 York times.
All this is about showing off, flipping a skate, doing splits to the ground and "look at me, I'm skating silly"... Back in the 70's & 80's it was all about dancing and moving the the groovin' not clowning around like a fool just to get attention... We didn't care who was looking and of course, we had the best music ever created for dancing, not the crap R&B or Rap they dish out today and it was all about having a good time. The world has changed since that Rap garbage crapped all over our precious music... And anyone can say whatever they want but, no one today had the FUN we had in those days and that's some NO ONE can take away!!
I'm sorry you never learned to JB. It's actually fun to learn different styles.
That was then for you. So stay there.
Some of those people must have skated in ATL and roll bounce
Is that an Anita Baker track at the end? What’s the name of that song?
jamar1209 sometimes you win A BANGER BABY U ON POINT
Hey maaan, I'm from D.C. and I could never figure out why whenever I traveled outside of D.C/MD/VA, all the skating rinks were wack and played this wack azz music. They would just play whatever was on the radio or be out there shuffle skating. Till this day I still only find 3 places that skate alike.. D.C, Chicago and Atlanta.. Must be because I've always said that D.C and The Chi were sister cities and Atlanta is like our suburb to the south.
U are misinformed. There are plenty other areas that have a black skate culture. Nc, missouri, fla, texas, california, ny, etc
@@ertfgghhhh just because its a black skate culture doesn't mean it's a "JB style skate" culture.. It's a very particular style.. Not just skating to whatever hip hop or r&b.. You may be right, I just haven't seen it.. and Ive skated in NY, NJ, Cali and NC.. it was wack..
@@doctorbrown2313 i understand
Bat Man😂😂😂🥰🥰🥰🫶🏾✌🏾
Yup! Black Chicagoans are the best skaters in the country.
spainyo u need to RUclips Detroit. Dc and Cali and new york before you make that assessment much love tho
@@anthonytaylor7928 no. Chicago won 10+ adrenaline awards for it's JB style. Adrenaline awards are given to winners of national skate competitions judged by skaters from all over the country. No other style has been as dominate as JB skating....in those competitions. So what are you saying. We the best man! Stop it.
@@onealrmy fault don't know what the adrenaline awards are but still it's just so many styles I don't mean no disrespect and they're are awesome skaters in Chicago it's just an opinion I admire all of the styles but I don't think Chicago is the best tho thanks for ur reply tho
@@anthonytaylor7928 within JB there's a LOT of variation. This video doesn't have real dope JB skating in it. Any please don't judge by what you see in the internet it in no way is representative of JB skating. It's a very watered down version of JB skating.
@@onealr yes he's been hating the whole comment thread sap sucka lost 😂😂😂😂🤦🏿♂️
Most respectfully, this video is misleading. I, and many Black adult skaters (in Wichita, KS; Kansas City, MO, St. Louis, MO; etc.) were doing these so-called J.B. Style "moves" as early as the mid-1960s. Giving something a "name" do not necessarily make it original. 'Nuff said.
Oh really. Then why isn't JB skating from MO? It's from Chicago because that's where it was invented. Y'all can't even JB correctly in MO I've seen it it's sad.
Im in ATL but im from the south side l miss my 70s 80s JB skating nobody can touch chi-Town skating
Rod McKinney ur wrong bruh RUclips Detroit.dc Baltimore area. Los Angeles all are better than chi jb skaters much love tho
Anthony Taylor I live in SoCal now but, I'm a Chicago skater, Calvin just showing you the basics, that's Glenwood on a empty night, what you seeing ain't nothing, all the real good skaters not there. Greenwood would be so packed you couldn't have a All Skate.
Allen much love bruh im.a Toledo Ohio Detroit mich style skater it's all good in the last few years i.ve skated in memphis Atlanta and D.C. different styles i.m tryin to make it to Toronto soon it's all good I know they gets down in chicago
Anthony Taylor If you go to 87th St on Sat 12am to 4am the Rink will be packed then you'll see some real skating, I haven't been back to the rink in 10years, they calling it JB skating now, we didn't have a name for it we just did it, you keep Rolling Champ!😎👊👊
Anthony Taylor OH!, you need some Video of Toronto so we can see what are Brothers are doing out there!👊🏿👊🏿👊🏿
Love black people. Love black culture. Wouldn't want to be anything else. xo
I didn’t know James Brown influenced skating😂 this man is a goat

This is amazing !!!!!
That's dope yes at the end incredibly
I remember when I first starting seeing JB style becoming popular at my local skate rink around 2005 or 2006, I didn't know that it came from chicago or what the names of any of these moves were called but it was really fun anyways. Skate knowledge had really only just begun to spread on the net at the time, we just learned by seeing new people come into the rink and seeing them skate. Even as a advanced skater it's funny none of us ever watched a single online skate tutorial those times are really dead and gone lol. Seeing people skating and seeing new things makes me wish I could go back and skate again.
Same thing. You saw them in person every week, skating behind them. They see them online , rewinding, and learning the step.
Outstanding!
Respect
BLACK PEOPLE UNITED AND EVERYONE GETTING DOWN - JAMES BROWN WOULD DEFINITELY APPRECIATE - CHI- TOWN GETTING DOWN...SPEAKING ALL THE WAY FROM THE NYC...SPREADING LOVE THE BROOKLYN WAY - ALL DAY
I just realized sum of these move are from roll bounce
Roll bounce used their moves. We been doing this since the 70s.
Nice groove Bruh
Amazing 🤩
Clark and Lawrence Ave.
That's really cool, love to find the rink and see this in person.
It's in Chicago!
